Actually Earl Grey rooibos is my new favorite tea.

Also, how is Dartmoor? Never been /out/ in the South before. I'll be starting from Belstone in the North and walking around at whatever pace I like all day just looking at neat stuff before finding an nice place to put my tarp up for the night.

Why is oxfordshire so shit for being /out/. Wish I lived somewhere more interesting.

Earl grey! About to walk the Pennine way, just waiting for my oooknest to arrive. Then going to hop over to sweden to walk the kungsleden before attempting the cape wrath route up in scotland! Might walk the west highland way before it though as I've never been /out/ in Scotland.

Head over to the feather river near Oroville CA for the flood gold. It's one of the richest deposits of gold and with the new floods uncovering bedrock there will be so much new gold.

Found these two half pennies earlier today. The field I detect in has only really turned up junk so far so these were a nice rarity. Found a penny from the 30s before.

Can't wait until I can buy a better coil desu

I haven't gone (serious) fishing in over a year. Took my gf once, but just sat there and fixed bird nests every 10 minutes and then another 5 minutes telling her she doesn't need to cast so damn hard. It wasn't fun.
>>
>>952186
When teaching someone to avoid birds nest it's pretty much as simple as telling them not to reel in without making sure the line is tight. Typically it just happens right after casting since that's when the line is loose.

Taught my friend this in just a few fishing trips. Only problem is that his reel+rod combo was store-bought with the line already on it, and Im thinking about re-spooling it now since the line is all twisted up. Fresh line wont do that. Probably been on the spool for years and the line just automatically twist.

I just bought a surf fishing rod last weekend. I live right by Dockweiler State Beach in Playa Del Rey CA.

It seems fun and challenging... Anybody surf fish and have any tips? I know fuck all about reading a beach.

Camping in the rain sucks! All my clothes are wet, I go into the sleeping bag wet. Pretty soon my book is waterlogged too even though I carry it in a waterproof bag. Even the tent floor is a little soaking. At night the water pools in le shit tarp and douses my setup periodically as well. No campfires either.

How do you guys make this livable? Over the duration of a 3+ day hike. How do I "get" rainstorm tier camping?

welcome to the club moherfucker, it SUCKS.

You could
A) get a better tent

B) pitch a better tarp in front of your tent

C) Sham-wows work wonders
https://www.amazon.com/Shamwow-made-in-Germany-Shamwows/dp/B00NUHHN5A

D) Don't go camping when it predicts rain and/or stop being a bitch.

First of all you need fuel. Cheetos and moutain dew are tons of calories per weight.

Next you need a huge knife. I would recomend a bear gryls, but some people take kabars or even katanas. Pretty much just take the largest you can carry.

After that you need shelter and warmth. The weekend warriors take heavy ass tents and sleeping bags, but me? I take a treated woolen cloak since it can do both.

After that, everything else is gravy. Like chairs, or pots and pans to make more elaborate meals

I had a SWB/Samba incident while diving alone. Pretty fucking spooky.
>Coolest interaction with aquatic animals?
I was hole hunting on the west coast and dove into a rock tunnel. When I was about halfway through I saw a big harbor seal coming down the other direction. We literally swam into each other and made eye contact for a few seconds before both turning and swimming back out the way we came. Scared the shit out of me, but was still awesome.

I just recently bought an OMER Cayman HF Camu in 75cm and am super stoked to get out and try it. What gun do you guys use?

Anybody in Connecticut or in New England who would like to get together, to work out, practice self defense, share ideas on growing food, fermenting and baking trading food. Learning wilderness survival skills, herbal medicine making, and foraging also getting involved in volunteering for our local communities. Involving ourselves in our local militias. Going on monthly or weekly outings testing our survival skills. Anyone interested ?

You should list things differently:
Water containment (2l per day of autonomy)
Water purification
Food ready to be eaten
Food necessitating cooking
Cook utensils
Clothes against cold
Clothes against wet
Shelter against rain/snow
Shelter against insects
Shelter against wind
All of the above don't have a condensation problem.
Orientation devices
Other information devices
A mean to protect it all

If you can check all of the above, your bag is fine.

Okay so I want a down sleeping bag, i would like a 4 season down bag, prefereably not too heavy, cost isn't a huge issue, but value for money is. Also need a 2-3 season one to replace my current 3 season synthetic.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Does it have to be 4 season? Unless your seasons are all pretty similar,.it's going to be pretty bulky and hot for the summer, and probably still not warm enough for winter. If cost is no issue then I'd get dedicated winter and summer bags, and then a cool weather bag. I would never want to be stuck with a winter bag in the summer and vice versa, regardless of the quality. Pic related is my 40 degree marmot summer bag.
>>
>>935936
i don know what climate you are in (and i could be wrong) but where i live 4 season sleeping bag sounds like "breathable waterproof" you are asking too much from one product.

its either gunna leave you cold in the winter or hot in the summer.

as far as recs go ive been using the same REI sleeping bag for close to a decade. i think its called the Igneo now. 3 season and really good water protection... i know that because i slept a little too close to the ocean once and my friend was woken up by the tide before i was.

Straight up /out/some. Niceone. I was on that path and accidentally myself into a career, wife, puppy and house. Kinda regret it and think about what you're doing often.
When you visit countryside Japan you'll be blown away. The outer islands and mountains are beautiful. City Japan is awful and filthy, but the countryside is amazing.
Oneday, I plan to do as you. Godspeed anon.
>>
>>932862
Wouldn't call cities in Japan filthy, very clean compared to other cities. Just incredibly dense with people, can be stressful if your not used to it.
But the giant dense cities are what allows such a small but highly populated country to still have great outdoor areas.

I'm going to do WWOOF when I get there. I saw this guy's vlog about his trip there, and got goose bumps when he panned out over the misty mountains.

Imagine waking up to that every day.
