How do you narrow down what project car to buy?
I'm having a really tough time deciding between about 8 different models of cars. I want to buy something that is in decent shape but has room for improvement, budget is $1500. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I can provide a list if that helps.

I'm looking to buy a sporty AWD car in the $10,000 CAD price range. The Audi A4 Quattro and the Subaru WRX seem to be my only options.
Is the A4 1.8T/2.0T even sporty? All I know is that Audi and Subaru are some of the only companies with permanent AWD systems.

For $10k you're better off buying the subaru. At $10k you're getting a shitty a4 that is going to need about $5k in repairs over the next 2 years, if you're lucky. For the same price for the subaru, you'll get a reliable car that you won't have to pour much money into, if any, so long as it has been taken care of.

Hey /o/,
I know next to nothing about cars, but I need some help and I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask here. Sorry in advanced if I make an ass of myself.
I drive a 2001 Mercury Sable GS and to be honest it has a shit ton of problems. I'm just looking to solve one. When it idles, it chugs real hard, like moving the car back and forth hard. More in D and R than in P or N but to some degree in all gears. It hasn't stalled on me yet, because I switch it into N and rev it up to 1,5 RPMs when I'm idling. I've read it might be the IAC valve, but I also read you can't clean or adjust it, and I'm not in a position to buy a part if I don't know I need it. Also, if it matters, the check engine light came on five or so days before this started happening. So are there any alternative possibilities, or ways I can more accurately diagnose the issue? pls /o/ I'm an ignorant fool who needs your help

I think that generation sable / taurus has got to be the shittiest car in the world. I know so many people who have had them, and they've all been total pieces of shit. I inherited one when my grandmother died, and it ended up shitting the transmission out. Luckily it did this so quickly I hadn't sold my old car yet, which easily had twice as many miles and lasted another two years.

I'm trying to clarify a P0420 code, hoping that it's one of the o2 sensors, and I'd like to replace only what has failed. On my cheap HF scanner, I see another set of characters, almost like superscript, to the right of the code. It reads $7E8.
I haven't found anything searching for $ obd code and won't share the numerous other retarded searches. Does this $7E8 further diagnose the P0420 code? Does it help, in any way?
