So I just swapped this engine in and on first start the belt for the alt burned up because the alternator seized. It would have been so easy to replace it when it was out of the car and now it's fucking me.
Pic related: The bottom bolt that holds the alternator to the bracket is stuck. The nut is loose but the bolt won't move.
I heated the bracket, didn't work.
Any solutions?
Just kms?

good sized breaker bar with socket, spray the living fuck out of it with whatever penetrating fluid you have. apply pressure back and forward
If you have space you might need to give it a love tap with a hammer/mallet or something
>>15829474
Don't have space, plus it's late night here.
What do you mean about the breaker bar? The nut is loose and not a problem... shit is just stuck.
>>15829486
wait I'm an idiot
It would appear its hammer time
I'm interested in an ES350 but I heard some people say it's a posh Camry. Is that even a bad thing? I've driven Toyota's my entire existence. I found a 2010 ES for $15,000 so I'm trying to hop on as soon as possible
Also, do you guys do online pre-approvals through the dealer website? I want this process to be speedy.
Any Lexus ES driver is welcome for their input

sucking on your own cock is good for health and longevity. Good on you friend
>>15829421
A Lexus pretty much is just a basic Toyota with a nice interior and some good seats. They feel pretty lifeless to drive which is why they're compared to Camry's. That being said though, they're comfortable and reliable but you won't feel a sense of joy when thinking about driving it.
how do i make this shit look good? everything runs fine, just think it looks like shit

The time for the GT86 isn't accurate. A manual GT86 goes from 0-60mph in about 6 seconds.
Still kinda slow, but not THAT slow.
My baby just got towed. There's nothing I can do until the morning because the police said I might try to steal it back if they gave me the address. I 100% would. If anyone else has had this happen tell me it gets better I am livid right now. Pic related
do you not read street signs when you park in unknown places?
>camery got towed
oh no!
get fucked son and pay the $250 fee
Would you drive a CVT car if it was running off of a turbine engine?
Yes
but t has to be 2-door
and preferably pop up headlights
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIFaxA3dj3Y
>>15828972
that video shows my reasoning for why a CVT could be applied perfectly to a turbine. you'd simply get the engine to nominal operating speed, then adjust gearing with the gas pedal. might need a clutch to disconnect the driveline because engine braking will not happen
no
only electric
So /o/ as a general level of modification at what point do you stop working on the engine and look at other areas of improvement like making the car lighter or breaks or suspension? Like things that aren't exactly power gainers but performance improvers. I'd like to hear from everyone cuz it's a really interesting topic because a Mustang may have a different stopping point than say a WRX and the same could go for something like a golf. We need more discussions like this around here instead of shit talking and dividing into cliques
>>15828889
You start literally bottom up, dip.
Suspension and brakes are always first, rubber next, optionally lightweight aftermarket wheels.
Then you worry about the engine.
Brakes are always first, followed by suspension, weight and then engine. Usually only the muscle-car people start with power mods

Never really gave a shit about GTR's or Nissans in general but for some reason the R34 looks so GOOD in this olive green color, if they were available in US at the time how affordable would they have been maybe about 40k?

>he doesn't know the car is silver

explain..
>>15828850
It was 54,000 pounds for the UKDM variant. JDM variant V-Spec was 5.6M yen, so conservatively estimating that currency conversion is the only factor then it would've cost about 52k USD. However the car would need a major redesign in order to meet US standards at the time for crash safety and emissions including an OBD2 compliant ECU and at the minimum a VVT system to pass emissions in CARB states.
It would've been a 60k+ USD car very likely. Still a lot cheaper than a 911 Turbo, but not cheap.
/o/, I can't decide: Do I have one pretty nice car, or an average/decent daily and a project/drift car?
>>15828839
A pretty nice car, a shitbox daily, and a project car.
>>15828847
I can't afford all three nor do I have the space.
>>15828905
More cars is always better where the fuck do you think you are?
What are some decent sedans with a manual trans, comfy interior, a quirky motor, and at least semi reliable? I basically work in my car all day so im looking for the best in comfort/fun/mpg
Hatchback/sedan*
>>15828762
budget?
>>15828762
Golf tsi/gti comes to mind
So most TV and movie "hero" cars are almost invariably coupes. But what are some good hero sedans? And preferably a car that is actually a "hero" and not just owned by a character.
I'll start with an obvious one.

Baja
We're poor as fuark but because we actually build all out own shit and don't subcontract the actual construction like other schools we manage with a budget and team size that is like 1/10th the size of all the large universities that compete.
Also,
>MICHIGAN WE WAR YUO
I met some people who did baja from another school. Looked cool, but I don't know anything about engineering and my school doesn't have a team anyways. We don't even have the interest to start a car club.
Formula SAE is pretty cool yeah
