Looking for some electricity aid!

I need to drill some 2.5" holes in here, but am worried about hitting some wires. My stud finder is detecting live wires almost all over the wall - when I insulate the sensor with a few sheets of paper, it localizes and detects electricity mostly near the outlets - marked in red. For all my research, I can't figure out how he would run the wiring due to the window.

The front of the door is to the right of this wall, and the breaker in the room to the right of that door.

I've marked in black the stud locations, marked in red the locations of the outlets. This house was built about 10, 15 years ago. Everything else I've inspected is up to code, so I assume there's metal plates in front of any wires running vertically.

Any advice you can offer would be very appreciated. Gonna cook some shit to calm down.

Clarifying: the front door is to the left of the wall - reality left, photo right - the breaker in the room to the reality left, photo right of that door.
>>
Further information: there is no ceiling light fixture. The only electrical fixture in this room is a heating vent immediately behind the bookshelf pictured, to the right of the rightmost outlet.

Thanks in advance, again. Feelin' like a babby

how should I go about cleaning it up? currently the "ladder" is rotten and needs replacement. another question, what should I do with it when it's finally.. usable.

Dismantled an old AC unit, wondering what some of the items can be used for, and the proper way to go about it. The unit has a pinhole leak in the front coil/fin assembly. I turned it on after it sitting for awhile and compressed air started spraying out, thinking this was the refrigerant.

-Compressor assembly. Central cylinder with attached coils/fins on either side, and is all one piece. I believe there is no pressure in this system but is there a way to check? Also, how does the compressor work if I attach it to a power supply?

-Large capacitor with 3 terminals on top. 370VAC, 7.0/0.9A

-AC/DC converter. 115VAC to 15VDC/250mA

-Fan motor. 115VAC, 62W, 1.0A

-Display, power cord, fans for the motor

I was thinking the motor could power an outdoor porch fan, ideally hanging vertically. Don't know where to start with the other components. Hook them up and see what happens?

Not sure where I can find milky white pebbles, regular pebbles shouldn't be too hard.

But I'd like to maybe coat them in something, to make them shiny and maybe less harsh on the wood and/or paint. Any idea on what to use for this?
>>
>>1217845
Its traditional to use cowrie shells for mancala , just do a search for them they are readily available many places. They are shiny so you wouldn't have to do anything to them.
>>
>>1217859
I've seen those before, but I find them a bit too small and light-weight.
The feeling when playing is a bit off. I think I like the stones to be bigger and heavier.
It feels better and it looks better as the indents are huge compared to the cowrie shells.

Maybe some bigger shells.

Newbie here, I want to get into indoor gardening and hydroponics so that I can go full hermit if the need arises (coming here from /g/, you understand)
Here's the image I have in my head right now: In my room I have a fish tank, the fish eat their fish food and produce waste. This waste feeds the plants whose roots are extending into the tank and water.
Is this at all viable? Basically I want to create some kind of contained ecosystem for the sake of minimal intervention or tending required.
Again, I'm very new, so I don't know a lot about the sciences behind gardening and such, nor do I know a lot of lingo or buzzwords.
Any help would be appreciated, and I guess anyone else looking for help can post here too.

It's 100% viable, many commercial aquaponic farms operate like that.

There are some things you need to watch out for. For example, if there's too much ammonia in the water then you either have too many fish or too few plants.

You use a simple pond pump to circulate the water, and build a waterfall somewhere to oxygenate it.

That will make the plants grow. You only need to read up on how to actually breed the fish.

Like most other weird shit related to electricity, it's because Edison was an asshole.

Edison was a DC guy. Tesla is responsible for pretty much all the AC stuff we have. and 120V is just the right voltage to tickle your prostate using a long carbon rod.
>>
>>1216997
Americans literally microwave water because the voltage is too low for the kettle, converting to higher voltage can't be that hard

hey - I figure some of you guys here will have dealt with this situation, even though it isn't technically DIY.

>HVAC: ok, did the inspection, here is a list of stuff you should fix. I cleaned out the AC filter blah blah blah
>I pay him
>he gives me document to sign. it includes work he did and at bottom says "I am 100% satisfied with all work blah blah blah"
>me: Sorry I don't sign those. I'm not an expert, so I can't comment on your work. nothing personal.
>HVAC: Well I take it personally
>me: Well, I just paid you - not sure why I need to sign anything
>HVAC: I've never had anyone NOT sign it before
>me: Well, I guess people will sign anything you put in front of them.
>HVAC: walks off

Am I just being an autismo here? I've had repair people fuck stuff up before, and I figure eventually someone will be like "well, you signed saying you were 100% satisfied with the work".

Also thinking of changing out the capacitor in the AC myself. $250 for him to do it. Probably $40 for me to.

Not sure about the other stuff, so I'll probably pay for it ( Starter kit, 2 lbs freon )

Any thoughts appreciated.

Maybe it's just a gimmick that his company has? 100% satisfaction or you don't pay a dime! The catch being that once you sign, you're "satisfied", on paper at least. Now pay the man.
Companies like that make their money if other ways; you can't lose money on every job to make every single fucking customer 100% happy, it's just not possible.

Does anyone have any experience with cement burns?

I'm an idiot and didn't take the sds on some thin set mortar seriously enough and had wet mortart on my skin for probably about 15 minutes and dust sitting on exposed sweating skin for probably 30-45.

There was throbbing pain where direct contact happened the next day and day after that has since subsided. I'm still experiencing itching on skin that was exposed to the dust but there no sign of cracking, bleeding, or blistering anywhere yet after almost 72 hours. I know I can't do anything at this point to help, but can anyone give me an idea of the time frame of the onset of symptoms and if that's any indication of severity? When will I know if I gave myself a rash/minor burn vs a deceptively major burn under the skin?
15 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
I really doubt it's severe. I got cement burns on my knees once when I crouched in wet cement and didn't even take my pants off till the workday was over in like 4-5 hours. all the hair around my knees fell off and I had little sores where they used to be but iircc my skin was back to normal in like two weeks with no treatment
>>
>>1216422
You already know the answers to your questions. For wet concrete exposure it'll cause throbbing pain for a day or so; for dust, itching. You gave yourself a rash/minor burn. If it happens again wash it off right away or it could be worse. Everyone is different, some can swim in the stuff, others have trouble if they look at it too close.
>>
Really appreciate the responses. Definitely an amateur at this and of course the horror stories out there don't give meaningful details, just "I touched cement and my kneecaps exploded."

You're not wrong. I was an apprentice at a machine shop for two german immigrants. I had a precision machining certificate from the local CC, they had me work from 4:30am mopping the shop until 5:30pm driving back and forth to the heat treat shop like I was some bitch. They also paid me $9.50/hr during my apprenticeship, then offered me $8/hr FT after I completed the apprenticeship. I was basically a slave, who was always wrong, could never do anything right, and worked at beck and call for free.

I quit just after two years, I couldn't do it anymore. I live in America, being run ragged by two Germans, while I live far below poverty. Been far below poverty ever since, but I'm no ones bitch.

i have a mystery device that accepts 7v-26v. i hook it up to 8v and it pulls 0.6a. this means it requires 4.8 watts to run.
if i have a battery pack which has 2, 3.7v li-ion cells hooked in series with the capacity of 3500mAh each. the pack has a total 26 Watt hours. which means i can run this device for around 5 hours with this battery pack (or like 3.5h if i want to keep both cells at 20% so they wont die)

or i could hook it up to a 12v PB battery with 7000mAh capacity, that would provide 84 Watt hours and in total keep the device operational for 17 hours

and even though both batteries have 7000mAh capacity, 12v PB battery would still run the device 3 times longer than the Li-ion pack.

correct?
