Anyone know how to make an armband?

Just use some duct tape and paint, and voila! You have an armband that even Hitler would've appreciated. A true son of Germany, or whatever.

This is a closer picture of how some of them actually looked (unless you're going for the armband of an official).

If you know how to sew, it's pretty obvious from the picture what you should do.

If you cannot sew, you could gain control of an industrialized nation through divisive politics of fear and revanchism, then direct a branch of the industry to produce them.

It was worked once before.

What kind of material should i use to make a gasket for compresed air?
4 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Rubber fibre sheets work pretty well
>>
>>1221571
You can buy flat sheets of gasket for automotive purposes, headgasket material is some of the most strong gasket you can buy for a decent $
>>
>>1221571

Last time I rebuilt a tiny compressor pump, I used literal cardboard (card stock, anyway), slathered in grease.

Probably would be easier/better to use proper gasket material, but it was free, on-hand, and it worked, so...whatever, I suppose.

I have an old Acer tablet that charges at 12V 1.5A, I've noticed that there are now 12V phone chargers too thanks to Qualcomm and Mediatek, would it be possible to force one of these quick chargers to run at a constant 12v so I could solder up a usb cable for my tablet?

I tried stepping up 5v2a to 12v with a step up converter a while ago but it would only charge by a couple of precent at most before the boost current would drop below what my tablet would accept.

It would eliminate the need for me to carry 2 chargers for my tablet and phone, which would be super convenient.

you dont have to "force it", 99% of power supplies are designed to run at constant voltage, not constant amperage/power, and up to whatever amperage is indicated on the unit before it blows a fuse or catches fire or whatever

Nah quick chargers scale voltage dependent on data being passed back by the phone on the data pins.

I just found pic related though thanks to csg on /g/ so I should be fine.
>>
>>1221541
desu id still just get a different 12v power supply. you probably have one or two in your house ready to go, 12v is very common and 1.5A is very low

for example, i have an old eepc that runs at 12v 3a, and i just use a Gamecube charger since those are 12v 3.25a. i think my modem and router both use 12v 1.5a power adapters. it would be a quick splicing job to go from their cable to usb or whatever connector your tablet uses for power

this is all assuming that your tablet doesn't already natively work with these quick charge things in which case why ask /diy/ when it'll just werk??

also i missed
>It would eliminate the need for me to carry 2 chargers for my tablet and phone, which would be super convenient.
unless you have a fancy and new quick charge phone, it will probably want to run on 5v not 12v. using a higher voltage may damage it. usb standard before usb c was 5v. double check the specifications of your phone before doing whatever you end up doing

I need to figure out where to get the most old and used hand-tools for my money.
I'm talking bent, dent, rusted, anything that's in desperate need of TLC.
I'm trying to teach my daughter how to fix up hand-tools but I don't actually have anything that'd work as a good example.
Would pawn-shops work? Garage sales?
Help me out.

Garage sales, flea markets and scrap yards are probably your best bet.

Maybe just buy her a beat up hand plane to restore, should teach her all the skills she could need.
>>
>>1221169
Antique stores, but those are usually good tools that are just really old. Some will need maintenance and repair, but they will usually be in better shape than garage sale stuff. They will also be better quality.
>>
Auctions of dead old people into woodworking may be right for you. Look online to find local auction sites and look for listings.

I've got a guitar, which needs a repair. Basically there is a big crack, that splits the wood under the fretboard, but the fretboard itself isn't damaged. However, when strings are on, there is probably some considerable tension on the fretboard, which eventually could lead to breaking guitar in 2 seperate parts.
My main concern is, that the glue won't be applied on the entire surface of the wood and the whole process would be ineffective. Any advices?

>>
>>1221135
This is the job of a luthier. If it is a shit guitar go for it and fix it yourself, otherwise lett a professional do it. It will likely require separating serious work. Try applying glue with generous amount using some kind of needle and the set it in a clamp to force the shape while it dries

How the hell do you sew a teddy bear? I know where you get the fluff, but how do you actually shape the body and limbs and everything?
Every time I try making one, I accidentally sew THROUGH the body when I make it, and it looks like it got cut in half then sewed back together.
How do I go about doing this?

There's plenty of teddy bear tutorials online. None of them are really any good in terms of shape IMO. But they're good enough to give you the theory. After that you can start modifying for your own designs.

My fluorescent light got wet after a burst pipe and burnt out 3 new tubes so took it out of service. I had some good 5 foot tubes and a 7 foot lamp, so i cut 1 foot off each end, to turn it into a 5 foot lamp. it worked fine all day but now the light switches won't turn off, they just arc continuously. I never saw anything like it, even driving a welder. So do I need a transformer for a 5 foot lamp or just new switches?
5 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Did you ground the chassis properly? What kind of tube / starter is it? Is the switch on the wall or the fitting?
>>
>>1220884
>new transformer
transformer=ballast (current limiter)
say they were both T8 size (width of the flourescents) fittings for simplicity:
T8 5 feet is maybe 58W
T8 7 feet is maybe 100W
(figures plucked from ass, but roughly, not sure there is a 7ft T8 desu)
flourescent ballasts are usually only rated to do one thing, you get combis, but, bit more expensive.
So your 7ft ballast is now driving a 5ft 58W tube at 100W - practical fishkeeping (or The Bible) says, 'overdriving could burn down your house' - https://web.archive.org/web/20160303203339/http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/content.php?sid=2769

not 100% this is causing your arcing or whether you could modify existing ballast, need an /ohm/let for that stuff, but, its fairly likely that is the problem - new ballast for a 5ft probably about $10, or fuck all in your nearest junkyard, however, if you just put in an LED replacement bulb (prob about $10 also), they don't use the ballast at all, bypassed to mains, which leaves you with the unused bulbs, but they about $3 apiece worth anyway.

Considering how autistic they are, won't be surprised some of them to have 1:1 locomotive blue prints or even 1:1 loco in their basements.

Hello, I don't really post here but I have a question that I can't seem to find a proper answer for. I've been trying to print this bottle opener but the outer walls seem to never attach on certain places. I'm using an XYZ da Vinci and I've tried changing the settings making it faster making the infill thicker and on the last print slowing it down but nothing seems to work. Any suggestions on how I could print this properly?

Thanks

Look into using a third party slicer and increase the outline overlap.
>>
Try CURA for a slicer, it's free and you can fiddle with advanced settings if you enable them, you want one called infill overlap.

Bought an opener made out of aluminum just like that . After openiing a couple cases of beer with it it was no good .Will never buy another .

Anybody good with electronics/PCB/circuits? I'm currently building http://www.instructables.com/id/Interactive-LED-Beer-Pong-Table-20/

Step 16 is the LED grid. I've wired the grid where the 32 columns are connected by the anode lead and the 12 rows are connected by the cathode leads. The pictures and description show how to wire a 50 pin breakout. But I got a 2x25 ribbon cable. He has a video on how to wire it, but he took it down and won't respond to my emails. There's a couple photos that show the 2x25 but I can't tell how it's wired. Anybody know how I'd wire the ribbon cable to the led grid? Thanks in advance.

>>
>>1220149
What the fuck are you talking about? How one end is connected depends entirely on how the other end is connected, that is all. The wire itself doesn't care what particular led it's connected to. Just make sure one end matches/mirrors the other end.
I really don't know what you are asking because you can't be that retarded?
> beer pong
Well maybe...
>>
>>1220155
Damn man what an intellectual post. I could feel your fedora tipping through the screen. It's almost as if I posted on here because I'm not knowledgeable in the field. Next time I'll make a thread about something I know and then I'll answer my own question. Anyways, I was just curious, seeing as how his original guide just had
COL0 -> pin 1
...
ROW0-> pin 33
...
Which is easy enough. I was just asking if the 2x25 ribbon cable had to be wired to the grid in any way other than that.
>>
>>1220163
I would just wire the ribbons in order, 12 cables from one ribbon to the rows and the rest to the columns. It doesn't really matters as long as you connect them properly to your microcontroller or whatever you're using to drive them.
If pin1 corresponds to the column 0 just wire the first cable of the wire to pin 1, the second to pin 2....

Hi,
melamine boards are cheap and have a durable finish. So I am tempted to use them for some furniture.
The trouble is after cutting the sides are obviously not laminated anymore and would look ridiculous - what do you do to cover them up - are there suitable laminates to glue onto them or some colored laquer or something?
4 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Professionally you put them through an edgebander but for home use you can buy preglued matching tape that you just iron on.
>>
thx shopping for them strips right now
>>
The iron-on stuff can chip and pull up over time - if you can find it, a PVC based strip (like the edge shown in your pic) held on with epoxy is a more durable solution.
