i wanna sculpt marble. 2 questions
1. how do i find a teacher? it seems to be completely dead where i am. im not interested in mass production techniques because those sort of sculptures end up looking shit. i know its obviously better to start small with busts than full sculptures. ive done clay modeling but its basically theз inverse of marble sculpting (add instead of remove, forgiving vs unforgiving) and i know how to model in 3d scape (ie portrait drawing on an reproduction level and 1:1 clay sculptures)
2. where get marble? i asked a place near me how much for a 7' x 7' piece and it cost more than v an already made sculpture of that size (sculpture was $7k, piece was $25k)

>where get marble?
http://www.sculptor.org/Stone/Marble/CarvingStonesOffered.htm
google "where do i buy stone for sculpting". Also why start with marble if you are a beginner, get the cheapest usuable stone you can find and get cracking.
>>
actual stone mason/sculptor here

marble sculpture is pretty much dead everywhere except a few places in italy (mainly carrara) and of course the mass produced shit you mentioned from india and china.

learning how to sculpt can be self-taught, you don't really need a teacher nowadays, youtube and of course books are your friend.

first things first, you do not learn how to carve stone with marble, you start with softer material. carving marble in general is not really recommended unless you have access to pneumatic power tools. carving marble with traditional tools by hand takes extremely long.

you usually start out with limestone or softer sandstone. i do not know where you live so i can't tell you what to get.as limestone english people use portland, the french use charmot and germans usually thüster. i have no idea what americans use.

a good way to start out to get a feeling for carving (rather than sculpting with clay) would be soapstone or alabaster. these are widely available everywhere on the internet.

if you have any specific questions just ask, i can provide you with all sorts of information regarding that topic. also would be good to know where you're from in order to get you more or less local material.

in in Australia so theres no heritage to sculpting i think. im curious about the way you learned. was it part of an apprenticeship or something along those lines? what do you tend to sculpt? is it commissioned or more of your own artistic vision? im interested in the traditional techniques but i guess the modern approach can produce the exact same level of detail?

Okay, so ordering 3d prints is fucking expensive!

I want 96 1 inch diameter resin or ceramic game pieces and I'm being quoted 900-2000??

Is there a cheaper way to get these game pieces made?

Is that what they look like? Couldn't you make them yourself in a lathe and put printed stickers on them? Or even use something like bottlecaps? I'm not sure this is a good application of additive manufacturing.
no one will play your game with you
>>1218513
Fair enough, but I really want this game to feel premium, and so want a high gloss ceramic or porcelain type material.

I wonder if I could 3d print a mold for ceramic.

Hey /ohm/ not entirely sure if this is the right place, if not please redirect me.

So I am taking apart my gfs hair straightener to try and fix it but I cannot figure out how to take the joint apart. You can see in the first pic I took a small screw out and it looks like there is a pin in there to hold the sides together, on the other side (next pic) the same pin seems to have a hex head. I can't seem to turn it or push it out from the screw side. I've just hit it with some lube and I'll give it a crack in a bit but I'm pretty stuck. Any ideas?

So I'm building a crossbow. I cut the body out of a 4x4, and am using a cord rated to stand 175 lbs of force as the string. I'm using a ratchet strap as an aid for drawing back the bowstring (I intend for the bow to be as powerful as possible so I need an aid to draw it back. The length of the draw is approximately 13 inches.

I need help selecting a material that would be suitable for the bow itself. I tried using a 3/4 inch PVC pipe with a smaller pipe jammed inside of it but it couldn't handle the force. I cut out at 3/4 inch diameter notch to hold the pipe so a new material must fit in the hole must accomodate it.

My process for drawing the back the bowstring is also lacking. I put a caribeener in on the ratchet strap and hooked it onto the bowstring. But when I draw ot back, there is no way to relaese it because the force on the line is so strong you can't take it off. I need a cheap way to release the string off of the strap. (Keep in mind I'm not using the strap to release the string; I have a trigger mechanism already set up one it gets drawn back)

Tl;dr: i need a bow material and release mechanism to handle a strong crossbow

id use one of his mechanism's.
they seem pretty simple.

dunno about the bow tho
>>
>>1219738

Research how crossbows work. Tell us about your trigger mechanism. What did people use for the bow material? What do they use now?
>>
I'm completely serious here: look at diagrams of medieval crossbows.
da Vinci's sketches are good too.
Look up cranequin and windlass crossbows.

For example I've got pic related, but how do i put images into the blank cells around the title?
I do have paint.net. Linking tutorials would also be helpful because i can't find what i want excatly.
I will post more pictures that interest me.
Thank you in advance.

Thinking of a 4 seasons survivability, with a high calorie, low footprint garden and undergroud storage must be abile to generate power year round. The catch is it must be done on a fairly limited budget and setup remotely.
Thinking of a basic prefab, modular geodesic dome with generators and solar but would love to hear from yall.

Cabin with a basement. Use solar for basic essentials or wood burner. Look up winterized greenhouse. Basically digging a hole and putting glass over it. Probably use a wood burner for the whole thing at that point and cut the solar. Then be bored as fuck in the middle of nowhere.
