Hello
I have this old split unit aircon blower fan I want to setup as just a fan. Can someone read the diagram and tell me which 2 wires are hot and which is neutral.
Thanks

Think u need a capacitor for that bro
I want to make a gizmo for my motorcycle
Basically I want an airplane to follow me
I need a material that can be a long, either flat or round stick/pole... maybe 4-7 feet long... that can bear about a 1/2 lb weight totally cantilever.
The idea is that this airplane will dangle on a limp cantilever until my motorcycle is moving, at which point the airplane generates lift and flies.
I was thinking something like a fishing pole, but those I found at my local walmart or dunhams sports were too stiff. I dont know a lot about fishing rods so their might be a special kind out there that would do the trick...
In any case I guess the material is more important than the fishing rod. Anyone got any idea for a material or a product I can get a hold of that would work for this?
>pic related, rooster tail the thing would look like at a stop light, just hanging limp off the back of the bike
>>1129155
follow up question:
What is the title, or what kind of credentials would I seek in someone who I could ask about shit like this? About... materials.
Some guys on youtube seem to know all about this kinda stuff but... would I look for a person in the pastics industry? In like... product fabrication? I dont know if its necessarily a plastic even...
I have literally no clue
Why would you just not use a drone that you can set to follow you at a specific angle/distance?

Was looking at making a DIY battery bank, but I've got a few questions.
I'm going to use probably around twelve 18650 batteries with a board to handle charging and that sort of stuff.
My questions are:
>how much should I be paying for legit 18650s?
>should I be using 18650s? is there a better battery that I can use? size doesn't matter, the housing is pretty big
>>1128882
If you haven't yet, look up tp4056.
Cheap as fuck and they output 0.8A each(despite claiming 1A) and you can hook them up in parallel for greater current.
10 of them are usually ~3 dollars
>>1128885
Hmm pretty good, so I could hook up one charger per 5 batteries and get 2A output easy?
And then to charge I can just use a single 2A usb input then connect it to both tp4056s?
Sounds awesome
I've been told that, unless you're an electrician or have a comparable level of experience, you're probably going to go through your battery bank in 8-10 years. This is regardless of quality.
That said, if space/weight isn't an issue, I'd recommend NiFe batteries. Very durable, very long life, very forgiving of overcharging and over discharging
need poetry to red-pill snowflakes at uni, what do?

Become red-pilled yourself and it will come.
For sure don't post about it on /diy/
Could you . . . make a car out of four washing machines, some parts and a chassis?
>>1128637
Well not with an attitude like that
>>1128635
if by car you mean a thingy that can roll on four wheels, then sure, but something that runs on its own or any where near a working road worthy car, no, bcos u need rubber tires
>>1128643
So put tires over the washing machine rims
Hello all. I have a KLH 12 inch subwoofer with a new to me issue. I know they are not high quality by any standard but it met my needs. The first issue was that the subwoofer lost power and played very quietly. I inspected the boards and components and found 1 of the two large capacitors had died. I replaced both with ones of exact same values. Now i happen to get this popping that increases with volume. I would love a new sub woofer but I am not ready to give up on this one. I know for a fact something with the plate amp is causing this and I would like your opinion on what i should check next. The sub now plays loud again but creates a tone similar to a single kernel of corn popping in a microwave.
so far these parts are in stable condition:
►RCA input cable
►Subwoofer
►Cap's solder points are healthy
►Cables going to sub are connected well and healthy
►Have it plugged into a healthy open outlet
I recently added Ethernet over power to my house before i had replaced the caps. I am very open to any suggestions.
Thanks,
Ryan.

If you can go without internet for a bit, I'd suggest turning off your router or something to see if the problem persists. Although I have no experience with it personally, I've heard that ethernet over mains interferes with some HiFi equipment.
Turn off the EoP, the noise should go away.
EoP is known to cause interference, so it's better to lay wiring properly or to use wifi than use EoP.
dumb girl asking quick question
where would I find good wood for creating this?
I have some wicked iron butcher hooks ready
just need a nice piece of timber
I'm in the UK
THX DADDYS
It looks like that wood was weathered and (maybe painted/sanded, rinse repeat) so it split intentionally. You'd get a plank and "stress" it yourself (google this process) depending on the aesthetics. They were looking to make it salvaged barn-wood tier
>>1125500
Old fallen in barns and sheds. Normally in farm country.
>>1125500
Grab a board from a chic table at a flea market. Go to lumber place, buy the cheapest, knottiest piece of shit plank you can find and stress it with heat, oil, lacquer and sanding. Steal a plank from a stables or old barn. Go to beach, search for driftwood. Put untreated wood in saltwater overnight and leave it in the sun. Endless possibilities.

just tried my ginger ale after a week of carbonating, and boy is it stronger than expected
making another batch with better yest to see if it tastes much different
Recently brewed my first batch. Just now I've gone to check on the bottles after having left them in a cool dark room for 2 weeks, and I've noticed this white sediment has built up at the bottom of all the bottles. Does anyone have any idea what this is, why it happened, and whether or not it's still safe to drink? I have no idea what it is - I removed all sediment prior to bottling, and all the bottles had been thoroughly sanitised.
>>1107582
Answer to my own question in case anyone else is wondering: turns out it's very common for bottle-conditioned beers, and the sediment is completely harmless (they're dead yeast particles or something like that). The best way to deal with it is to chill the bottle for a few hours before drinking, which helps to make sure the sediment doesn't mix with the beer when poured - that's exactly what I did, and I very much enjoyed drinking my first homebrewed beer.
>>1107582
>>1107618
Exactly, it's just dormant yeast. When you bottle condition a beer, the priming sugar added a bottling kicks off a secondary, small fermentation. This is what causes the yeast to produce co2 to carbonate your beer. It also causes them to reproduce. So once they finish eating the priming sugar and go back to sleep, they fall to the bottom. Generally in bottle conditioned beers you want to avoid pouring the last 1/4 inch or so of the beer.
I've been on a brewing hiatus for a couple of months after brewing 2-4 times a month for a year. About to get back into it with a zombie dust clone, but I am hoping for a sale on citra soon. $30 a pound is pretty hefty, I've seen it go $20 recently, hoping for a deal like that. Anyone brewed the clone recipe on homebrewtalk? Seems to be well received, that's what I'm using.
hey /diy/,
i'm looking for the lightest and cheapest material which would be available in sheets of around 20-30mm ideally in the largest possible format?
any ideas?

EPS foam, probably.
Someone put up a /diy/ Bingo. Christ.

I have a bucket full of burnt out cheap helicopters im saving for indoor airship parts. If you cant look at a jumble of parts and be inspired you might be in the wrong neighborhood. Check out the RC thread and look at anons airboat maybe.
Would it be possible to feed yourself with a .5 acre plot? Assuming grain/carbs are purchased.
Some of the .5 acre is taken up by a 2000 sq. ft. house and a two car drive way.
>>1128481
possible yes
probable, depends on skills and location and weather and luck
Is it possible to rewire a UK plug and fit a Type A or Type I plug?
I've borrowed this idea from my dad. He travels quite a bit for work and instead of taking multiple travel adaptors to use his personal laptop, work laptop, phone charger, fitness tracker ect, he just takes a UK surge protector and one travel adaptor. He then runs all of his UK things through the surge protector, and puts and adaptor on that to convert to wherever he's gone off to.
I'm going to be going to China for my year abroad and I want a solution that's a bit more permanent. I'm wondering if it's possible to buy Type A or Type I plugs which you can then attach your own wire to.
have you never been in a hardware store or heard of online shopping? also: buying cables or your dad's system are better ideas
>>1128230
step 1: buy a rewireable 4 way adapter extension lead thing. one you wire yourself e.g. you can get a masterplug one from screwfix for <10£
step 2: get an iec 60320 c13 to c14 lead from a computer shop or ebay or something. you can get them in lots of colours now too if you want something fun.
step 3: ut off the c13 plug and throw it in the bin
step 4: connect the c14 end to the multiway socket
now wherever you go you can borrow or steal a computer lead to plug your adapter into.
mk does a range of type a sockets for hotels and shit but i don't know if they do plugs and i don't know where you would find a distributor that actually stocks them.
also note us supply is 110v, sometimes that matters (toasters, vacuum cleaners) sometimes it doesn't (computers, phone chargers) sometimes its hard to tell (computers, televisions) so be aware.
Hi all
i didnt want to start a new tread so i thought i would add to this one.
I am attempting to add a wall mount socket and i am not 100% sure on the wiring.
I have a Live, earth and neutral wire, but where do i wire it in on this plug?
Ok, I want to build a custom desk for my room.
I want to use particle board because to be honest, my hands are fucked and doing any serious work with real wood is not possible/practical.
So right now i'm just in the sourcing my parts and getting rough estimates phase. I got a rough idea of what I want, It should at most take 4 4 foot by 8 foot pieces of particleboard to get all the surfaces, that's around 100$, some metal and screws so another 20-50$ wood dowel cor another 3-5$
but here is where I am coming up at a loss.
particle board itself is a no go, there is no way in hell that's going to happen, So I need something to over the surface to protect against liquid.
I want rosewood veneer but am slowly giving up on that as its retardedly expensive. Was looking at a vinyl sticker and am coming up with 1$ per square foot, which to cover the surfaces I need covered would be upwards 200$
Anyone able to give me better prices or options for covering the shitty particleboard?
plywood you stain?
>>1127985
Use stair tread boards you will be Way happier with the results
>>1127985
Legs would have looked better as a cantilever
What are they? Do the good ones only start at >$2000
>>1126240
Depends on the tolerances you need to hold. For wood projects, sure, basically any one will be good enough. If you need +-.001 or better then you need to spend a lot more.
>>1126240

Here goes.
I've been without a steady job for the last three years.
Trough the EU Employment Agency I found a job in Germany.
I will be a boat mechanic looking after a fleet of 30 diesel engined boats. It starts in two months.
Wage is €4,000 NET per month and accommodation is provided so not bad at all.
Thing is, I have no experience or qualifications.
(I exaggerated a bit on my CV)
I know very little about boats or engines and I don't speak German either.
Should I try and wing it or just quit now?
>>1114925
Give me the job
I can't imagine why you've been out of work awhile
