i have this stupid ikea bed, everytime you move it it makes loud metal sounds, i can't have sex on it and this is really sad.
maybe if i'll stick it to the wall it will stop but the problem is that the bed is made of steel and i can't make hole into it.
can you help me /diy/ ?

1) Flip mattress onto floor
2) Bang away
3) Put mattress back
4) Make bed

How hard is that?

Im impressed, you found someone willing to even consider it, desu.
>or maybe not

That is an inherently wobbly design, its made for space-saving kids or very ocassional spare use, not wild conjugal nookie romps. Im also assuming, you wouldnt have the tools/skills to make it solid(er) - welding, etc. - basically, its not worth the bother of even trying, Get it to fuck, be the best idea, ask your parents for a new one - and if space is that tight, even a wooden high bed be a stabiler idea, usually. Bolting it to a wall, youd need spacers, etc. if you have a skirting board, and, the chances are, its just gonna unattach itself at the first opportunity, leaving you where you were, plus holes in the wall.

tldr, masturbate less vigorously already.

if the threads inside the pipe coming out of the wall is ok, u can just replace the entire knob with a new one
>>
>>1132407
just unscrew the valve and screw a new one in. use teflon tape on the threads of the new one.

Are right. Shut off the main and grab some channel locks or a pipe wrench and have at it.

Imo the liquid teflon taoe paste is master race. Soent days of my lifw fighting the actual tape bullshit...

Hello there DIY,

Have a question about a joist that may or may not be essential. Will post more pics to give you a better idea of the situation:

Basically I want to put a vinyl floor covering over this attic space floor. However, there is a single joist that seems to be doing nothing connected to the floor. It is the only one in the space, aside from another against the far wall. My question is, what purpose could this serve, and is it safe to remove it? More pics incoming

Honorable /diy/,

i come to you in the hope you'd share a fraction of your extensive kbowledge about the inner workings of things.

I am looking for a technical drawing of the mechanic that uses water flow to make a lawn sprinkler turn. If someone could enlighten me i'd be very grateful.

Yours sincerely,

a propeller is literally the opposite of what you want to do.
what you meant to say is you thought there was a turbine in there.

Hey there /diy/ I'm starting a project, I'm trying to build a repulsive magnetic levitation device. I have studied, thorought my university program, a bit of electricity and magnetism, but not enough to give me the knowledge to complete this. I am wondering if this community would help me build it by giving me pointers or whatnot.

Here are the specifics: it has to be stable, it has to be able to lift a certain mass (around 200 grams), it has to be no bigger than ~5 inches per 3.5 inches per 1.5 inch. It would be alimented by battery. Now I have access to a lot of stuff to build it, and have my soldering gun for computer parts. Here's a picture of what I'm looking at.

>>
I have seen quite a few videos and seen diagrams on people who have done it, but only a few had achieved the stability I am looking for. The levitated magnet has to be able to sustain minor contacts and stay there.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DqeraS_Dd6s
This video is one of the best I have seen, but I do not understand all of it, and I don't know the details of the parts I need. Also, the reply from this guy is very helpful:
https://www.element14.com/community/thread/58311/l/repulsive-electromagnetic-levitation-by-4-coils?displayFullThread=true
I hope this helps you in knowing what I'm trying to build and giving me more specific pointers. Here's a picture of the electrical components of the video

(See pic) My neck is killing me so I decided to try the standing desk meme. Until I can make decent risers for my desk out of wood, is it a good idea to stack a couple of paint cans under each leg? The desk is pretty heavy because I have an All-In-One computer.
19 posts and 6 images submitted.
>>
Stack 3 full paint cans on top of each other. Try to push the top one off with one finger. Now multiply that by the height of a table leg.

It'll be fine and sturdy if you find a way to bolt the paint cans and legs together though.
>>
>>1130122

Absolutely retarded. Go get some lumbar from you local chain. That's some shit an easy one would do. Then get made when their computer is smashed.
>>
>>1130122
Pack the cans with sand, and duct tape around seams where the cans meet, then secure legs to cans. You just can't use the desk to support any of your weight.

Compost tumbler how do?

I got some 4X4's and some 6" long 5/16 lag bolts.

Got my basic design.

Do I need to pre-drill the entire hole for the lag bolts or will they be able to drill themselves with a couple inch starting hole? Where the heck would I get a 6" drill bit?

Should I add some boards on the very bottom for addition support?

>>
>>1130119
Lags need a hole the entire way through. You can buy the proper drill bit at any store, it needs to be a hair thinner than the lag minus the threads.

Hey /diy/, I was wondering if anyone here knew anything about irrigating potted plants.

I got my mother a greenhouse for Christmas and she gushes about it all the time, I noticed my father even put in a heat lamp and a remote digital thermometer, plus some other machine that I assume emits heat in winter or something. Anyway, it's not a big greenhouse but she's getting older, and most of her plant watering is done by the sprinklers, but she still has to manually water what's in the greenhouse.

We've got a faucet outlet nearby I could hook up a hose system to, but I figured maybe you guys have some experience. I was thinking I get some irrigation tubing and hook it up with something semipermanent like zipties, then just run the line to the faucet nearby. Sound like a good plan? Any warnings? Good deals on tubing?

>>
You could do thqt, you can get those timers that go on the tap that control when it will come on. You can also get 'leaky' hoses but they're more for beds.

Do you need to control the humidity at all?
>>
>>1129805
If the pots and plants don't move out change then sure, if there is a decent turnover you might find a misters on the roof more useful.
Irrigation equipment is apparently a luxury and therefore expensive, I doubt there is such a thing as cheap parts. Maybe something like rigid pneumatic line, drill your own holes in it
>>
>>1129806
Humidity should be fine, none of the plants are unusual for this climate and could survive outside the greenhouse just fine except when it gets cold

Before now she had simply let her flowers die at the end of the year when winter rolled around.

>>1129808
That's definitely doable, I have a pretty substantial workbench and a wide selection of drillbits at my disposal. That being said, I don't really mind paying more if someone with experience things I'll get better results just using an engineered product.

Hey /diy/

From a friend I got 6 solar cells from those chinese garden LED lamps (pic related). Now I would like to use those to power an emergency light (a few bright LEDs) in a shed that's otherwise off the grid.

What's a simple way to correctly charge buffer batteries?
Also, what type? NiMh, LiOn, Pb? In the winter it can get pretty cold here (-20°C) Ideally, they should survive years before a replacement is needed.

I don't expect the cells to be amazing, but the light is very rarely needed and so they can charge the buffer over days/weeks.

i'd wire them up so you get 6+ volts and hook them up to a cheap TP4056 lithium charger off ebay

-20c isn't real good on a lion batt, but i'd just keep a stack of old laptop cells around
>>
I'd use a 6v SLA battery, they are cheap as fuck on ebay and will last a long time. Li-ion will die from staying full or empty pretty quickly, NiMH/nicad should get a full discharge before recharging or they won't last long.
>>
>>1128950
easiest way would be to use the included NICAD battery.

Find the resistor on the PCB, and either bridge it or remove it and bypass it. Then you can just connect a few ultrabright LEDs in parallel.

i have done the same thing for my porch - I placed the garden light on my roof, extended the wire from the LED to reach my ceiling. Using 3 ultrabright LEDS and had no issues for the past 5 or so months. All running from the included 300MaH NICAD battery - it lasts for around 8 hours which is plenty

Hey /diy/, I'm looking to make a sample cup holder for a beer tasting event. I'm looking for a material recommendation to make them out of. I want to make a bunch of them to sell, so it needs to be cheap, light, easy to cut, and able to be sanded so there aren't any rough edges.

Pic related, this is my prototype. It works great, but the material was a bit thick and took too long to cut.

I have a Viewsonic P220f CRT monitor that I am trying to repair.

Normally it wouldn't be worth the hassle to repair an old CRT but the specs are good enough to justify it

I bought it sealed in the original box and plastic in 2015 and used it for about 150 hours before it died. It's been sitting ever since then

I'm comfortable with soldering.
I know how to discharge CRT's

My problem is that the monitor receives power but no picture is displayed.

I have the full service manual here

How do I go about diagnosing the problem?

I'd like to make some powder that explodes in the most entertaining fashion I can think of. I've used the crushed up heads of matches and sparklers. Sometimes I'll put in a strike-anywhere matches so throwing the powder in a container will cause it to explode on impact. Other times, I'll do the same but with napalm so it sticks. Does anyone have any fun ideas I can try?

Hello /g/

I am starting an apprenticeship as cutting machine operator with focus on turning technology.
Any tips for a newbie? I am going to learn to operate a Mori Seiki nlx2500sy and maybe a 5 axis machining center.
I'd like to train G codes and simulate them, but can't find the right freeware to do so.

Also feel free to tell stories about your projects and crashes!

that ones $78,646 USD for the comtainer.
plus delivery, plus $4k odd for insulation (if needed.. ;) plus you need a foundation (or, in this case, the garge underneath) + somewhere to put it.

So, @ $225 per square foot, you about double the average construction cost already. Before adding in the rest. Cheep, its really fucking not dude.
