Only in parts, best to sell it. Non vacuum autoclaves can go for around £800- £1200 to the right buyer.

Im thinking of making my own bed frame. Haven't touched wood since highschool. Is it possible to stain glued wood? Is it ok to oil it or does it have to be varnished?

Nothing sticks to dried PVA glue. Not epoxy, not silicone nothing! The only thing that sticks to dried pva glue is super glue.

When gluing with PVA always wipe up squeeze out when you can.

As fsr as your second question. I normally use these finishes in this order from least durable to most.

Beeswax
Oil finishes
Shellac
Water based poly
Oil based poly
Polyester resin
Epoxy

But each one has its uses... For example you can really only do real french polishes with shellac. You can get the same immediate effect with epoxy. But epoxy wont brown or darken over time. But may yellow instead. The shellac ages and that's why you don't paint or scrape old vintage finishes unless you absolutely need too. Or its just really fucking ugly
>>
>>1133090
>stain glued wood?
you mean will it cover up a horrible glue job of boards? no
but as long as you clean it up probably and use titebond or even regular white glue, it shouldn't be a problem

>Is it ok to oil it or does it have to be varnished?
no one ever has to do anything....I don't see why you'd want to oil it unless you're making it out of nice wood, which seems a waste for just a bed frame

just use polyurethane

Is it possible to boost pump pressure by connecting an compressor to the outlet tube.

What would happen if i'd connect the airpressure line in a slight angle to the tube carrying the water like in pic related.
13 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
No, if anything, you would lose water pressure
>>
>>1132604
But the pressure exits through the nearest and easiest opening, why would it act against the pump?

If i attach a tube in a 45 degree angle near the opening of the main line the water current sucks air through the tube. Its called Venturi effect if i recall that right.
>>
>>1132600
The soloution is surely a more powerful water pump, adding air to the water line would just result in a "splattering" at the outlet

So I want to make my own Workbench, but bought 2x3 instead of 2x4

I tried standing in the middle of a 2x3, 8 feet long, and it does bend till it touches the floor. I weight 200 pounds.

Would a 2x4 bend as well?
20 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
>>1130951
Of course. A steel beam would also bend. It's just a matter of how much deflection the project can tolerate.
>>

The problem is that I don't have any real numbers

I just want to make my own workbench/closet

I want to put all the clutter above the workbench, without risking myself into getting crushed by tons of materials above me.
>>
>>1130956
Well, without numbers that's a bit hard to spec. Making the thing out of 2x4's would be a start. Can always add supports/legs if it sags too much. If you're intent on an 8ft span then maybe bump up the cross members to 2x6. Either way once you screw the top down to the structure the thing gets a lot stronger.

Moles have plagued my beautiful lawn for over two years now and I'm ready and motivated to wage total war on them this year.

Fake poison worms have been an expensive failure. Maybe I'm not using them right, but I no longer trust their effectiveness. Mole repellents (ground thumpers and chemical lawn treatments) didn't work.

I'm thinking this time I would like to try smoking them out, but instead of using glorified sulfur stinkbombs like what is commercially available, I'd like to try a new approach and flood their tunnel network with lethally poisonous gas. Better still if the gas makes them suffer a bit before they expire, and is tenacious and sticks around in the tunnels. It would be best if I could just make the underground caverns lethally toxic to mammalian life for a while.

This video proved encouraging. If I could homebrew toxic smoke and forced it through the tunnel network with a shop vac all the moles would be as good as dead.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kUy557_mvE

Any thoughts? Who here has eliminated a mole problem successfully?

You can try planting mole bean plants or some other toxic/noxious thing like tagetes so they know to stay away.
>>

>poison worms
You sure they are moles, not voles?
> Better still if the gas makes them suffer a bit before they expire
Oh, another psychopath. Sulfur dioxide certainly fits the bill then, you just need lots of it.

Why not just use traps? Sure, you still need to use them properly, but they work quite well.

IIRC there are less restrictions on the kinds of work that apprentice plumbers can do on their own, they can be sent out to do jobs by themselves, and I guess are less of a liability due to the nature of the work. Not to mention that there are more people who want to be electricians rather than plumbers. I'm equally interested in both trades and am trying to weigh the pros and cons of one over the other, so if I will have an easier time finding work as an apprentice plumber that may be a deciding factor.
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>1133474
The ibew is the biggest union in the us because there is a huge demand for electricians. Any trade is going to have a supply and demand problem as the boomers die off or retire and the fact that millenials don't want to get dirty to earn their money. Any trade will do but as a general rule Electrician>Plumber on the totem pole.
>>
>>1133475
>Any trade is going to have a supply and demand problem as the boomers die off or retire and the fact that millenials don't want to get dirty to earn their money

I'm in my mid 20's and I've been hearing this for 10 years, but I have yet to see any truth to it. You can be waitlisted for 2 years trying to get into a trade school pre-apprenticeship program, and there are far more graduates being churned out than there are apprentice positions, the majority of them end up working at hardware stores for minimum wage.
>>
>>1133475
More like there's demand problems *until* boomers start dropping.
when I got into IBEW I was one of 75 applicants. Only 3 of us actually landed the apprenticeship. I got in thru nepotism but the others had re-applied for several years before finally getting in.

Everyone is screaming that the sky is falling but they are not in a hurry to get people in the trade while simultaneously not realizing that millenials want to get their career off the ground !today! and not when the JATC gives the go-ahead.

So it’s around 5:00am and I’m sleeping soundly when suddenly, I awake to a loud clattering racket!

“Holy shit, some nigga is trying to break into my house!”

I jump out of bed and grab my house gun (a S&W M686-5) when I realize the noise is coming from… above me in the attic?

Damnit…

I quickly get dressed as the loud racket continues and grab a flashlight (MagLite 2-D cell) and go outside and check the gable end vent and sure enough, there’s a raccoon’s ass and waving tail sticking out between the slats as he (in a panic, as I’ve spotted him with the light) squeezes into my attic, then turns around to look back at me thru the now bent to fuck gable end vent slats.

You little fucker!

I get a stepladder out of the garage and clean out the junk in the office closet that has the access hatch to the attic, then load up my Ruger MkII .22 pistol and cautiously lift the attic hatch, prepared to wildly mag-dump on the bastard in case he waiting to ambush me but once I get my head up there and look around, I don’t see anything.

Just as precaution, I fired off two rounds into the roof joist near the gable end vent but he must have bugged out while I was getting the ladder and clearing out the closet.

Looks like I got to get me some stainless steel expanded mesh screen and staple it up over both gable end vents.

Im remodeling our basement and putting up new ceiling tile. My grandfather was the last one to do anything with it and he put support wires fuckin everywhere randomly it turned into this huge cluster fuck getting the old tiles down where I broke damn near every tile getting them down. Seeing as I don't want to ruin the new ones before I get them up there what's the best way to set up supports. I've read that you only need support about every three joists. You guys got any advice? I don't want the fucking thing to cave in from lack of support.

hi guys, i need a little tips and tricks or perhaps a guide on building a tiny home. i'm not planning on building it yet but my limitations are

> it has to be $60,000 or less
> a footprint no more than 150 square feet and 1800 cubic feet.
> it has to work sustainable "off the grid" (as in i can go without electricity or city plumbing and such)

i'm hoping to be finished with the design/planning of this house over the next 9 weeks. i'll start building soon after that.

Hi, it's my first time posting on this forum so I'm hoping I can get the help I need.
I plan to make a watch as a gift for a very dear friend. I've already made the designs for the watch but I am having trouble trying to find all the mechanical parts that go into a normal wrist watch.
Does anyone have ideas on where I can purchase them?

i have an old car battery i got for free that ive been trying to bring the cranking amps up on for a few days as it drops from 12 to 6 volts when tested on my load tester. earlier today the water and acid (it was mostly acid because the baking soda reacted very vigorously) somehow vented out of the caps while on the charger and i dont feel like having to buy more acid and deal with it after it doesnt help the battery so i want to just scrap the battery for its lead and other cool metals. what is the safest way to neutralize the rest of the acid in the battery and open it safely? the one i have is similar but slightly different.

Projects of any /diy/ kind you recently have finished-general.

I felt kinda clever thinking these speaker platforms out so I thought it was worth sharing.

Wanted to clear some space on the desk so I came up with these platforms.

Bought 2x table legs at the hardware store, got a bamboo ikea cuttingboard and some other pictured hardware.

There is rubber padding in between the platform and the speaker which I didn't get a photo of.
