Shit. Ok I'll look at the circuit box I disconnected the motor from and see if there is a capacitor.

I was hoping to just hook it up to three phase and have a nice fan in my shop.

Model number looks like GAL050H40925, looking that up on ebay shows up with a uF reading of 3.0, so i'm guessing you're gonna need a 3.0 microfarad capacitor to make it work right. It'll run without it, but it'll be slow. Also, you need to plug it in to 208/240 volt socket. If you don't have experience fucking with this kind of stuff I wouldn't recommend it as a first project. Based on the wiring it appears to be variable speed... I think black is gonna be the fastest. If you have the model of the machine that the thing came off of it should give you more information if you look it up. There's pdfs out there.

Okay, looking at this and thinking about it a little more, the red and orange probably conect to the capacitor, so you connect those wires to that, then connect white to neutral and either black, blue, or yellow to hot. Thats usually how that's done, i think. Don't quote me though, I'm just a dog.

And looks like black is hot for full speed and white is ground. Let's see if it works

You need a 220v source of electricity. You're on your own for that part, Like I said this is not a good project for someone who hasn't done this sort of thing before. You can electrocute yourself and die.

The unit when installed was connected to three phase. So the 220 must come from two 120v legs

Yes, that's how you get 220. You need a 220 source of electricity. That's two hots. None of those wires are ground wires. Ground wires are typically green and wired separately. You need to wire in a 220v plug and plug it to a 220 outlet. If you try to do anything fancier than that you are a moron and should start testing power sources with your dingdong because your genome is hurting the value of humanity.
