Hi guys. Arduino thread here. So i will have an arduino controling my plane in the air. The battery(LiPo) is only connected to the esc
So what can i use to power the arduino board itself and keep it for some time. Also i need something light.
As i might know you will say it depends on what it does, it is connected to telemetry RF , gps module, gyro module , 2 led's , 4-(9g) servos and it think that's it.
The ESC usually has its own 5v regulator for things like arduinos and servos
if your're worried about lightness get an attiny or atmega and solder it to perfboard
>>1119740
1. Get an esc with a bec.
2. Why not uas a r/c receiver?
I want to make a doorway in that wall, can you all give me some suggestions?
My current plan is to stick in a steel lintel and just bust everything below it so I can start digging into the dirt behind it
>>1101902
RIP in piece OP
>>1101902
You are going to have to shore up the structure that is currently resting on this wall section. Next, excavate on the outside to relieve pressure on the wall. Cut hole in wall wide enough to put in footings and columns to support lintel.

Suggestion: hire someone
I have just made my first silicon Mould of a structural join/connector. The part will be bearing approx 15kg.
What does one suggest the strongest, most cost effective, uv stable material would be?
I need to produce about 100 parts and each part will consume around 180ml.
Any suggestions are welcome
Post pic of part and describe use case.
You don't have many options for cold casting, mainly just epoxy resin, which isn't very strong. Do you have any other manufacturing options?
Unable to upload photo at moment, it is basically a hexagon shaped joiner which I am making a sculpture from.
From the joiner I will be using short lengths of pvc conduit (cheap/free) to bring form and shape.
As for other methods I am open to ideas but need to be sensible I.e not going forge some steel in my yard, although that would be fun.
>>1131914
Uv protected 2 part plastic casting?
I used ez- flow 60 before to make plastic dicks for grean sand molds.
Worked like a charm and i beat the fuck out of them.
House full of fuckless dicks now.

Im going to be wiring 4 of these capacitors in series, so I need a voltimeter to measure their total charge. which would max at 1400 Volts in series
What is the most inexpensive and suited voltimeter you would recommend? Its only function would be to measure the charge of the capacitors
>>1131715
Get two of those red multimeters that harbor freight gives away for free, put them in series in 1kv mode, and add the two voltages.
NOTE: I mean to say wired in parallel (capacitors in parallel work like resistors in series)
>>1131716
will do
where are the coupons to get them free?
I've got 2 guitar pedals that both draw 9v 500ma, and my powerbar has only 1 9v 500ma output. Would running a y splitter from the 1 output into 2 pedals be feasible?
>>1131433
Not likely, at low output levels where each pedal may be drawing 200mA you should be ok, but at higher gain levels both pedals will approach their maximum rated current when you really lay into it, which could lead to all sorts of audio artifacts or the failure of your power supply. A splitter will be fine if you have a 1A or more power supply.
>>1131434
ah I see. so when splitting volts its goes ok but with amps you have to add it up?
>>1131435
You need to consider ohms law. V=IR, voltage equals current divided by resistance. I will qualify this post by stating I have been drinking whiskey since I got home from work a few hours ago, and have just ripped a few cones down as well.
In the scenario you describe, you are increasing resistance as seen by the power supply. You have gone from one pedals worth of resistance to two. This modifies the value R, which inherently modifies V and I.
Think of a water flowing through a pipe. Voltage defines how much pressure is pushing the water, current defines how many water molecules pass a given point in a given timeframe. In electronic terms we can consider electrons to be water molecules, and the pipe a wire. Your set up as it stands is pushing electrons through the pipe, but there are not enough electrons for the circuit to utilise. Increasing voltage won't do much, you're just hurling the same amount of electrons into the circuit at a faster rate. You need more electrons.
My brain is telling me I'm wrong and to shut up now, so I'm going to stop here, post pic related, and let the rest of the board heckle my shit while explaining this to you properly.
Good day.

There are absolutely no redeeming features about this project.
Cyclists should use hand signals
Should be looking at the road not the phone
Lights shouldn't be so high up and on the helmet, they are relative to your head rather than the vehicle.
>>1131031
>literally just a youtube link
I'll consider caring when you make a proper post.
>>1131031
That doesnt even make sense.
You dont need an entire smart phone to blink some leds.
I dun goofed.
I got a lovely stereo microscope for fairly cheap from the local college property sale. Unfortunately, it was seized pretty bad, and my ham-handed dumbass turned the focus knob until I stripped over half the teeth from the helical gear inside. Is there a crash course on measuring helical gears so I can get a new one? Alternatively, is there an easier way of solving this problem?
Pic relate, the part I wrecked in question, a Bausch and Lomb E-Arm focus rack.
>>1130878
>fairly cheap from the local college property sale
heh shoulda bought two
maybe you can check sdi-si for something similar. could you use some gauge pins to find pitch/other parameters?
>>1130882
Yeah, I might head back today and see what they have. They had a second one but no stand for it.
As for gauge pins, I have basically no machining tools save for a vaguely dodgy digital caliper.
It's going to be a lot easier to find a replacement than to fix it. Look for a B&L mountable focus arm on ebay, http://www.spectraservices2.com/ (just email the guy), or get a new one from http://www.osi-incorp.com/microscope_stands
Can anyone tell me what this thing is? Found it while cleaning out the basement. It's old and a bit rusty but looks interesting.

Does a TP roll fit over it?
How do I CNC, /diy/?
I want to design one just for driling and v-notching PCBs/contour milling. I have 3 nema 17 stepper motors, and I've ordered a few A4988 drivers off aliexpress, together with a CNC shield. I'll use an Arduino running GRLBL to control the machine. I understand the basics of end stops and everything else, but... how about the phisical structure of the machine itself? What are my options? If my working area is roughly the same size as an A4 sheet, can I use simply use 8mm rods and those linear bearing blocks for every axis?
I intend to have a belt drive on both the X and Y axes, and make the Z axis using a screw drive.
I sketched this just now, tell me what you think. Also, post your machines for inspiration.
from the sounds of it, what you're building is essentially a 3d printer type cartesian robot. Probably not going to be strong enough to really cut much of anything, especially with belt drive.
I've built a pcb milling machine that uses nema 17s, but it was screws on all axes.
>>1130361
It looks like a screw-driven cnc would be much easier to implement than a belt-driven one
Will a rear passenger door from an 02 or 04 ford explorer fit and function on an 03 explorer?
My L rear window was vandalized and there's slight body damage. I'm going to the junk yard where they quoted me at around $80 for a whole door. So instead of figuring out how to remove and replace the window I figure I might as well take the whole door, but if they don't have 03's in my car's color (they only have four 03's) they might have the right color 02's or 04's.
>>1129797
Did you google it? Find the part numbers and see if they match up? Have a trawl of some forms dedicated to your car and see if someone else has done it. Call up the dealer and ask them, might tell you to fuck off but so what worth a shot.
It's pretty common I'd say, did it myself with a tailgate, glass shop wanted best part of a grand, new door cost about 40 from a you-pull-it. I just walked around eyeballing the different years to see what years the shape changes were. Good luck!
>>1129797
Vehicles are produced in generation variants.
If your car is of same generation and model as the junk car, then it will fit.
For example, Gen 1 might be 1980-1989 Gen 2 might be 1989-1995 Gen 3 1995-2002
etc
>>1129811
can't find rear door part# on ford's site, but the front door is the same for 02 and 03.
>>1129812
yep perfect third generation is 2002–2005 thanks
so i will definitely do this. You guys think I can also reuse weatherstrips from newer explorers (the ones on the body that seal when the door is closed)? I would take the ones from the older models but they're probably just as shitty as mine.
TL;DR:
Where does it "breaks" the wood on Scenario 1?
Where does it "breaks" the wood on Scenario 2?
Which Scenario is stronger?
Long story:
I am planning to build my own workbench/shelf thing.
I am planning to put some heavy stuff in the shelf above the bench, because I don't any space left on my garage.
It is imposible to nail or screw anything to a wall, so I need this thing to be fully supported by itself.
3 of the columns of my bench/shelf are just straight columns, that support a rectangle of wood above it.
The problem is my 4th column... I don't want this column to be in my bench space, because I need this corner to be free, so I can easily move large stuff on my workbench.
Is there any other way of doing so, other than scenario 1 or 2?
Thanks guys.
I will put an image of the workbench I am trying to build
This is what I am trying to do
>>1131541
both are more or less strong because one is just a skewed version of another
and if you can't even give a ballpark to "ridiculously heavy", this thread is meaningless because nothing will be strong enough unless it is "more than ridiculously strong"
>>1131548
What I want to know is how this thing is going to break
Do any of you guys know any plans for an easy to build cat tower? My cats been getting on top of our table lately and I wanted to build him something he could sit high on. But I've never built something like this before, so I wanted a simpler design.
>>1131176
Wrap PVC tubing in sisal rope?
>>1131176
Pretty mutch any bullshit u can coble together. Nail carpet to it
>>1131176
I've done this before, and basically what's been said is pretty true. If you want a more advanced design, what I did was get a section of concrete form tubing (basically a big, hollow, dense cardboard tube) and cut a large enough hole in it for the cat to enter, then I set up a plywood base and top platform and a rig like >>1131179
said next to the tube, and cover the plywood in carpet. As long as it isn't used in water it should last pretty long. I can send a picture tomorrow if you want one.
I am building this shelter with square canvas and some logs. Zeltbahns these days are too fucking overpriced.
My questions are: How to transform the canvas into this pyramid-shaped roof and how should I nail the logs together.
Drawings greatly appreciated.
>>1130180
bump
>>1130180
Cut square in half along the middle to create two triangles.
Install gromets along triangle edges.
Weave together with cord.
Sew a lip on one triangle and you can imitate military modular tent weaving.
Don't quote me on the cutting part, just thinking out loud.
>>1130180
And wouldn't joinery work better than nails, or in addition to?
So i'm wanting to build myself a chicken pen i'm gonna have to make it pretty secure allot of predators making a come back around here.
and i'm also planning on making it more or less pay for itself in the chickens i eat and the eggs plus selling some eggs.
i got a picture of the basic idea i got in my head right now but i plan for the coop to be on the outside so they won't try laying eggs under it which is a bitch to get out and i plan to make the outside yard pretty big so they don't get stressed out allot because i do plan to eat them i want them healthy etc.
There are about 1,000,000 different chicken coop designs online. Every one basically works.
If you are planing small scale (less than 10 birds) you need something called a "chicken tractor". They are cheap as shit mobile coops that you move from place to place every few days. Their big advantage is that the birds never destroy all the greenery they have access to and you never have to clean out a coop.
Source-I have about 26 chickens right now and have been keeping them for a few years now.
>>1120025
i'm going for about 20ish chickens total.
i also plan to use the chicken mud "all the shit and crap that get's built up in the yard coop to build up a area of my yard for a garden by making some really good top grade soil where i have this big batch of sand on my land.
which only have pine tree's growing on it right now allot of them are are good enough size that i'll likely be using them to work on the pen with to save some money.
>>1120033
I don't recommend actually milling your own lumber. It is a bunch of work and unless your time is free and you want bragging rights, 2x4s are cheap enough. You are going to need realistically 2 coop like things. One small one for young ones and separating out specific birds, and one main one for all your hens and your favorite roosters. I have a small tractor that I use for my meat roosters that is basically an inclosed box on top of a large frame with wheels on one side and mesh for walls. I also have a main coop that is basically a small shed with some roosting posts. Srsly youtube is your friend here. Homesteaders fucking love chickens and love sharing all their info online for some reason. I have found more info on there than I ever would have expected.
How much do you actually know about keeping chickens? do you plan on monitizing this or just replacing all your store bought eggs with home grown?
Fuck this snow.
So I'm thinking of either a flamethrower or something like muffler attached to the end of weedwhacker and using that to melt snow.
Has this been done before? Is it effective?
>>1128715
>Is it effective?
No
>>1128715
water has a ridiculously high heat capacity and enthalpy of fusion. it will soak up whatever flame you throw at it, and you will just waste fuel.
No. It takes a shit ton of energy to convert ice to liquid, not to mention the issues that I assume would follow, such as the water then later freezing over.
For perspective it takes 333.5 kJ to melt 1kg of Ice. An equivalent amount of energy would raise 1kg of water nearly 80C.
You are better off making a better plow or something.
