I kinda like it. Obviously they go over-the-top since it's for actual stage performances, but it can help for reference if you're making an outfit that they've already done.

I keep debating which wig I should get for my Umi cosplay. Does anyone have a recommendation. I'm trying to go for darker blue. I know people have mixed feelings about the blue and black wigs, so I was thinking of a very dark blue. I just don't want to get a crap quality wig, especially since I have to pin a hat to it when doing pic related.

I'm sort of in the same boat but for the opposite reason. On your point, the reason why men started thinking this way is because modern and younger female cosplayers have presented themselves as such. The hobby has changed drastically in the last 6 years or so thanks to the likes of Nigri and the other attention whores. Girls think they can get attention by dressing in skimpy clothing and all the neckbeards flock to them. You rarely become "cosfaumous" anymore by being good at your craft. I still do it because I have the drive to better my abilities and I like seeing the end result. I'm a guy, so I don't get many pictures, photographers don't come to me or ask to get a photoshoot even though I win masters divisions regularly. This is how the community is now and it pisses me off.

I do it because I love it and I try my best to ignore that part of it. It's difficult, don't get me wrong. There's always pressure to wear more revealing cosplays to get more attention but so long as you focus on the craft/creative aspect of it,you should be okay. I don't cosplay competitively and I don't plan to so I think I do manage to avoid a lot of that negativity. People have a perception of cosplayers anyway, that we're all weirdos and creeps, so I take it with a grain of salt. Your friend's girlfriend does sound threatened by you so likely she thinks you're attractive and is worried that her boyfriend probably does. I wouldn't let her opinion push you away from the hobby.

Cosplay until it stops being fun. That's my philosophy.

We've built a Bluetooth boombox for DragonCon that's going to be painted like bricks from Mario. I'm a bit stumped on the strap. Had planned to single strand braid a green rope and attach some artificial plant leaves along it with a piranha plant mouth at one end made from some leftover birch plywood used in the box. I'm not too sure it'll come out quite as I expect. Any suggestions? The box is 1'x1'x3' and weighs right at 35 pounds with the battery inside.

So me and a group of friends are planing a group cosplay at this upcoming con and we decided to go as the many versions of Paul Rudd. Now I was given the task of being celery man and I have no clue at all where to get a suit like this. Any idea on where I could find one.

I got hit with a 24 euro customs fee for a package worth 27 euro. That 17,50 "handling fee" is a fucking joke. I had to fill the customs declaration myself, so the only work they did was put the number in a calculator and print the bill. It also makes it pointless to pay for faster shipping, because it got held up in customs for 3 days.

The second two are FINE the first one is the WORST if you're not a part of the panel it's SUPER FUCKING BORING. What I'd like to see is more entertainment-based panels. Like things meant to entertain rather than just inform

I offered to bring my two poles to a con once for a 'grab a photo and try some fun spins/silly moves' style panel but I was refused because it wasn't Japan or Anime related.

I agree anon that the pool of material is stagnating (especially since it's not like you can build on previous panels as there's no guaranteed attendance) but it can be hard to think outside the box when you have to stay on theme.

What I've noticed is that Game Shows end up being the most entertaining but they're probably the rarest type of panel

am I the only one that thinks that old /cgl/ was never good? threads would get derailed easily, the average seagull was more concerned with drama than actual cosplay and lolita. 5 PT threads, 3 kooter threads, 10 vendetta threads and maybe 3 threads actually discussing Lolita and cosplay.

Not to mention that the drama was so bad it bred a terrible hivemind where it was cool to doxx people (as long as you were anon) and harrass others. even lolcow isn't as bad as old cgl and that's saying something.

of course old /cgl/ had a better community and would actually band together to get things done (like derpy!)

Other than that, I don't really miss it.
