I've been offered to live in someone's vacation home for free for a few years if I promise to use my carpenter skills to renovate it. They said that we can write a contract so that I can get a piece of the cake when they sell it, but what if they never sell it?

Is this a good deal or is it slavery? Should I ask for a salary instead?

it depends very much on what your time is worth, what rent runs in that area, and how long it will take you.

this should be a pretty simple math calculation.

ignore the thing about getting some of the sale cash, unless you plan on putting a lien on the building you'll probably never see it. Assume you won't get that money and then if they pay you something it's a bonus.
>>
>>1499534
I'm a neet so my time isn't really worth anything and I don't even know how long I'll stay there so how am I supposed to do a calculation?

Nobody rents over there. It's in the middle of nowhere. I'll live on gibs from the government while I work on the house. I don't mind being a slave for room and board as long as the work I do is comfy. I honestly think it's a really good deal, but I'm afraid that others will make fun of me for being taken advantage of.
>>
>>1499534
This.

>>1499543
No-one's gonna make fun of you for free rent.

If they're gonna draft up a contract, the following - at minimum - should be things you should consider:
- What will and will you not do? For example, are there things (the roof, power lines, etc.) that you won't deal with for liability reasons?
- Who pays for materials?
- Who pays for electricity, gas, water, internet, etc? Who pays if something, like a fridge, breaks down?
- How much would they expect to be involved in decisionmaking (colors, design, etc.)? Would you have to consult with them before undertaking projects?
- Would you be expected to do a certain number of projects per month/year, or would it be more generic than that?

I wouldn't bother with the salary if you can negotiate the above satisfactorily.

Are you currently learning anything? Is it any degree? Online courses of something? Is it related to your current job?
Art? Music? Programming? Economics?
How much time do you spend learning compared to how much you work?

Taking a1 month financial trading course. It was offered for free. Probably dumb and gay but I might learn something.

Shooting for mechanical engineering degree. Broke af college student. Mid-twenties. I was doing trades and decided to just walk away from it and pursue a life of academia. Literally start from nothing.

Would like internship or work related to my course of study. But the pickings are slim. Makes you wonder how other college-age people like me are able to afford such lavish lifestyles.
>>
>>1499519
Yes, online courses. Multiple.

No, it's not directly related to my job.

The time expenditure depends on the class. I'm taking advanced engineering classes mostly, which take a LOT of time - I'd estimate maybe 10-20 hours per class per week. That's mostly because the programs require real actual hard-ass work that I can't blow through based on knowledge alone. The MBA courses I'm also taking are significantly lighter, maybe 5 hours per week at most, and can be handled pretty much while watching movies.

Work-wise, I average 60-70 a week.

It's all totally doable, it just requires rock-hard discipline. No going out, no fucking about, no video games. Posting on here is pretty much my only "hobby" nowadays, save for exercise.

Situation Analysis.
SWOT Analysis.
DCF valuation of each project, if I consider my time an investment.

In other words: THERE'S NO HARD AND FAST RULES.
WELCOME TO REAL LIFE.

Oh and here's one: which one do you like? Which one are you unlikely to give up on?

I'm a damn college student who has way too much free time on his hands to not experimenting on a business but can't make up his mind.

>which one do you like? Which one are you unlikely to give up on?
I like both projects but I think I'm more unlikely to give up on the longer one.

I'm a college student and applied to this multimedia video internship. Basically as long as you can do some video editing with adobe suite the job is yours. They responded to my application right away, probably since I had a marketing/design internship with a competitor in town and so my interview is on Friday. Except I don't know how to use after effects at all. I even tried learning it a few months ago but that shit was hard so I stopped. I still applied anyway because I'm trying to make bank.

I guess I have a few questions. Should I still go to the interview? If I'm offered the position, should I take it anyway? And how hard is it to get a basic grasp of after effects?

>>
>>1499448
Look at the showreels and quality of the output of the company. With your Premier or AVID, or Shake knowledge could you make up something just as good.

If the answer is "no" then you better watch every fucking After Effects tutorial, pull apart projects that you download... In fact a good idea would be whatever like effects or tricks they often use in their videos, learn how it's done: reverse engineer it.

Download the Manual and read it, so at least you'll SOUND like you know what you're talking about.

"Well actually I just leave the object static, and I move the camera, because I like to play around with the optic distortion settings, and you can even parallax"
Or whatever you'd say.

Freelancers, especially people doing making your money with Copy, Graphic Design, Photography or similar stuff. Where do you find your clients?
What's your most successful strategy? Do you have a strategy?
How much of it is word of mouth?

How much of your income comes from the same customers?

I get all my work from word of mouth.
It's not even that I've been recommended, it's that I'm the only (avalible) person they know who can do the job, and I own my own equipment.
>>
>>1499401
Good customer service and word of mouth does the rest for me. (My industry is swamped.)

Customer service/social skills > timeliness > cost > actual skill. I pride myself on having some decent chops in what I do but I realize that it's just one small piece of many.

What's worked best for me is building up a fanbase/community that legitimately like you as a person (or persona, whatever.) You create a demand for your attention, approval, and company because people like working with you, while also needing the kind of work that you provide versus someone who just does your job but not much else. When it gets to this level, even when I RAISE my quotes, demand keeps spiking. People come back not only as clients but with referrals. Return clients make a good chunk but not majority of my customer base, however it's BECAUSE of these return clients that new clients are often attracted to me (via referrals, good reviews...)

Unfortunately this is very tiring for me so I've had to take breaks from this particular line of work from time to time, even though I love it!
>>
>>1499603
Interesting hierarchy of importance there. I guess it all comes down to being likable as person while also for what of a better phrase "dealing with the customer"

>You create a demand for your attention, approval, and company because people like working with you, while also needing the kind of work that you provide
That is what I've suspected for a long time. Sounds like real good advice.

When I was a NEET, I did ClickWorker. Made about $20 a day in 1-3 hours work speeding through their jobs. The search engine evaluation ones were the best. You have to wait I think 3 weeks before the money gets in your account but after that it starts coming into your PayPal every Sunday I believed.

Bot & sell Runescape gold.

Also, play legitimately and make $1/hr doing Zulrah.

Have an account to merch if you can too (can make maybe 20-30+ cents an hour extra if you're good).

I'm a tall average looking white male with a lot of savings and want to move to the Philippines. How can I make money there? I don't care if it's morally right or not, but I'd prefer to stay legal. Those people are pretty much all poor. Do the Philippines have life insurance? I was thinking of starting one of those life settlement companies buying people's policies for real cheap and cashing out when they die.

If I were in your situation, I'd try to freelance it online. Doing small scut programming work for $30-50 a pop might not seem like much, but it'd blow anything else out of the water.
>>
>>1499342
Become a "fixer" for other white males looking to emigrate. You use your local knowledge and connections to get things done. You tell them what forms they need to fill in, who they need to bribe or what laws they need to obey. Warn them of local scams.

You could run classes on "culture clash" little things they need to know.

And they pay for the privilege.
You could probably also earn commission by hooking up with local traders and businesses and driving customers to them.
>>
>>1499355

I know Java and Python, but was never confident enough in my skills to freelance. I mostly made Minecraft mods when I was younger and applications for GNU/Linux.

I majored in accounting, wound up becoming an auditor for DoD. the money is great but its boring, mind numbing work that makes me want to blow my brains out every day. but, I'll be able to retire in 17 years with a pension and I already have over 100k in my TSP (govt version of a 401k), so maybe life will be worth living when I'm 50.

if you care more about now, though, I wouldn't recommend it

The way Crypto tends to work is that there is usually a 'big new coin' that presents something new to the crypto world.

Examples of this are:
Bitcoin itself, Ethereum, XMR, FLDC (maybe).

These are the leaders of the pack.

Bitcoin was the first, Ethereum first presented the idea of a world computer and XMR solved bitcoins anonymity problem while also being 'selected' as the chosen currency for darknets.

Once a 'major' coin steps in, in a few weeks/months, 'shitcoins' pop up. The shitcoin is a 'copy-cat' of the major coin. It promises similar goals, but usually with a more meme-y name. It usually offers no new actual technology.

Examples of this are:

Bitcoin-> Litecoin, Dogecoin, Trumpcoin,

Ethereum- > ETC

XMR -> Blackcoin, Shadowcoin etc.

FLDC -> CURE coin

Notice the pattern is almost always the same. A big 'new' idea. followed by a copy-cats with an ALWAYS more 'meme-like' name.

The pattern is very easy to spot. The only coin worth buying and holding long term are usually the 'leaders' of the pack. The 'shitcoins' are generally spawned for the sole purpose of pumping and dumping riding off the 'leader-coins' success.

ETC is a bit of a special case because it didn't just promise a more meme-y name, it also promised some intangible 'purity' proposal. Despite this though, it still is in the shitcoin category and thus it's prime use was to pump and dump.

The current price you're seeing is held up entirely by people who don't know the pattern described above, despite seeing it repeat itself in the crypto market since 2013. These are the bag holders, or the people that think "ETC will go up again, it's only a matter of time".

This isn't the case. ETC was a spectacular pump and dump. The best pump and dumps ride some 'half-baked' fundamental news.

In ETC's case it was the concept of 'purity'. Most coins like SDC or BLK don't have the luxury of the faux-fundamentals, and so only manage very small pumps by virtue of their more meme-like name.

Hey /biz/.
I dropped out of my econ bach in a Japanese Uni and went home to my home country. I left with very basic economic and financial knowledge, but impecable language skills and cultural insight.
I'm aware that very few foreigners speak and read as fluently as I do and I would like to capitalize on it in some way. Any pointers on what industries would be a good place to look for employment opportunities?

2 years ago I was living at my dad's house and making about $12/hr as a waiter, pretty much thinking my life was going nowhere. Now I own my own business and will make about $60k this year while working 30hr work weeks.

Never thought I'd be in this position. This board actually helped me a good bit.

As a favor, I'll send an anon who posts in this thread (with some kind of need) $50 via PayPal. Not much money, but figured it might give some of you sad pepe's some hope that you can turn things around like I did.

Feel free to AMA about the business I started and tips to get out or wage slaving.

I'm in my Junior year in Comp Sci at Uni and I pretty much need an internship this coming Summer or I'm screwed. I don't have any family or friends in the industry, so nepotism is not really an avenue for me.

Ask your professor if there is anything you can do at uni during the summer like a project or anything.

You are probably too early in the course to actually do anything, but, if you can do anything (i mean anything) to help around the uni you can write it off on your resume as summer experience.
