This spider just showed up on my porch today and I don't want/know how to handle it because that yellow pattern on its backside looks like a warning to me. But I don't know. So what the fuck is it?

It's an Argiope aurantia, literally one of the most common spiders in the civilized world that you somehow don't know about.

It's harmless.

My tarantula has escaped. I placed it in it's newer cage and then left for a double shift at work. Came home to find the cage empty.
It's only about 6 months old. It's a Red Rump that I've been raising since it was a hatching. I've never seen it climb and for about 99% of its life it seemed to just dig a hole under a log and hid. So I'm a little surprised it escaped. Likely through a small bend in the lid I hadn't noticed.
It's only been missing for a day now. I have the bedroom locked off since I have allergies and keep the place clean so the bedroom door is rarely open. I assume it's still in the room but can't find it. Tried looking in corners and under furniture. I'm going to be busy this week with work so I want to create a lure to attract it to a certain spot so I save it.

Pic of it. It's a little older now

>I want to create a lure
this is not fishing, m8

also, please be responsible and make sure your animal is not able to escape.

really, that's how you CAN start a desaster (with invasive species)

you will most likely never find it again
>>
>>2203002
It's probably outside, they can cover a lot of territory but it depends heavily on the spider how far will it go.

It's gonna be under something around 500 meters around your house.

You will never lure it, that's not something spiders do.
>>
>>2203010
>>2203015
Yeah I didn't think a lure world work since most of the time it just kind of did it's own thing regardless. I heard some people suggest putting a hide and some water out for it but it's been my experience it's never been attracted towards it. I tried it anyways just in case
I just feel helpless in finding it since I'm not home that often now

Hey /an/. You may remember me. I own a small dog, live with my parents, and my mom doesn't allow me to "walk" my dog and insists that I should always put my dog in a stroller when taking him outside.

So over the pasts few months, I've been secretly taking my dog to the dog park every now and then. I've noticed that my dog tends to walk away when other dogs approach him. Will my dog learn to "socialize" with other dogs in the future?

When I take him to the dog park, he often defecates as soon as he arrives. Is this a sign of anxiety?

Thanks for replying.

I actually do remember your thread.

The defecation could be stress, or he could like pooping and peeing outside. If I remember, you said he used doggy pads. Believe it or not, dogs do have a substrate preference where they take care of business. So you'd need to monitor him to see if he looks stressed out exploring, or seems to be enjoying himself.
>>
find him a nice spot he enjoys to shit, take him there to shit everytime he needs to.
i remember you are old enough to decide these things yourself and not be ruled by your mother

This thread is for beginners, amateurs and for professional breeders.
Here you can share your experience with other beetle enthusiasts, discuss the hobby, ask ( me ) questions or get advice.

I will try my best to answer every question and give advice to the beginners of the hobby, or to those who are interested in it and would like to inform themselves.

Saw your last thread, very informative. I myself saw these videos by Ambuehl and also wanted to get into the hobby, but the short lifespan as a fully developed bug for most species was kind of a drawback for me. Is there something bug-like out their that lives beyon 1.5 years as a bug? I've heard good things about Hemiptera/Heteroptera as an order but haven't found much in terms of care.
>>
To start things up:

The attached picture is of Hirofumi Kawano and the beetle sitting on his hand is a "hercules beetle" ( Latin/scientific name: Dynastes hercules hercules ) from the world wide known Hiroka Strain.
Mr. Kawano bred the biggest ever recorded Dynastes hercules hercules in the world in the year 2014. The beetle was exactly 171mm long and was the biggest "Hercules beetle" ever to be bred back in 2014.

But how did he accomplished that ?
Well, it required a lot of time, discipline and willpower.
Mr. Kawano bred Dynastes hercules hercules selectively over ten years, he always picked the biggest beetles for the next generation. So he accomplished his own personal strain of giant "hercules beetle", today widely known as the Hiroka Strain.
He also perfected the food ( substrate ) for the larvae. He makes his own substrate with a big mixer, but the exact recipe as well as the ingredients are, of course, a big secret, since Mr. Kawano still wants to be the world best breeder of Dynastes hercules hercules.
And if course he makes money with it, big time.

Have you ever experimented with live supplements for extra protein? When I had some Goliathus as a kid I gave them waxworm larvae/pupae and mealworm pupae, after it was suggested that they had specialised forearms for grabbing things. Seemed to work pretty well, but I was wondering if Dynastinae etc. would make use of livefood too?

So I found one of these outside my work with some of its tail feathers gone. I put a thing on Craigslist for "found bird", got an old dog cage out and put a blanket over it and lights off since it's night time and it's kinda stressed out.

The thing is, it won't stop crying. I've talked to it, whistled, etc. But it won't fucking shut up. It keeps chirping and chirping. Wat do?

have you given it water? maybe some fruit and seeds? I don't know how well it'll do in a dog crate, it may need a perch of some sort to be able to sleep. I hope you can find the owner anon, if not what do you plan on doing with it?

jam a broomstick or etc through the holes in the cage all the way through to act like a perch.

I might be adopting a cat soon, and it will be the first time I own a pet. Probably younger than 6 months.
It would be on a shared flat.

Advice for a first time owner? Any links, youtube channels, whatever?

It's a cat. Not much to do. Show it to its litter box (or boxes, depending on the size of your place), give it a really nice, high quality food, and leave it alone for as long as it needs to get used to the environment. Basically, for the first week or two, just clean the box and leave out food. Every cat is different: some it will take zero time for them to think they own the place, others it will take a few weeks.

Oh, and you are going to see its asshole a lot, as a cat walks about with its tail straight in the air when it is happy and content. It will be weirdly uncomfortable at first, but you'll get used to it.
>>
>>2202431
Get used to your house smelling like shit for the rest of your life.
>>
Not all cats are the same. You can get a shitty cat. You don't know. Dont let it ruin your experience with cats. I never had a bad cat, but oh boy do personalities change drastically from kitten to adult. If this is your first cat ever I'd suggest adopting an adult cat. I've hand raised many kittens. None of them were shits but the change is very drastic. An adult will have a set in personalities. With kittens you don't really know what you may get.

Also clean the litter box often. This is very important, otherwise it will smell terrible or encourage it to shit on other things because they want to do that somewhere clean.

Probably would have been better suited for /plant/ general but oh well.

Completely agree, gardening and rearing plants is a quintessential therapeutic hobby, hence why so many grannies and retiredfags do it. The idea of gradual growth towards goals really seems to help when there's not much going on in life, and the achievement of fruit/produce/flowers at the end helps put a timescale to things. Shit is great for sad lonely people, and plants usually don't need the devout attention and parent status that animals do.

What's /an/'s opinion on e-collars? Can they be useful in hard to train dogs? I've been thinking about purchasing one that has beeping/vibration modes as well.

Yes, they work, just make sure there is an adjustment for the level of shock and read guides carefully on how to use them. Also, consistency is really important or it's just gonna be abusive. If it's not consistent, they won't make a connection.

That said, the one I used was a pain in the ass because the prongs would always lose skin contact after an hour. The means they shock wouldn't happen when I needed it. Which meant inconsistency. So I stopped using it. It was going to do more harm than good.
>>
>>2201578
I want to use it for out door/off leash training so consistency is my goal for sure. And we're having issues with surfing the counter for food. She knows its wrong and so only does it when she thinks we can't see.

Any good guides out there you'd recommend? In addition, she's fairly long haired so is that likely to interfere with the connection to skin?
>>
I watch a golden retriever for a family that had their dog trained on them for when they take her off leash to aid in recall (she barely needs it but it's good to have).
Their method is call the dog, if no response: beep the collar. It's really good for dogs that are already trained to be on an electric fence because they know that BEEP BEEP means they're doing something wrong.
I feel like it would be hard to use them to train a dog against counter surfing given how hard it would be to be consistent with them.
