So a friend was at work when the pest control guy found pic related behind the vending machine in the breakroom. Coworker said she saw something that color yesterday behind the machine, so he had been there for awhile. Pest guy was a total douchebag- friend asked what he was going to do with it and he said "I'm going to take it home and show my kids, then throw it away", he was even poking it and saying " look, it's still alive".
So friend took it away from him and called me up.
I did a quick internet search and found that vegetable oil will release animals from the traps- so I headed over to meet of iend after work.

Poor guy. Yes, vegetable or mineral oil will do the trick. Just go very slow and gentle with it.

So I grabbed a bottle of cheap canola oil on the way. Put the trap on the shower in case he got freed quickly and made a break for it. I slowly dribbled the oil over him, trying to stay away from his head so he didn't ingest too much or drown. I took a small flat blade screwdriver and gently pried up his tail. He was trying to move of course and I quickly saw that he was working himself free, so I only prodded him after that to get him to move. After about 1/3 of his body was freed he figured out that his escape was imminent and he continued to work his body free. Afterwards he flexed his jaw quite a few times, he was unable to close it while on the sticky trap. He did spaz a little afterwards, but I'm pretty sure it was just the canola oil in his mouth that he was very unsure about.
Granted this is only a rat snake, the most common snake in my area, but I still thought it was worth the effort.

I've already pulled 3 adults out of friends chicken coup and let them go out at my place. I'm getting quite a colony going. Here's the little guy all happy and free on a wood pile down by my creek, far away from roads or people.
It's hatching season, I expect to find alot of rat, corn and King snakes in the next couple weeks.

I'm having an argument with a friend about a mutual friends dog. I say she's abusing it, she says she isn't. She says her dog is a german shepherd mutt, but told our mutual friend she's "low content coyote" but she didnt want other people to know. I've met the dog once and it just warily paces around you and growls if you get too close to it or its owner. The owner claimed she's just fearful and it's best to act like she doesn't exist. When i looked the dog in its eyes it started showing its teeth and when chastized by its owner the dog pissed itself from across the room. Are these signs of neglect or a low content hybrid?

Both.
>>

That's signs of an incredibly fearful dog. Not necessarily abused or neglected, but definitely fearful.

With the right care, even hybrid dogs can be decent companions. You can find people who have confirmed wolf content dogs and coyote content dogs that blog about doing dumb dog shit. Being a hybrid alone is no excuse.

It also puts its ears flat back and climbs all over her lap for attention while squeeling in her snapchats. The dog is huge and a shes 100 pounds tops. She feeds it raw which makes them more aggressive and it all just seems like a bad idea to me. Supposedly she takes it on bike rides from midnight until morning but that doesnt sound like enough activity to me desu

I've been seeing a lot of baby snakes recently where I live in Florida, and I found one close enough to scoop up today. I identified it as an extremely young black racer. Having kept adult, wild-caught racers before (never for more than a month at a time), I've learned how nervous and bitey they can be (bleeds a lot, teeth pointing inward). I want to at least help it get a decent start in life so I have some additional pest control, and I might even tame and keep it. Thoughts? Any herpfags would be appreciated.

Pic related, looks just like the little guy.

Honestly racers don't make good pets.
They're too "high strung".
I have some on my property- they don't just roam around, they'll find a burrow to call their own and stay around if theres food.

The problem with "giving it a good start in life" by keeping it and feeding it for awhile is that this is the time it needs to learn how to hunt. By providing food to it you're taking away that necessity and can unintentionally hinder its future abilities.

The best thing you can do is provide a place somewhere around your home where it can be safe and secure, where you won't disturb it.
If your yard looks like a manicured golf course, it won't stick around no matter how much food is there.

I've seen a lot of threads mentioning off the leash walking for dogs.

lol what a faget you are.
Best thing to do is stay calm and comfy. Tensing up / running away increases your chances of getting bitten / chased by 500%

only time I was genuinely scared of a dog, or dogs, rather, it was 2 big fucking big and angry guard dogs at a junkyard that I needed to walk along for about 50 meters.
it was a hot day and they sounded aggressive as fuck. they kept charging the fence where I was walking and I was seriously scared it might break and they would get out.

I mean, one dog, no matter how mean and tough and scary, you can probably survive an attack. They are much smaller after all. But two amped up aggressive fuckers like that charging you and you will be in a world of hurt

Hey /an/, I have a really shitty problem.

I've had a cockatiel for a year, all was going well between us but at some point he started being really noisy, annoying and VERY dependent. I thought he needed a birb friend so I got another.

Everything went downhill from there.

I've got the new one for about 3 months and I haven't been able to tame it. My first bird has gotten WAY louder and in turn makes the new bird loud as fuck as well.

For two weeks I have seriously thought about wringing their neck or choking them but that's just too fucking cruel man. For some reason I get really, really sad about selling my first bird as well. The new one I frankly just don't care about to be honest. Don't get me wrong they both still get all the care they need.

If I was a 1000% sure that they got a new owner that was really good to them I would sell them but I just get wet eyes thinking about selling them to a stranger that might abuse them.

What do I do in this situation? I'm actually fucking crying.

>>2205377
Why did you get a bird if you can't handle a high maintenance animal that makes some noise? You say you're worried about them ending up with a bad owner, but it sounds like you're one of those bad owners.

Make sure they are allowed out of the cage for AT LEAST an hour at a time. My tiels like to sit out on the patio a lot, too.
>>
>>2205393
Like I said, they get all the care and attention they need. They have a schedule of when they can go out of the cage, I (try to) teach them tricks, I give them all sorts of food and they get enough sunlight and fresh air daily etc. etc.

But they STILL keep squawking for hours on end and lately they're squawking as loud as possible at 7 in the morning, I've changed the position of the cage and even put them in seperate cages but to no avail.

It's the fact that I'm out of options and it feels like this shit is just worsening my mental health. I mean I was actually thinking of getting rid of them by killing them because I get sad when I think about selling MY birds to someone that, like you said, ''gets a bird if you can't handle a high maintenance animal that makes some noise?''
>>
>>2205405
>is sad about the thought of giving birds to someone who can't handle birds, when you yourself cannot handle birds

It's just pretty upsetting to see that you want them dead over them just being birds. They're not doing anything wrong; they're just birds. My tiels only ever get loud when they're bored and it ceases when I let them out, but not all birds are like that. Birds are loud, birds are needy. The fact that you think death is better for them than a shot at a decent owner is pretty fucking sad. I'd say you need to offer them more stimulation but you seem convinced that they're getting enough.

Maybe try looking for a bird sanctuary in your area. I volunteer at one and we take in a lot of birds from owners who didn't know what they were getting themselves into; then we adopt them out after doing interviews and home checks.

>One day she's taking out the trash
>I hear a shriek
>Soon after the sound of a shovel being slung across pavement
>Run out thinking that she's being robbed
>Only to find her haphazardly stabbing at a blue-tailed skink
>Run over to her and take the shovel
>She urges me to kill the poor thing immediately
>Take a look at the lizard
>See one of his legs cut off, a fat piece of his tail elsewhere
>His main body helplessly scurrying about
>Not to mention that he's obviously in a lot of pain from the loss of his limbs
>Think to myself that this creature of God was not even a threat, and she says she found it near the trash can
>Steady my jabbing arm with the shovel in hand anyways since I'm a cuck
>As if in one of my Japanese animes, I direct the force guiding the shovel between the head and body of the lizard, aiming just exactly for the nape
>kablam, the deed has been done. And humanely, I hope.
>Get a clean cut in, notice that his head and body wriggle momentarily afterwards, but all motion then ceases. He has obviously lost consciousness. This kills the lizard.
>Go in the house to retrieve gloves and a bag to dispose of him with
>Upon my return, I find my girlfriend stepping on his head and body to "make sure she's dead"
>Fuckingcunt.jpg but she's got great t&a so I didn't say anything
>Finish it all by gathering the limbs, body, and head of the lizard and dumping them in the trash on my lonesome

I hope that the decapitation really did kill him instantly. It's kinda weighing down on my conscious that he may have suffered intensely from it.

They also lack nitrogen, and you had this tiny white flies probably.

I have a question for you /an/.

How smart are jumping spiders?

Given the amount of research done on bug intelligence, their capacity to feel emotions, learn from experience and adapt to different situations.

I have two different species that I caught a couple of months ago, they recognize me, they can make choices.

Once you see their mating rituals, you'll notice that the species evolved to favor creativity and intelligence, making them more intelligent with every generation.

Obligatory Sir Attenborough documentary.

About as intelligent as an invertebrate that size can get probably, they have an amazingly efficient visual system and spatial recognition, complex and adaptable behaviour patterns and even limited learning abilities. No abstract thought or future planning of course but they dont need that.
>>
>>2205383
Making a web isn't future planning?

One thing my jumping spiders do, when it's not hungry and I give it a fly.

She bites it, but it doesn't kill it, instead it paralize the fly and let it hanging, I have seen flies hanging alive for days, until it finally eats them, and even tortures them a little, poking the strand of silk and making the fly circle around while hanging, to see if it's still alive.

I have a decent pair of 8x40 binoculars and am thinking of getting a magnifying glass for watching insects.
Do you guys have any suggestions on what to buy? Should it have a second tiny glass with much higher magnification (like pic related) or is that a useless gimmick like zoom binos?

I mostly want to watch tiny ant-size thingies.
