Ok I hate to be that guy that posts the shittiest picture to be used as identification but I lost sight of this guy. I've never seen a spider like this in my home, mostly common house spiders. He had a dark head and butt and long "feelers" but much lighter legs. Could it be a running spider? Southern ontario.

But come the fuck on, what is that picture? Like, Hentzia sp., maybe? The body shape seems wrong but the rest of the description fits.

I pocket anything that could be magic. I'm very jelly of your tooth stone. Maybe it activates some door in a mountain, or brings a statue to life. Maybe it can lead you to treasure, ward off goblins or holds the spirit of an ancient chieftain.

I have a lot of magic stones, and dote on my treasures often. My friends tease me and call me names, but they dont know how much fun someone can have with a bag of stones. All you need is hope and imagination, which is the only way I get anything anyways. That's the magic.

Are there any fungi that can tense their tendrils?
It'd be cool if their were small dirt creatures which lumbred around powered by a network of fungi, which effectively ate their own bodies.

There's no vets in my area, and my turtle eats a lot of protein. Can't get her to eat any vegetables yet but I noticed her shell keeps chipping and leaving these white patches, what do you think?

Yes but iguana is too small to tell its sex yet.

A reminder to look after Goldfish well, and why fish bowls are F.O.E.S:

F- Filtration. In a bowl there is no room for filtration, and goldfish are big waste producers that require powerful filtration.

O-oxygen. The round shape of bowls means that they have very little surface area compared to their volume. This causes a lack of oxygen, and goldfish require a lot of oxygen in the water.

E- Ethics. Would you keep a dog in a room the size of a small bathroom its entire life? No? Then why keep a goldfish in a tiny bowl where it is unable to do any of its natural behaviors?

S- Space. Goldfish are not small fish! They may start out small, but they grow very big very fast! Such a big fish requires a lot of space.

Please let us start looking after one of the worst kept pets on the planet and start giving all types of goldfish the happier, healthier life that they have deserved for so long. Thank-you!

Great thread OP, I agree.

By the way, this is unrelated and I don't mean to hijack your thread, but your use of "F.O.E.S." reminded me of this great video game series called Etrian Odyssey. The mini-bosses in that games are called FOEs, but I forgot what that stands for in the game.

Anyway, yeah. I love goldfish and I wish people understood that they cannot live well in bowls.

I already added a part about Bettas/Goldfish or fish in general in bowls to the /aq/ faq. I don't really get why it's still advertised. Goldfish are cheap, yeah, but so are hamsters, but people don't keep hamsters in such horrid conditions or at least not on that scale.

I'm not even a PETA-fag, but I don't see why advertising bowls for anything but inverts shouldn't be banned or regulated in some way. But its not a one sided problem. Pet-Keepers, Pet-Stores, Pet-Product Manufacturers are all involved and need to step up their game.

Whenever I see someone on /an/ or anywhere else for that matter, that still uses fish bowls for fish, I try to politely tell them, what they could do to improve the life quality of their fish. Coming off condescending and calling those people names doesn't really help. For all intents and purposes, most novice fishkeepers fall for that advertising/cultural icon of fish in bowls and just go with it, without being warned by pet store staff or doing research, so they didn't actively wish to harm their fish and do a dumb thing without knowing it.

I worked in the pet department of a garden centre for a while. I didnt deal with fish, but I frequently found myself telling people how much SPACE a singular goldfish needed.... and they all promptly ignored me.

I like them. I also met someone who REALLY likes them.

>work for a company that rents cabins and rooms
>boring day so i'm just helping out where i can and go to deliver some things to one of the renters in a cabin
>asking how their stay is going
>"everythings great! but we did find an ant in here! there he is"
>points to an ant on the floor and two of her friends that she brought with her just laying on the floor building obstecles for it out of random shit from their purses
>offer to bring an ant trap in case there was more
>"NO! I've named him Ant-ony."
>salute him and go on my way

As autistic as it seemed it was pretty funny.

Since I live in a flat, they don't bother me at all. They're nice to stop and look at when taking a walk. It's especially fun when you spot a group tending to aphids.

Nuptial flight season is pretty annoying, since it's pretty hard not to step on the queens by mistake when they land everywhere, but it's still pretty nice to witness, especially when it's carpenter ant queens.

So I have a pretty major ant problem. My landlord doesn't seem to care, so I'm taking it into my own hands.

My apartment has a large wooden deck, which is essentially crawling with ants. I can't find a single bed, so I don't know where the source is. I was pretty much ignoring them until they actually started popping up in my bathroom, so I need them out.

Any suggestions? Like I said, I can't find a source, or even just a regular route they use...they're just all over the place.

home depot sells a poison-gel that theyre attracted to. They will pick it up and take it to their nest. Some that even ate it end up dying on the way to the source. We have not had a sight of a single ant in YEARS

Wait for it to rain, then clean where they were walking inside. They'll lose the scent and stop coming.

Let's take a break from outside and feral cat debating and talk about feral dogs. Most anons probably don't live in areas where they are common sight (neither do I) but I find them fascinating and sad at the same time.

No Dingos allowed.

I was out on a walk the other day (currently nodoggo) and saw what looked like a young lab mix out on the sidewalk, wearing a collar. Looked pretty agitated, kept walking back and forth across the street (thanfully carless sidestreet).
I whistled and clucked a few times and she took a few steps over, then went back to pacing.
Managed to get close without spooking her, checked the collar. Turned out the address was she was pacing in front of. Knocked on the door to let an old, but surprisingly spry, old lady know that her dog had gotten out. She thanked me and complained about this one bein a real escape artist, then brought the dog inside.

Hello /an/ I am thinking if getting a dog. Are newfoundland's good for first time owners?

I got one laying right here next to me, 6 months old, 60 pounds, straight from newfoundland. And lemme tell you a few thing I learned over the last couple months.

1) These guys can eat FOREVER, so never over feed your dog. I gave my dogs 5 cups instead of the 3 cups he needs, threw it all up on my floor.

2) It's an outdoor dog, so let it be outside more than inside. They generally like cool conditions, mine goes under the deck when its hotter out.

3) They chew everything, so teach it not to chew anything...

4) and lastly, they LOVE to swim, so bringing them to the beach is a great idea.

It might seem a little overwhelming at first, but soon he will calm down and be a fantastic dog!

Best of luck to you.

Hey, /an/ I've got a dilemma here.

My parents got a 3 Caucasian ShepherdX (I'm thinking it's crossed with a Sarplaninac) a couple of months back. They were originally just going to pick up one of it's puppies (which is half St. Bernard) but the breeder was new to breeding and the Cacausian had a bad infection in her nipples. The breeder was lost on what to do with her. My parents took the bitch and her puppy. They rid her of her infection.

Most of the time, the dog is calm and well behaved. There are, however, some things that have me worried. My parents other dog got pissed off at her puppy and warned it off a few days ago. The bitch did not take this lightly, she grabbed the dog by the scruff of the neck and shook it violently, likely trying to kill it. My father calmed her down and the victim dog is ok.

She has also issued some random warning growls to my adult brother. He lives with my parents. She'll do it every so often around night-time when he happens upon her.

She will usually listen, but quite often when she's outside she will ignore people's calls.
As an experienced dog owner I see these signs as quite worrying of such a powerful dog.

>Protecting her pup
The fact that there was no warning from her, just immediately snapped and went for a kill.

>Warning growls
I believe this means that she sees herself as dominant over at least one house-hold member.
(My 8 year old nephew also lives with my parents, this especially has me worried of the possibility of her seeing herself as dominant over him)

>Not listening when called
Not quite as worrying, but I believe any dog that massive should be 100% obedient as this could lead to further issues.

I have told them a few times that they need to get rid of this dog or bring it in for further dominance training but they've shrugged off my suggestions as they are enamored with the dog. I think they are being quite stupid about this.

Any opinions on this?

(Pic is not her, by the way)

Sounds like your typical untrained, unsocialized, prone to aggression dog.
>>
>>2196559
That's the thing. The dog is usually great with people it knows, and when properly greeted by new people she's good with them. She also listens to most orders, although she chooses not to listen sometimes (I always view this as a slippery slope, 100% obedience I believe is key to maintaining alpha status.

She is also calm most of the time, and will usually give dogs a warning if they over-step their bounds. It was only the one time so far that she did anything past growling.

With a dog this fucking large, though, I believe that even if very uncommon, these activities are absolutely problematic.

>dominant

>>2196570

It's okay Anon, just beat up the dog. That's what you want to do anyway.
