What do you think about the practice of staging or conditioned shooting in wildlife documentaries? I always wonder why certain scenes from BBC/NatGeo can look a bit too good to be true.

Fine by me, I don't see the animals complaining
>>

Pic related is justified. Filming inside a Polar Bear den is basically impossible.

I think OP's worry is understandable if we are talking about predation sequence where sometime documentary makers somehow manage to get said footage with such perfect timing/angle.
>>
I don't watch Planet Earth to watch some Britbong take 45 hours to find a weird shrew to record for 3 seconds before it notices and fucks off.

I watch Planet Earth to watch a weird shrew eat bugs.

Why is it that if you express the slightest sympathy for an animal getting fucked over, you'll have one million faggots coming up to you with:

>it's nature brah
>fittest survive brah
>natural selection brah

NO SHIT ASSWIPE.
It's really fucking annoying, why are people doing this? Are they trying to be edgy?

I can't be the only one who has noticed this.

I'd blame nature documentaries for developing that kind of mentality over the fragile minds of people in order to justify the injustice of the animal world. You get to see everytime how the big mean wolf merciless executes the defenseless fox that just wanted to get some food. Or that snake killing some drugged rodent. Or how a pack of hyenas tear apart a buffalo's balls and eat it alive.
>>
>>2200234
Way to miss the point.
>>
>>2200227
People don't even do it for actual natural processes and predation, if you've seen some of the threads lately you'll have noticed various anons crawling out of their holes to defend trophy hunting, Mexican-related dog abuse, Flamingo-throwing etc., shit that no rational person would aggressively argue to justify. It's almost as if it's become counter-cultural to hate animals and the natural world, so an animals and nature board appears to be a bountiful playground for these edgy faggots to experiment in.

My sister gave me a pit bull puppy. How do I train her? Any tips on taking care of her? I have no idea what I'm doing. Please help.
21 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
There as been too many 'help my dog lol' threads that at this point - hire a trainer. Just skip all the shit, and go straight into a professional and enjoy your dog.
>>
>>2200030
Start by taking it to the bathtub, filling it up, and then putting the dog's face in it and holding it there.
Then you can feel good about yourself knowing you rid the world of another worthless monster
>>
>>2200030
Do you even know if the puppy comes from a reputable breeder? If so you are off to a good start. Now you have to really worry about training it. I really hope you don't have any kids though.

Fuckin bros, my man. Never smush em, try to put them outside at the most. Usually just let em be
>>
Hated them until I decided to raise a tarantula as a pet. Gained much more respect for their calm nature and uniqueness
>>
>>2199980

Depends on species. Jumping spiders and orb weavers I always leave alone. I try to protect them from the larger brown ones that are spooky and raid their webs. Brown ones go outside if I can manage or smoosh if they're resisting.

So I got a pleco fish from petsmart earlier today. Its in a 20 gallon tank right now. I know that they can get pretty large, but I thought this was rare to see. Its about 1.5 inches, should I be worried?
11 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
There's many different pleco species, over 500 almost. They can range from 1.5 inches to 1.5 foot in length.

Since what's commonly traded is the bristlenose pleco, aka ancistrus, you are lucky. But if you got a sailfin pleco, you need a giant size tank.

Is that pleco in the pic yours? Looks like a bristlenose to me.

They prefer higher temperatures, wood to chew on and oxygen in the water. You can also feed them.dead leaflitter and boiled cucumber, Zucchini or peppers. They dig veggies.
>>
>>2199975
The one in the picture isnt mine. However mine does look very similar. Its black with very faint spots on it.
>>
You almost definitely have a common pleco. They on average get somewhere between 18 inches and two feet. They can get bigger, but thats rare.

Hey there,

I have a question about dog training.

This is my first dog, a Corgi & Jack Russel mix I've made a lot of progress, little dude goes with me pretty much everywhere, listens, plays well with people and other dogs, even responds after he darts for squirrels.

The one thing I can't seem to get a handle on is this greeting bark he has. It's sharp, short, and he uses it every time he becomes aware of another dog or person. Otherwise he's pretty quiet. I currently live in a fairly busy household, so the bark is problematic right now, and something I just generally would like to train out.

I know I could do it with a shock collar, but I've gotten this far with just positive training, and would like to continue. How do you stop a behavior like that w/o negative reinforcement? If it's not possible then I'll concede to using a collar. Any ideas?

You have no idea mang
>>
That's a energy mix right there. Some dogs bark way more naturally and there is no training them out of it. Negative reinforcement and pain aside, a school collar scares and confuses the fucking shit out of dogs. Barking dogs is fucking annoying. My own dog does it, just goes with her breed. Tell her to shutup or stop and ahe will IF someone is around to tell her too. But she only barks at cars pulling in our driveway, people knocking or ringing the doorbell, etc. She is warning us of unfamiliar things. This is a dog saying something is going on and people need to know. She has caught two people fucking around our yard, one just setting fires behind our fence. She isn't annoying unless on the off chance someone isn't home, then she will never shut the fuck up.
But aside from telling her to quiet we have had a lot of success with just shaking a can of pennies. She hates the noise and it helped a lot to only have her bark shortly rather than forever. Shake the can, tell her to stop, and she stopped when she was told too to the point all we have to do is tell her to stop.

Unless this is annoying neighbors then its just annoying to you and you should work around it, and the barking may never stop. Its natural for dogs. This is there way of communicating. I considered citrus sprays myself but having them go off even when a dog yawns is concerning. Still, i think it might be better to look into if it's THAT much of a problem rather than a shock collar. What dogs I've met with shock collars are confused and anxious, and not sure how to deal with situations. They pace, pant and act weird, even so much as showing them the collar seems to give them anxiety.

I fucking hate all the animals we have here in Florida.

There was a gator in my back yard a month ago that I had to call animal control to have it removed. This happens almost every fucking year.

Today no one at my university could get out of the parking garage because there were two stupid muscovy ducks fighting by the exit of the garage.

I hate the ugly FL ducks. And the worst part is so many of them are used to people feeding them and are relentless.

>pull into parking spot near lake I want to fish at
>hear rustling in the bushes a few feet away
>Mr Ibis is scoping me out and creeping closer and closer
>ehh, those birds are straight, fuck the ducks
>give Mr Ibis a nightcrawler
>seconds later goddamn ducks surround me

Mallards are the superior duck. At least there are no Canadian Geese. Those things are cunts.

It's unbelievable how literally no one gives a shit about Proapteryx.

One would think a flying proto-kiwi would have some sort of notability, but no, it's obscure among even paleontologist circles.

Paraded this commission today but still nobody cares.

I need help. I have a 1 year old male siberian husky and he's really disobedient. He marks his territory everywhere, destroys/chews a lot of things and no matter how much i punish him it makes no difference. My dad said if he kept like this til september next year he will throw him away. How do i train him?
148 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Is he getting enough exercise? Is he potty trained? Neutered? Positive reinforcement is better than punishing.
>>
First, stop punishing. Punishing works on some dogs, but other dogs are either too smart or too dumb for it to work on. Research and try different training techniques.

Two, how much exercise does he gets? Destructive is often directly correlated to a lack of stimulation (boredom), especially in an ultra-high energy breed like a husky.

>my shittier neighbor let's his unfixed tom cat wander outdoors.
>no telling how many kittens have been born and died from his tom
>"mind ur own business, homie" was his response when i confronted him after his tom came marching down the block with a bloody, screaming kitten. It probably died
>goes out of its way to attack the only other owned "outdoor" cat who's fixed and old.
This guy is the epitome of people that shouldn't own pets but because his tom shits up the place everywhere but at his home I can't do anything from a legal standpoint.
So my plan is to attract as many outdoor and feral cats to this guys home as possible but it can't be in an obvious way like leaving food out.
Are there any effective but subtle ways to attract a fair deal of cats?
85 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Find an zone where cats can hide, and put food there. If its close to that guy's house, his cat should eventually bring some other cats to his house.
>>
>>2199568
It's simple. Feed his cat some poisoned food, like rat poison or something.
Or give it something with razor blades in it. It will eat it and shred its throat and insides and die.

Nothing of value will be lost. So just find a way to kill it

bring his cat to a TNR, they cut off a portion of it's ear after it's fixed. It will be funny, he'll probably get his panties in a knot about it

Why is it that whenever dogs taste blood, they do that thing with their lower jaw where it moves up and down, as if their teeth were chattering? Is this a reflex? Or maybe it's just my dog?
