>Mexican family comes into store
>Mother In Prada, full of plastic
>Youngest daughter swinging around and squeezing a stuffed toy
>Two boys running around causing havoc
>Father says something fast and low to me
>Can't understand, ask him to repeat
>Says the same shit faster and louder
>Realize he is speaking Spanish
>'...can you please speak English?'
>Says 'shoot dog here?'
>Stare at him for a second
>'are you asking for euthanasia services?'
>He gets very mad and yells louder 'SHOOT FOR DOG?!?'
>'You mean shots. Like a vaccine?'
>He tosses a pamphlet at me
>It's a pamphlet at the pet store in the mall for recording vaccines
>The dog needs its distemper shot at 7 weeks, it isn't even 7 weeks old yet, no vaccines (including bordetella) at all yet
>I explained our costs here for said shots an we don't do free vaccines
>He shakes his head 'FREE shot'
>Told him about the vet across the plaza that does the shots for a good price
>'no too much money'
>Tell him about the local shelter that does free vaccines
>'too far'
Keep in mind this dog cost $2,600 according to the pamphlet he showed me
>Last resort tell him about an outreach program that drives a truck around for vaccines to low income families, but they would need proof of assistance or last two pay stubs
>He is looking frustrated and getting angry at me
>While he is yelling in Spanish i realize the daughter is swinging a live fucking dog around
>No leash, no collar, no older than 5-6 weeks
>So stiff it looked like it went through rigamortis, it's eyes barely blinking and looked glazed (thousand yard stare)
>Coworker drops in to talk about how expensive puppies are and how big of a commitment try are and things to know
>Man obviously doesn't give a fuck but stays for free shoots
>Hear coworker talk about how her puppy had to go to the vet
>Mexican says, 'no no, no vet. Dog get sick, she gets better or die. Vet too many money'

Can we have a 'why' pet owners thread?

These cages lasted all of a day before being utterly destroyed, by the way.

They're all in temporary indoor cages right now because of the cold weather, but I'm gonna do another big themed thing when they go back out.

Hey /an/

So I recently got back from a weekend of dropping off a sibling at college; I picked up my dog from the daycare we send her to, however I noticed that she was limping when we got home.

Now, this daycare we send her to is actually out of a persons house. She essentially has the whole first floor of her house as well as a fenced-in backyard available to the dogs; we've had some minor issues before (the woman keeping a bag of food, or allowing our dog to chew through her harness--keep in mind, I don't think my dog chewed through her harness, as she never has before. I think another dog did, and she blamed it on ours, but I digress), but nothing where I thought my dog was hurt. The bottom line is, this woman has about 5-8 dogs in her houses running around regularly, and I think one of them might have injured my dog.

When I look at my dogs paw it doesn't necessarily seem swollen; theres no blood, and she's not whining, but she *is* limping. On top of that, he one paw (when bent back) stops at a point; with my dog, hers goes all the way back and touches her leg. Again, I was very gentle with my dog and wanted to check the range of motion in her paw.

I plan on taking her to the vet tomorrow, as all the vets around us are closed today. In the mean time, any idea on what might be wrong with her paw? Thanks /an/

Pic related, my dog.

How old is she?
Keep in mind dogs can sprain just as easily as us. My one dog is on the older side but has tons of energy so I have to actively prevent her from leaping out of the car or off the porch or she may limp for a day or few. Our younger dog has also sprained both of her front paws(separate times) by being a general goofy idiot having a blast running around other dogs.

This could easily just be a little accident that could happen at any time, just unfortunately happened at a place you may have already been wary about. I'd be mad as fuck about the dog food, though. 8 dogs is also a little much for assumingly one person. I don't know her or anything but I don't think she did it, and I don't see how another dog would directly cause it. She could have just jumped or moved the wrong way.

My dog sprained one of his hind legs just out of no where. All we did was our usual walkies thevday before, and he wakes up with a limp and a painful leg.

Sprains can just kind of happen to dogs while doing normal, doggie activity.
>>
>>2202367
>>2202375
She just turned 4; she's an Aussie mix so she definitely has a lot of energy. And yeah, what sucked was that we had an entire bag of food (20+ pounds) and she kept it; that and the harness were what sparked the wary-ness desu. And I guess it could have just been her being her normal energetic self; the only thing that made me wonder if it was a dog was because she totally freaked out at the sight of not one but two dogs (Backing away, hiding behind me, tail low, etc), which she's never done before.

Regardless I think we're just gonna take her to the vet tomorrow and look for a daycare where they can watch her better. 5-8 dogs is waaaay too much for this lady, which we realized relatively quickly.

These pieces of shits are all over my backyard because my neighbor let his vine plants infest our backyard. I let my cat out roll around on the grass while i watered the plants and she got bitten by one of these. The bites turned into infected abscesses.

I know it's some form of garden spider, but which one specifically?

Does anyone here have any experience keeping insects as pets?

I'd like to keep pic related, but have no idea what the cost of purchasing one would be or even how to set up a terrarium for one, since there's barely any information out there.

Could anyone give me some general rules?

Problem is, most insects don't like long enough to be worth having as pets.

Phalacrognathus muelleri is nothing for beginners

beetles in general are not really for beginner

I would suggest starting with easy phasmids like Medauroidea extradentata, or easy mantids like Hierodula membranacea

but do your research long beforehand, as with all animals
try to get as much info as possible and allways make sure they have enough vertical space to molt

So I really want a scorpion.I have a lot of animal experience, tarantulas, lizards, snakes.
Bit and scratched plenty so that's not a problem.
I was thinking emperor. I want a bigger one but I was hoping to handle it? How do they deal with handling? And if not what's a species I could handle?
Tl;dr looking for a scorpion I can handle

I said I have experience with tarantulas, snakes, and lizards. All of which can be handled. Never said I had any experience with scorpions, hence the question.
So I'm assuming they just can't be handled at all.

Hey /an/, I'm in a shitty situation and I need advice. My landlord (who I live with) has a cat that's 13 years old with 3 paws in the grave. It's so feeble it can barely walk because it's claws get stuck in the carpet and it isn't strong enough to pull them out. It can't groom itself at all,and on top of that a few days ago it had a seizure, due to recurrent kidney infections. During this seizure it went totally blind, and now it just wanders around a few steps at a time, bumping in to things.

It's obviously not going to live much longer but it's also obviously suffering. We have to give it four medications twice a day, and I've tried to talk my landlord in to getting it put down but he refuses.

He let's it outside during the day, I've considered taking it to the vet to get it put down and never saying anything so he would just think it ran away.

Does this make me an evil person? Or should I do it to put kitty bro out of it's misery? Thanks.

He let's a blind half dead cat outside during the day..

Jesus Christ anon even if you don't take it in that thing will die within a few days. It's ultimately your landlords decision and although it sucks I'd probably just let it run it's course and not get involved.
>>
He's not your cat, so it's really not your decision to make, man.

Also if his claws get stuck in the carpet it seems like they might be grossly overgrown.

Also, 13 isn't extremely old for a cat. It's old, but not THAT old.

He shouldn't be getting kidney infections constantly...something else is going on here.

But the owner definitely shouldn't be letting a cat roam outdoors unattended...much less an elderly crippled cat.

Any Bobcat hunters going out this fall? Are there any even on this board? Let's share stories and pictures of our hunts/families/kills. I'll begin. This was my daughter and a cat we got out in western md 3-4 years ago.
