Is Naples shitty?

I have read a lot of bad stuff about crime, drugs, etc. What makes you say no?
>>

>crime
It's not a third-world city, crime is not going to touch you. You've read about it because of camorra, but like any other criminal organization of this world it doesn't hurt tourists. Actually, they WANT tourists.

Naples is a big mess by nature. It has always been like that, it's part of its identity. You visit Naples to taste its exuberance, its volcanic vitality. In the past it wasn't any different than today's Las Vegas or Bankok. Not to mention it's enormously full of artistic wonders.

Amalfi coast and the islands (your pic related) are peaceful and safe, with great food and fresh products everywhere you turn.

so guys, i'm 18 years old and i'm backpacking Europe with a buddy of mine.

>Starting in Norway; going to Norway and hiking from Flam to Oslo (300km/10days)

>Then i'm catching a flight to Berlin with the soul intent to party and go on a week long binge of drugs, women, & the bright lights of the city.

>Then it's to Barcelona for a week to relax and hang out on the beach. Drink beer on the beach type of thing & reflect with my buddy.

>& finally i'm off to the UK to see family for 3 days, then back to my shitty cowboy town. (Edmonton, Alberta)

I have $1800 dollars of spending money, all flights paid for, a instaprint polaroid camera, a book I'll be writing & a friend I have known for over 10 years.

Any advice, any places I should check out in any of the countries, phrases that will get me far? (a nonchalant way to obtain drugs for example)

I leave in two days!

In barcelona you can find weed in social clubs. It's high quality for a reasonable price, a lot of them are nearby the rambla so you should find them preatty easy. In berlin ask for drugs in clubs or wherever you're going to party, if you're into techno music you're gonna have a great time there. I don't know about norway.
>>
>>1246489
If you want to go on a binge of drugs, woman and other shit you will need 1800€ per night. Else your party experience is the equivalent of sniffing glue and drinking piss water "beer" with a gipsy under a bridge.

Enjoy your cultural enrichment. 10 years ago Germany was a good country to visit.

is there anywhere in this world where I can go for solitary confinement/isolation for a few months minimum where perhaps i stay in a cabin or something and work to earn my stay or just pay outright a far amount for renting out a tacky little isolated cabin int the wilderness? WITHOUT internet.

My situation is i'm a New Zealander and recently broke up with a beautiful russian girlfriend who ripped my heart out. I cant stop checking her facebook 10 times a day to see if theres any new male activity on there, and i know i cannot stop myself by simply "Blocking" her which just requires one click to unblock. I have no self-control and am on the verge of suicide, so i thought a few months of rigid, technology-absent isolation will be somewhat mentally cleansing and maybe even an enlightening experience.
But does such a simple experience even officialy exist?

Before you do something drastic and waste a lot of money try "Emotional Acupuncture" or EFT to treat your emotions about her.
Many free videos online demonstrating how to do it.

How do I find a travel buddy? I'm nearing 30 and though I do have friends I don't have any that enjoy the same type of travel as I do, nor do they travel nearly as much as I do.

Am I doomed to travel alone or is there a way to find like-minded people to travel with?

What's the best way to see the Julian Alps or Kamnik-Savinja Alps in Slovenia without a car?

What cities/towns should I stay in? I'd like to do outdoors activities such as kayaking, hiking, etc.
Is there a small city similar to Interlaken in Switzerland that you could stay in and then get to the other places (Murren, Gimmelwald, etc.) for hiking and all that relatively easily?

I looked around but it was hard to figure out what to do if I don't have a car.
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
If you're not going to move around too much, it's perfectly manageable with a bus and train.
Alternatively, there's a car pooling schema here, where you just find someone going your way and pay for part of the fuel https://prevoz.org/

I'd recommend staying either in Tolmin, Bovec or Bohinjska Bistrica, the Soča river valley and Bohinj are probably the most interesting in terms of hiking, kayaking, cannoeing, gliding and stuff like that.
There's hotels, bungalows, camps, I'm sure there's some hostels and of course, AirBnB.
And I think it's not too hard to rent a bicycle for shorter daily rides around those areas.
>>
>>1246467
Thank you!
>>
for Julian Alps definitely Bohinj. The bus in summer takes you all the way to Savica waterfall where there's a good starting point. I'm not sure about buses, but I think tourist offices in either Bled or Bohinjska Bistrica arrange mini buses to Pokljuka where it's a major starting point to Triglav among other mountaintops. I'd be able to give you a rough route to see Julian Alps if you tell me how long you plan on hiking there.

Any proposals, ideas? I was thinking of hanging myself in some industrial building, but I guess Hong Kong being crowded city would be hard to find privacy. I think Hong Kong is good city for suicide cuz they have lack of space, so they quickly burn every found dead body no matter of criminal implication, if it is unidentified body they keep it max for a week then burn it to ashes, cuz morgues are full to max as it is.

How shitty is the idea to try and volunteer at a Sloth sanctuary (maybe somewhere around Costa Rica) for a couple of weeks during summer? I don't know anyone that has done that before but my sisters volunteered at similar places (for elephants in Thailand) and really liked it.

Any advice?

Far as I can tell, there is the one Sloth Sanctuary, I imagine they are hip-deep in people w want to stay there and play with sloths.

Way to find out for sure -- contact them and ask.

Are these threads a thing? Haven't visited this site in a while and can't recall if they happened.

Anyways, just arrived to Bangkok yesterday and ill be here for a few days before moving on. Anyone know of especially cool places to go? Staying in Khao San atm and have explored a bit.

Still have to visit temples and the floating market, but don't have much else on the list desu.

Also available to hang I guess, currently intend to go bar hopping tonight but it's kind of hard when you're solo backpacking.

Staying in LA for a few days for a mini vacation with my wife, going in our Miata from Phoenix. Last time we were here a while a back we did the Griffith Observatory, Santa Monica Pier, and Universal Studios. Any locals have any recommendations for places to eat, good driving roads, etc?

That picture is beautiful
>>
Oh another LA thread, cool!

I would say take the ferry to Catalina Island, check out some museums around downtown like the MOCA or The Broad. take a drive down the Pacific Coast highway from the 10 to Point Mugu state park before sunset hits. Upp the Angeles Crest Highway or the CA-39 up in Azusa through the San Gabriel canyon (super underrated)

For food, it depends if youre looking for anything specific but in general, for Mexican/Central American look up some places in East or South LA. Korean in Ktown/Mid City. Japanese in Little Tokyo(cheaper) or Sawtelle. Chinese in San Gabriel, and the Valley has a bunch of great food spots scattered around as does the rest of the city.

Anything else youd like to ask?

Pic related, its Durian and Sticky rice. Mainly found only in Thailand, these are not as popular as mango and sticky rice due to Durian being an acquired taste. Durian is the only thing that made that fatass from the Travel Channel throw up and he fucking swallowed donkey jizz.

I don't get how anyone could find durian that disgusting. I guess I understand if you just don't really like it, but I'm not tasting anything that seems as bad as people say. I always thought people liked different tastes but all kind of had the same experience of what the thing is, but this makes me wonder if people are just tasting totally different flavors than I am.
>>
Durian is actually very good in small portions if mixed with something else, like rice, steamed rice cake, condensed milk, coconut pulp etc.

It's a very strange fruit indeed

>Mainly found only in Thailand
>Not Malaysia, Indonesia and Philippines where the name originates from
REEEEEEEEE
>>
>>1243114
This is just me, but durian smells like a used diaper mixed with gasoline. This is already offputting as is.

The taste, I find that it isn't too bad. It tastes like banana, custard, and garlic.

Going abroad for the first time alone, will be in Hong Kong, maybe Seoul, and maybe Tokyo. Any good sights to see in Seoul? And tips for nightlife in all of the above?
I've heard that Lan Kwai Fong is pretty good, but I'm trying to go outside my comfort zone and interact with strangers.
I've been to Japan a few times before, language skills are conversational at best, but all of my extended family is there, and pretty comfortable with the culture.
btw American if that helps

Go hiking in Hong Kong, for example Lion's Rock (pic related).

Wander in the night markets, amongst 4 months of roadtripping Asia and a year as an exchange student in Japan I found some of the best souvenirs there (erotic Asian art card games, odd lighters, communist relics, etc).

Only spent a week there but had a massive blast. Get your tinder game on mate.

For Seoul, Gangnam is where you wanna be for partying, as obvious as it sounds. The octagon club was fantastic from what I remember. Try the squid in food market (the one that still moves when served, don't choke on it tho).
You can hike in Seoul as well.

Tokyo... There's too much to talk about.
>>

Skip Seoul and allocate those days to hk or Tokyo.

The GF and I are trying to plan a trip, at the moment we're thinking of flying into Sicily for 5 days then get a ferry to Naples for an additional 5 days.

Any tips for travelling to Pompeii from Naples or of must-see museums/attractions?

Also just what are your opinions on these two spots in general as my favorite thing to do on holiday is just wander around sort of aimlessly all day drinking wine and see what we come across

There must be buses for travelling from Naples to Pompei.

Also, check out everything you can find about the Amalfi Coast, because it's close to Naples and it's very beautiful. Somehow similar to Cinque Terre, but with a different historical background (Amalfi was one of the biggest Maritime republics, along with Venice, Pisa and Genova). If you like to wander around and eat / drink wine, that's perfect for you.

Watch out for tourist traps when you're in big cities like Palermo and Naples. Better if you ask the locals (and by this I mean people in the street) where to eat.
>>
>>1242293
Thanks man the Amalfi Coast looks amazing, unfortunately with issues at work i can only get 7 days off atm so we're thinking of just doing Sicily properly but i plan to do a week in Naples next year and hit The Amalfi Coast/Capri/Pompeii

That's great, if you're just doing Sicily properly you might find interesting the Valle dei Templi in Agrigento
