Im going to Washington D.C. for a 4/5 days soon. What to see/do besides White house, Capitol and other things at national mall.

I'm a plane nerd so I hired a car & drove out to Dulles to see the Udvar-Hazy Aerospace Museum, it was fucking insane, so much cool shit inside including the actual Enola Gay, an SR71, and a fucking space shuttle.
It took about 45min to get there but totally worth it. On the way back I stopped in Alexandria to see the George Washington National Masonic National Memorial. Quite interesting & the tower offers great views across DC and southern VA, it can also be access by the DC transit system.
Consider going around the monuments and memorials at night. Cooler, less crowded, and they are pretty spectacular when lit up.
Why don't airlines give out some general behavior rules at the beginning of a flight. It would make life so much easier
>Don't take your shoes out
>Don't bang on the touch screen with both hands, use it lightly
>Don't kick the seat in front of you
>>1246024
Because by the time they were done we'd be at our location. That and most twats wouldn't listen to them anyway.
>>1246026
People do listen to that and it's just three sentences.
>>1246024
because airlines don't operate on basic human decency, they operate to make money and that involves cramming people into the smallest possible seat they think they can get away with
the other thing to remember is a lot of what you're seeing on flights is a reflection of the society that person belongs to
What are your favorite places in Europe?
It doesn't matter if they are touristy or hardly known. I'm just curious.
I really enjoyed Crete.. Also Calabria Italy..
>>1245774
Not Rome, that's for sure
Favorite place in Europe is prolly Alsace during christmas or Munich during Oktoberfest
>>1245819

Why?
I am an Indian looking to visit England and wanted some advice regarding the visa. I've been warned that my application would be rejected if I apply for the visa without my family. Further, I've been advised to leave out the details of my cousin sister whom I would be staying with (she's a British citizen).
Any tips or suggestions regarding the visa? I'd rather not spend the money on filling four applications.
Bamp
>>1245606
I don't know, M8. Am English, so never had to apply for an entry visa, for obvious reasons. If there's an Indian /trv/ somewhere or similar, I'd ask there as well.
Have a bump tho, in case anyone here can help. I like seeing tourists where I live, and usually tell them about the area and where to visit.
fuck off we're full
no offence lad
Hey /trv/,
I am thinking about going to Egypt for 2 days. The only place I would visit would probably be the Pyramids, and maybe the Nile.
Have any of you gone recently? Is it worth it to go? Did you feel safe while you were there?
I keep hearing terrible things about Egypt and how it is shit tier but seeing the pyramids are definitely on my bucket list, so I am torn.
Any help is much appreciated.
>>1245605
The pyramids aren't going anywhere. Wait until it is more safe if you arent very experienced.
>>1245605
>the Pyramids
>MAYBE the Nile
Are you planning to land in Libya and go East until you reach the Pyramids and then stop 1km away from the river?
>Have any of you gone recently? Is it worth it to go? Did you feel safe while you were there?
I was there October. It's not safe and twice as not for inexperienced travelers.
What are your age/sex/etc.
>>1245605
its quite safe. my parents go there ever year usually for diving in the south. they skipped the revolution year but came back the following year and took pictures on the Tahrir Square.
BUT they are highly experienced and not idiots.
It could be problematic when you have no idea what you are doing and you also lack experience.
also if you are a femanon: there are a few more unpleasantness in the northen african countries that you have to deal with. But it is doable.
Pyramids are a must see. But there are far more enjoyable temples down the nile. The big tourism just makes it quite hectic and you always has to be aware of scams with everything regarding the pyramids (drivers, guides, etc.).

*Info on prostitution*
Please try to refrain from asking questions about prostitution. Japan's sex industry is almost completely inaccessible to foreigners who do not speak Japanese. What is available can generally be found in the following links

*Note about the JR Pass*
Many people ask about whether or not the JR Rail Pass is worth it. It depends on your itinerary.
Plug your itinerary into Hyperdia to determine ticket costs, then compare to the below JR Pass options:
>7 day Pass: 29,110Â¥
>14 day Pass: 46,390Â¥
>21 day Pass: 59,350Â¥
Please check the /trv/ sticky before asking questions. It's filled with links to great resources, many of them specific to Japan travel.
Please refer to the old thread while it's still up: >>1240799

Where are the best places to go for a holiday for weed? Is Amsterdam the only option?
It sounds as though more and more coffeeshops are closing, but the government won't give out licenses.

go to a state where its legal.
Hello /trv/, I was curious on what people usually think about TV shows like this? Have you been to places represented in these and are they usually as interesting/boring as they show them out to be? Does it usually help in deciding a destination if you're curious about traveling to?
Sorry for taking up time in curiosities, Canadian here that doesn't travel too much but wants to.

An Idiot Abroad is basically just a sitcom with Karl Pilkington playing a character; the show puts him in situations that will be amusing.
The Rick Steves guides to Europe are available free on YouTube and they're comfy viewing but they're aimed at a middle class, middle aged American audience.
as far as travel shows, I like Bourdain,
Destinations was ok, the two guys got annoying.
I find Pilkington hilarious, but Gervais is an ass.
Usually i watch the Bourdain episode after I return from my trip.. to see if there was any comparable opinions.. I don't base my destinations on travel sitcoms though.
literally anywhere nice (preferably exotic) to go where I can meet other people of my age (18-25, I'm 19)?
I'm not antisocial by any means but I want to go travelling by myself for the first time this summer and go somewhere where I will have an easy time making friends.
virtually any hostel

huh, didn't know it'd be that straightforward. cheers

How soon after Trump BTFOs Kim Jong-Un will North Korea be open for travel? I think it would be a fascinating experience to visit a country in the aftermath of a totalitarian dictator being overthrown.
You can already go to North Korea. I spend like 5,000 bucks going there a couple of years ago. Worth it desu, its so fucking weird.
>>1245792
Yeah, but isn't it a really restricted tour where you can't really do anything?
>>1245795
But everything of interest is on the tour. The rest of the country is dirt poor.
The only thing that would change with a massive regime change would maybe be tours of what would become the former torture prisons and labor camps and the residency.
Hey /trv/.. looking for suggestions for a road trip.. I live in the red dot.. looking to spend a couple weeks driving through the states this summer.. The obvious would be the coast down to Cali, but I've been there before.. So i'm curious about the states to the east, like Idaho, Montana, Wyoming.
Is there anything people could recommend in those states? Good cities, places to avoid.. What to expect...
How about this anon

>Grand Teton Natl park
>Jackson Hole
>Salt Lake City
>Arches Natl park

I fell for the backpacking meme
how the fuck am I supposed to find a bag big enough to carry all my shit and also not look like a tool walking around the town
>>1245527
Travel like an Asian. 3 cheap rolling suitcases.
>>1245527
you don't, that's why backpackers are universally hated outside of backpacking communities, because they look and smell like shit and carry enormous packs that get in the way of everyone
>>1245527
>>1245530
lelwut
I don't get it.
I used a very casual-looking backpack (ie. something designed for school or work, not hiking or camping). A backpack like that blends in with the city quite well, and doesn't get in the way. Come to think of it, it was a pretty small backpack, and I estimate that its maximum capacity wasn't even 20 litres.
I do at least understand >>1245530's point of locals disliking dirty unwashed tourist hippies and their giant backpacks with everything in it. Fortunately I showered everyday, changed clothes everyday, and carried a <20L backpack.
I packed very lightly. I only brought 3 days' worth of clothes, and took them to a laundromat when I ran out of clean clothes to wear.
I didn't pack any toiletries because 1. liquid restrictions on flights are annoying, and 2. I'm not a woman. I used the toiletries provided by my hotel, and purchased a small/cheap tube of toothpaste. Toothbrushes were provided free of charge in two of the hotels I stayed in.
Clothes & toiletries are really the only thing you need for a trip (besides money & passports). My backpack was a far cry from full when I started the trip. I filled the abundant space with non-essential frivolities such as a camera, USB chargers, and a first-aid kit, and I still had way too much room in my backpack.
What the feck were you guys packing?
Going to Hong Kong for a week at the end of the month. Where should I stay? In Kowloon to the to north or on Hong Kong island?
I just came back from HK three weeks ago.
Stay in Kowloon. All the sites and interesting stuff is on that side. I made the mistake of staying on the Island and there was very little to see on the Island side. Ended up wasting so much time taking the rails to Kowloon because all the temples and interesting sites were on that side.
Everyone told me it was a meme, but definitely visit The Peak at least once, and if you do, in the evening where the sight of the HK lights is wonderful.
>>1245488
+1 thanks anon
the peak is on the HK side right?
>>1245516
Yep, it's on HK Island.
I suggest you do the Lugard Road walk, here's a tutorial on how to get there from The Peak Tower: http://blog.bigfoottour.com/victoria-peak-hong-kong/
It is a lot less busier than The Peak Tower lookout. If you do it on an afternoon or early evening, there will be a lot of photographers at the lookout, but as >>1245488 suggests, the city lights look fantastic at night.
I'm a photographer so I spent some time at the lookout photographing the sunset, I then walked back to The Peak Tower and checked out the view and had an overpriced (albeit tasty) dinner.
