jupp, talentless hack. That's definitely the words to describe the person who painted this at the age of 15.

Any ballpoint pens specifically made for drawing? Something with slightly finer tip and possibly less ink drip than standard office pens?

You could try jetstream.
>>
>>3039849
All pens will make blobs because of how ballpoint works, you have to wipe them periodically while you draw. I like the Pilot BPS-GP.

There's quite a variety, some are very springy and thick and some very hard and thin. The best you could do is buy a couple cheap ones and try them out, the one I use and love cost me like 99c.

I'd def go for the star, the S size is really.. well, there's a reason why it's so freaking cheap compared to other models.

This >>3038865 on the other hand is the other extreme. I own the giano and a smaller huion H610pro and I have to say, the big surface area is a meme.
To calculate the optimal tablet size without having to try it, imagine the drawing on your monitor screen stretched across the tablet active area and compare it to how big you're used to draw when working traditionally.
If you had a giano with a small laptop, it would feel like drawing on a full scale A2 paper.

Also consider huion new 1060 plus and Q11K, those look really sweet.

Keep it short and very specific. Can only be something you discovered from tons of mileage. Doesnt matter if the advice is good or bad, just put it out there.

When drawing the hand, always start drawing out the thumb, palm, and arm first. Fingers are sort of like frills on a dress

When drawing someone walking, draw one of the full legs first, so you can see how the other contrasts

dont start to draw a face by making and finishing a single eye. it will fuck up your facial structure and your second eye. just don't do it.

Compress your values. When you paint a full range of values, shift the levels so your pitch blacks are greys. Then paint your blacks again.

Then learn to paint lots of in-between values the first time around.

Hey /ic/, what brand of sketchbook do you prefer, what's the dimensions and why?

Any recommendations on a brand that alcohol based markers will not bleed through or show on the reverse side of the page? Nothing irks me more than flipping through my sketchbook and seeing blobs on the reverse side.

It depends where you are and what's available, your budget, ect. The crescent rendr sketchbook is made for markers, but a bit pricey.
Canson marker xl is a bound pad, not a sketchbook but does have a lot of paper (100 sheets).
I think there is an actual copic sketchook as well, which is similar to the rendr one. And there's always the option of just binding your own marker paper into a custom book.

I never get why people expect the artistic academia to write landscapes and portraits with them. Aren't they supposed to do everything in their possibilities to bring the art form forward? In that case something like the sculpture in your pic is to the artist infinitely more interesting than any good landscape that has come out from deviantart.

What also annoys me is the fact that complain the most about contemporary art are also, usually, people who don't support the new art that fit their standards. People complaining about a Rothko NEVER care enough about art to support an artist that, to them, could be the next Raphael. They bitch about avant-garda only because yes, they are producing art, but not for plebs like OP, who, to appreciate art, needs to find the name of its author on a history book or a wikipedia page.

It's the same with music by the way. People bitch vostantly about composers from conservatoires, who compose mostly for the academic community (a Boulez sonata is worthless to the public, but infinitely useful to performers and composers) while still being unable of supporting not even a single artist who uses the tonality they so much like. Ultimately, it appears that this sort of conventional art is not truly interesting to anyone really. People want to go to go in a museum and say "that looks nice", and will end up worshipping competence (even in its most basic form, you don't need to be Rembrandt or Beethoven to truly amaze your audience, a realistic representation or a tonal piece with nice rhythms will be enough) far more than the essence itself of the art they're contemplating. It makes for a much shallower appreciation, so much that they won't ever bother looking for or supporting art of a similar kind.

Sorry for the rant, but as far as I'm concerned you're the worst person on this board.
>>
>>3034177

You shouldn't be sorry for what you wrote, actually I am thankful for your post because it captures the essence what I and I hope bunch of others on this board also think.

Why I'm pissed off at post modern/contemporary art is there's a massive drop in standards now that anyone can be an artist by overthinking and shilling some last minute art project. These (con)artists are hardly trained in the fundamentals and traditional disciplines and foster in a circle jerk PC environment (just go down to any western uni art school) where they pretentiously shit paint and objects around a canvas.

If these postgrad art students or some contemporary experimental artist were to draw a simple landscape or portrait pencil & paper it'll most likely be in the callibre of the /ic/ beginner thread. You don't truly bring any art form forward by abandoning the fundamentals.

First off, please post in the beginners thread.

I'd say, tackle your chicken scratching above all. Your lines are messy. Draw with long, confident strokes.
It'll yield poor results at first, but with practice you'll get way more appealing pictures.

Secondly, I'd advise you to read Loomis' fun with a pencil, to get a grasp on 3D form and construction.

Good luck!

I'mma try and overpaint. This is gonna be fun. Try desiding if you want to paint or do a lineart.

A thread died for this.

OP, you have a right to have fun but please consider the board culture you're shitposting on. Some of the people coming here are genuine and actually want to improve (not me, obviously). By shitposting you're lowering the level of the community.

Delete your thread. You know it's the reasonable choice.

So /ic/ I think we all on here can learn something from this Video.

Not many people enjoy marketing themselves, and the amount of inconvenience you'll put yourself and your clients through will far outweigh the actual effort put into just putting some shit online and sending it around.

Marketing yourself isn't hard, just have an online portfolio, send it around to AD's who you think could use your work and if they need something from you, voila. They'll contact you and tell you what to draw.

the proportions (as in how the things are placed out and take space in your frame) could be better

think about that.

So I found this piece of art https://www.artstation.com/artwork/WxZrN
Which I really liked so I decided to try to find the initial references he used to bash and paint this. I realized it looked allot like Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides so I went to a screen cap site, and guess what I found the image of the guy's coat on the left. Now I figure more are most likely from here bust there are also other sources. I put this image into google images and it took me to a Chinese website that seems to be a gold mine of reference, only I don't know how it works. Here is the site
http://www.tuyima.com/nndoob/
I thought it would be fun to deconstruct this and find all the references.
