So I found this piece of art https://www.artstation.com/artwork/WxZrN
Which I really liked so I decided to try to find the initial references he used to bash and paint this. I realized it looked allot like Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides so I went to a screen cap site, and guess what I found the image of the guy's coat on the left. Now I figure more are most likely from here bust there are also other sources. I put this image into google images and it took me to a Chinese website that seems to be a gold mine of reference, only I don't know how it works. Here is the site

I thought it would be fun to deconstruct this and find all the references.

Why exactly?
Why not spend that time drawing?

NYPA

Because in order to draw well you have to know how to find good references. That's what matte painting is it's learning to create hyper real things by finding good references. That's what the old masters did too. Rembrandt would spend more time planning and finding reff for his pieces than painting them.

Thanks man, hopefully we can figure this out.

This isn't real art real art, real art can only be made while hanging under a helicopter upside down not using any reference.
