>NES: Kirby's Adventure

>Genesis/MegaDrive: Sonic 3D Blast (Traveler Tales actually did a great job here. Sonic and enemies all even have shadows shaped like themselves)

>SNES: Pic-related (it looks like a game that would normally be only be able to be done on the PS1/N64/Saturn, it has a beautiful artstyle and its graphics are still beautiful to this day. It was a late 1997 game for the SNES/SFC so HAL put a lot into it).

N64: Conker's Bad Fur Day (it used the largest cartridge utilized for the N64).

PS1: Vagrant Story

DC: Shenmue II (takes what Shenmue built and improves on it, showed that the Dreamcast could have competed with the PS2 graphically, though disc space would have been a likely handicap as had it been for the N64 in terms of graphics).

Donkey Kong Land on the Game Boy, actually.
>Based on the groundbreaking CGI-rendered SNES hit Donkey Kong Country, this highly enjoyable platformer is arguably the title that pushed the original Game Boy to its absolute limits, and Machacek is proud of what he achieved. “I deliberately sat down and spent three weeks doing nothing but engine work to get it to a point that it could handle anything we threw at it,” he remembers. “At that time many games were downloading about 6-8 characters a frame to the video bank and Donkey Kong Land needed much more than that with all of the rendered artwork it had to drive. I do know that my lead artist got fed up of waiting for me to finish this work! It was techy stuff that was invisible to him, and you have to understand that three weeks to write an engine seemed like an age when we had put out the Game Boy version of WWF SuperStars in three months flat – including testing – a couple of years earlier. But the Donkey Kong Land engine was able to shift 24 characters a frame by the end, and suddenly we were able to drive a lot of rendered artwork. I don’t think anyone complained after that, especially when it sold four million units!”

Obelix, Smurfs' Nightmare, Star Hawk and Hammerin Harry, also on the Game Boy.

Are these games just got looking or can you actually proof that they pushed anything? For all I care we can turn this into a "best looking games on x console" thread.
>>
>>3400959
Kirby's Adventure and Conker's BFD certainly pushed the consoles. Yu Suzuki also said that Shenmue II used most of the Dreamcast's power.

Drifting is so different to all recent ones that it's taken me ages to adjust. You HAVE to cancel the drift every time, meaning an extra hop.

Game is as fun as ever, but battlemode is derisory as everyone knows the red shell timing

Sorry for the late reply.

First and foremost, Grand Elves. Their weekly growth deals even more damage than that of Unicorns, not to mention Rampart heroes often get Archery. They also work very well with Expert Earth/Mass Slow. However, they MUST be guarded at all costs.

Which brings us to another point: Rampart have plenty meat shield units. Dwarves, Dendroids, even Unicorns are quite alright. You have plenty to choose from. Just never let the enemy touch the Elves, surround them from all sides.

Third, sieging castles. This is where it gets harder. First, If you don't want to lose your Elves, leave them with another hero. They will get targeted by arrow towers and decimate their numbers. Second, you have a lot of slow walkers. You'd really benefit from Ballistics, but alas, it's hard to get for all Rampart heroes. Thus, Rampart can't just take a castle quickly without Dragons.

You'd be advised to learn Expert Earthquake and/or Teleport, depending on you magic school proficiency. But anyway, if you can, leave the job for Dragons. It's much easier that way with gem/Clancy.

I don't think there is netplay for PS1, but even if it did, it's probably gonna be laggy as fuck. You're better off playing locally with someone by connecting a second controller or something.

ePSXe maybe?

I definitely need to play this game.
Do people still burn games and play on their modded ps2/ps1s?

>>
>>3394764
Probably. Expect a lot of disagreement, though.
>>
If you only care about that job system, yes.
>>
Yes. By far the best gameplay. Best characters, partly because the cast being small enough that nobody is irrelevant. A lot of people shit on the plot, but I don't think they should, because no FF game has a good plot. Admittedly, the music is pretty outclassed by a lot of the later entries; 6 swooped in right after and completely outdid it in that regard, but not any other.

>Anything major to worry about getting started?
You might want to check the previous thread, we've already had detailed discussion about this.

There's a few permanently missable items some of which are key items for a certain quest, use magic a lot since you won't be able to get any new spell without upping your proficiencies in magic schools, get new formations by talking to the captain in the dojo and prepare to die a lot.
All the rest is more or less standard SaGa routine, albeit more brutal and non linear than average.

It's a love it or hate it game, but Fortune Street is top-tier for this. I recommend the wii version simply because a bunch of the retro versions don't have 4-player support, also it's in English. Aside from that, almost all the series games are identical from what I can tell.
