I missed the opportunity of growing up with this system, so now that I have glorious emulation at my disposal, give me all your recs for the ps1. I know about the RE's, parasite eve, xenogears and all those know games. But what about the hidden gems out there?
>do my work for me /vr/
Chrono trigger cross
Final fantasy 8
Tobal
Legend of dragoon

I dig that XP or riced linux look my man.
As for game recs, I would recommend anything from Square.
Anyone into Commodore 64 emulation?
What's the best emulator to use (I've heard hoxs64 and VICE are pretty-much the only ones worth using)?
Where can I get a good rompack?

Neck yourself, bruv.
How good is VICE's SID emulation?
What I have: a PSP 3000 with 6.61 oficial firmware
What I want: To play Snatcher and Policenauts on it.
What I don´t have: A fucking clue about custom firmware/pirating PSP
Any help, /vr/?
Also, Snatcher & Policenauts general
>>3818624
>What I have: a PSP 3000 with 6.61 official firmware
I think you have to downgrade to 6.60 to beable to put the HEN cfw
>What I want: To play Snatcher and Policenauts on it.
There's a really good Sega CD emulator called PicoDrive that runs Snatcher perfectly on the PSP. As for Policenauts just get the eboot off of emu-paradise
>What I don´t have: A fucking clue about custom firmware/pirating PSP
There are literally hundreds of vids on youtube detailing how to do it. Start with that downgrade thing then work from there IE: 6.60 ofw to 6.60 cfw
>>3818659
Seconding this, hacking should be extremely simple and there's a lot of resources out there any kind of situation.
As for Snatcher, use PicoDrive and make sure you have the Sega CD bios. I vaguely remember there being a few extra steps for the audio files in Snatcher, just look it up. It's easy to follow shit.
>>3818624
here ya go anon, it isn't hard at all there is custom firmware installers that don't need any tricks besides moving the files to the psp

Are there any "lost" games? Games never emulated and are simply rare to begin with?
Comiket doujin games can fall in this category, how about actual console or arcade games?
Socks the cat
>Comiket doujin games
Old ones, i guess you mean. Nowadays you get Comiket collection torrents a few day after the event
As of the thread question, i guess all those regional adventure games that people sometime remember, ususally from europe. Those tend to appear on "games only you've played" threads.
Polybius
I just picked this up for $6 at work, but I won't be home for a few more hours. I had never heard of it, but I picked it up because it looked cool.
Is it any good?
I always love the SNES/PS1/PS2 graphics of the RPG Maker games - it's a shame they don't allow for easy distribution
>>3818170
This. You would need a DexDrive or similar - maybe a softmodded PS2(?) to copy pre-made RPGs onto a PS1 memory card. The PC versions have far more user content available and are also easier to develop for.
The most popular version is RPG Maker2000so technically not /vr/ which also saves us from the slippery slope of "are all RPGs made with RPGM2000 retro?"
>>3818185
Wait, so I'll be able to play it on my PS1 but I won't be able to copy my RPGs onto a memory card? Do they take up too much space or something?

Has anybody here got any experience creating games that can run on a nes emulator? I asked on the technology board and was advised to come here. I can't program, but I'd like to just be able to print text to screen maybe and create some sprites that I can display with a nes emulator. I saw one video of somebody writing code to make a sprite fire bullets..it was like hundreds of lines of indecipherable text, and I just kinda decided programming wasn't for me. But I'd like to try and create something like a visual novel on a retro platform.
Is there software that can make a language like C or Javascript understandable to a nes emulator, or is it more complex than that?
It might be easier to start out by romhacking. That way you can learn how the NES works within parameters you know won't crash the system, and once you know your way around it then you can think about doing something original.
>>3817316
Java is a interpreted language, so that's not going to run at any reasonable speed on an NES (you'd also have to write a java interpreter), and C is for the most part still too abstracted, so the compiled C would be too large or inefficient.
Basically, Java and C will put too much overhead on the NES to run well.
You could probably get away with C on the SNES though.
>>3817365
I might reconsider and look into doing it on snes instead. Is there a language you would recommend for something like this? I know its possible in theory, but not sure the best way to put the idea into practice. Maybe I'll start by messing with colors in existing roms.
I acquired a Saturn with a broken laser for around 10 dollars, and I was wondering, what's the most recommended mod/repair I should do to get stuff running on it?
Also, what's the status of Dr. Abrasive's USB port mod?
good deal
>>3817308
You don't need to bump, threads get pruned a little slower on /vr/
>>3817302
Thanks. I couldn't pass it up, even though the onyl Saturn game I have is Daytona.
I love this game, so what?
I love it too
Is there contention with this game?
>>3816540
Not as far as Im aware. The general consensus I always seen was favorable. It's always one of the names that come up when talking about favorite dead series
How strong is your autism regarding images and videos for your virtual collection-frontends? Do you download every box art? Do you also download box backs, carts, screenshots, etcetera? Do you put a gameplay video for them?
I use my Wii so I can't get that thorough but front covers are essential, for sure. Just feels kind of soulless clicking some text.
>>3816376
>Just feels kind of soulless clicking some text.
this
videos are too much tho
>>3816343
It depends on the game.
For example I'm a big Megadrive fan.
So I like to have as much extra media for certain games as possible.
Ecco the dolphin and Phantasy Star IV are two such games.
I have box scans, commercials, comic versions, art books, etc.
But that's just because these are games that I can pick up anytime time and really love.
I wouldn't do so.much media collecting for every game that I own.
That would be impossible, and extremely autistic.
Is there an instance of a PAL game being superior to its NTSC version?
Has never and will never happen. PAL has never been relevant to gaming.
Yes, if you get a lobotomy.
A lot of Master System games were designed for PAL. And for some reason Truxton runs at the same speed as the arcade version on a PAL console, so it's arguably the true version. Better would be a matter of opinion though, some people might like it running faster.
I've also heard a few people say they prefer the music in SoR3 with PAL slowdown.
Why do people like JRPG's? I can think of hundreds of games I'd rather get on the Playstation than those expensive JRPG's, and yet, those are what many collectors seek. To me they seem boring, and I have no real interest in collecting them.
To me I prefer anything action, racing, or even puzzle / strategy oriented on the PS1 (example, Tomb Raider, Wipeout 3, Doom, Dune 2000, Metal Slug X, and even platformers like Spyro, Klonoa, and admittedly Harry Potter.
Looking forward to getting new games like Space Hulk, Tail of the Sun, and R-Types to name a few.
But Lunar, Grandia, Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy, Arc the Lad etc just have little to no appeal for me, and with their prices, I'm like maybe I'll get one, but for the rest, not even going to bother.
So my question I propose is this
>why do you like JPRG's?
>and if you were to reccomend 1 JRPG for me to pick up and play (something with long gameplay) and just one that I'd love and adore, which game would you reccomend?
I'm only a Final Fantasy fan when it comes to JRPG's.
Like, yeah I guess the Chrono series was good, for all two games they had, and Legend of Dragoon was okay.
But, really Final Fantasy 8 is my GOAT game.
>>3815804
>But, really Final Fantasy 8 is my GOAT game.
OP here. funny you mention that, because that's the one Final Fantasy game that peaks my interest the most.

What's the emulation potential of this?
Similar to the Wii. I've been assured that the Pi3 is appreciably more powerful though.
>>3812272
Tsss is a raspberry pi, in other words a microcontroller, ie the brain of a computer itself ..
I have seen in forums, videos, people who make Game Boy, Arcades, Snes and Megadrive portable .. in addition, many raspberry have HDMI input, if you are very passionate about the subject of electronic, robotic and informatica this is for you
Can do, NES, SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, 32x, Turbo Duo-16, Game Boy, Game Gear, Master System, PS1 fairly good, N64 only few titles. Mame up to the mid 90s, if its 2d its usually good.
Who are your favorite reviewers or let's players of classic games, /vr/?
No.
>Arino
>e-celeb
>>3812246
Mark is irrelevant. His videos get, on average, less than 10,000 views. I would not say he is an e-celeb.
