How strong is your autism regarding images and videos for your virtual collection-frontends? Do you download every box art? Do you also download box backs, carts, screenshots, etcetera? Do you put a gameplay video for them?
>>
I use my Wii so I can't get that thorough but front covers are essential, for sure. Just feels kind of soulless clicking some text.

>Just feels kind of soulless clicking some text.
this

videos are too much tho
>>
>>3816343
It depends on the game.
For example I'm a big Megadrive fan.
So I like to have as much extra media for certain games as possible.

Ecco the dolphin and Phantasy Star IV are two such games.

I have box scans, commercials, comic versions, art books, etc.

But that's just because these are games that I can pick up anytime time and really love.

I wouldn't do so.much media collecting for every game that I own.

That would be impossible, and extremely autistic.
>>
>>3816343
My autism level is < 0. I don't do any of that shit. I think I'd an hero if I ever found myself considering it.
>>
>>3816343
If I cared that much about a game then I'd own it physically.
I set up replacement cases and I'd buy a manual only for my favorite games.

So i take it you don't ever emulate arcade/neo geo games

Most arcade pcbs/Neo Geo carts aren't particularly expensive dude.

/ic/ and /gd/ anon here. I like to save images of japanese NES, Genesis and SNES boxes, strategy guides, labels and manuals for aesthetics only. The Nipponese have a very strong sense of design and art, imo.

>>3816343
What game? What console? Is it in English?

Mah nigga.
>>
While cover art can be nice it's really a false impression/advertisement of what's in the game. I find it with books as well, you can have the coolest looking cover that inclines you come back to it, and then it's just awful inside or vice versa.
>>
I'd like to do something like that, have the manuals and boxart for my files, haven't thought of the best way to do it. For some of my ps1 games its multiple bin files so that messes up the simplicity.
>>
>>3821605
>I'd like to do something like that, have the manuals and boxart for my files, haven't thought of the best way to do it.
get a frontend dude
>>
I used to save box art, manuals, soundtracks, guides, manga/comics, commercials, anime, etc. for all the games I downloaded, but I stopped doing it for the same reason I stopped collecting: I realized I was fetishizing images and objects instead of valuing the game experience itself. Now I still download art and soundtracks for games I really like, but I don't try and catalog everything.
>>
>>3821701
>I realized I was fetishizing images and objects instead of valuing the game experience itself.
Some game experiences don't deserve to be valued at all but they still have some amazing art worth collecting and keeping. I don't agree with your statement.

I collect images of: box art (the backs are the most interesting and I based my purchases on them rather than the front), carts, manuals advertising, everything official, videos commercials or official making of and related, save cartoons, movies and soundtracks. The scans of box sides are rare and it triggers me, there are logos and images worth preserving. Screenshots of games are really pointless, even official ones (like the “promo art” screenshots at mobygames). I delete duplicate images and lower quality ones with Dupdetector. I own rom hacks but delete trainers, I keep only good rom dumps unless no better choice available for a given country.
The bad thing is that I’m not autistic enough to be steady on all this, I’m stuck on “farming” almost 70 games (mostly NES, and a few GB and Snes) from 4 years now while I wanted to expand my virtual collection, the problem is that it is too boring to do this, maybe I should continue while listening to some music. If only there was just that one site devoted to all this with the best images and all of them, I would have hundred of games by now instead of 70, I wish mobygames had a manuals section as well. Vizzed has a nice 3d effect on the boxes, I tried a way to download them with no result, anyway real 3d scans are the future of box art collection.

Me too, but its built-in scraper sucks ass. Great front end otherwise. Pixel theme is the best.

well, that's what the launchbox database is trying to become. its still too early for it. but the scrapping they do for manuals is top notch, even obscure japanese games from my collection have them.

for box front and back, take a minute, breath and listen to me - gamefaqs. yeah i know the website is absolute crap, but they do have a good selection of artwork added to them. very few stuff was missing when i used them as basis to update the art of my 8-16gb collection. now, of course, they're all from varying quality (some really nice, some 100x100 for instance), but hey, beggars can't be choosers. i also browse specific sites for game collections on the side (like famicom world for NES/Fami, pcengine dot co dot uk for turbografx/CD, sega retro for sega stuff etcetera) and you can fill up the blanks. its troublesome of course, but i do find it worth it when i browse the collection and see everything scrapped and with all their images, i'm an art whore and discovered so many cool artworks doing this 'tedious' job
>>

I didn't mention gamefaqs but I go there too. For what I remember they have more famicom stuff than moby. I use theirs and mobygames boxes on google image reverse search, thanks to that I discovered many interesting sites like http://thecoverproject.net which has hires scans (and custom boxes which I ignore, not that they're bad but I can't collect everything), andydecarli (many NES hires scans) and whatnot. I've toying with the idea to use a frontend, they basically "search images for me"? But it can't replace my manual search, thanks to that I discovered many good places.

I bet amazon and e-bay have good images endlessly updated, but I still didn't get there.

>I've toying with the idea to use a frontend, they basically "search images for me"? But it can't replace my manual search, thanks to that I discovered many good places.

You can tell the frontend to search first and then replace/add the missing ones by hand. Best of both worlds. You can even set up different art for NA/EU/JP versions which i love doing. It just saves you time for really common stuff, honestly - you can tell it to download all the art it can find and then you go and delete the ones you don't want/the quality is bad.

Amazon and eBay are sometimes the only places to find really rare artwork (stuff like porn mahjong games form the PCE-CD for instance) but the quality is always such crap. Think discogs but worse.

GameFAQs is an awesome site and a credit to the internet.
>>
>>3826302
Hey, this launchbox is interesting, it reminds me of Mame gui. I guess I can't without a frontend from now on. There was a topic about them some week ago, was launchbox the "winner"? For now I download its portable version, it has a good database for the little I checked.
>>
I don't use a front end. I just open the rom like any other file.
