What are some comfy retro games to play while listening to audio lectures? I'd prefer SNES, but am not picky

What is the Blame of retro games?
>>3816024
I'd have to know what Blame is first.
baroque maybe
I don't know what Blame is, so I'll just go by OP's pic for reference. So a guy getting shot full of holes... my answer is "literally any shmup"
Pick one.

Super Advantage because that's the one my parents got me, even though I wanted the Fighting Stick SN. Why the hell is Megadrive spelled as one word?
>>3815926
>Why the hell is Megadrive spelled as one word?
brits
Someone recommended me the one for Genesis because I complained about the cord length of the 3-button. It's bretty gud, and the turbo features are handy, especially for Vectorman.
Just finished this. Very good game. A bit easy but fun regardless.
What characters did you all use? Are the other games in the series as good?
>Starting a series with the fifth game
How can people do this?
>>3814656
I was told it was a standalone story
The plot did stand on its own and I was able to understand the whole thing.
>>3814641
I've played some of the first two and liked them in a comfy archaic NES RPG way, you'd probably hate them
So, we know both of this console have bad hardware.
But who is the worst?
both have their ups and downs

Saturn looks best on that one
N64 was like apples and oranges and it still kind of is.
Post your favorite Megaman game and character.

He isn't *from* that game, but whatever I guess..
Anyways X6 and Zero.
if it has to be retro, X4 and Zero though i am terrible as him. I also think 4 is my favorite from the classic series, though I think Cossack and Kalinka should have reappeared in other games besides Rockboard.
if not barred to Retro, Battle Network 2/3 and Bass EXE.
Why is retro PC gaming not more popular?

You can do it on a modern PC in most cases

bored so i downloaded an amiga emulator and some games. so far they all suck, in my opinion. any good amiga games?
Chunder Force
Chazzwazzer

i've been deceived?
>>3812325
The secret of most Amiga games is that 95% of them suck, and the 5% that were good almost all got DOS ports (like Lemmings for example).
I say this as someone who had an Amiga 500 as a kid. Shit sucked. Euros don't know how to make a good platformer to save their lives with only a few exceptions (Turrican). That said, they do know how to make good RPGs, but all the worth while ones also had DOS versions, so that is not really a wining point either.
Its a neat system for it's GUI capabilities at the time and Video Toster, but thats it.
Do you guys abbreviate?
I abbreviate, like, it's not Crystal Castle, it's Crystal. It's not Paperboy, it's Paper. It's not Marble Madness, it's Marble
It's not Castlevania, it's 'vania.
>>3816326
That would be a negative, ghost rider.
Hey /vr/ what game is this?
Skeleton Hostage 2: Dark Ransom
Castlevania Bloodlines on the Wii.
>>3815829
Addams Family on the Turbo CD.
Is this normal for a gameboy screen? I don't remember it ever being this hard to see 20 years ago. This is with the contrast slider right about in the middle.
Fairly typical might be a little sun damaged and your batteries are also clearly low.
>>3815717
Looks true to my experience, especially the OG Gameboy. The Pocket has a slightly better screen, and the Color's screen is a quantum leap better than the Pocket. But for best results, I suggest using a GBA SP, which is the best.
I was on a Gameboy Camera kick a while back, and I quickly realized that adjusting the in-game contrast while adjusting the hardware contrast was a huge pain and made photos really hard to take.
Pic related is a scanner's view of a Pocket's screen.
DMG screens are all slowly dying.

pretty sure that number thing about (2)s not playing burned games is a meme. I've never, ever seen a DC that wouldn't boot burned discs.
>>3815364
none of this makes sense
Also I bought it as a broken system because the dude said it didn't read discs, he included the disc he'd been using.
Is it simply scratched beyond reading or is it my laser?
I've never played a Dragon Quest. Am I missing out or just not that interesting for non-japanese people? I've never see them included in discussions about best RPGs
>>3814758
It's a pretty unremarkable series. The games are never outright terrible or broken, but none of them really excel at anything either. It's as though the developers are devoted to creating the most generic and mediocre JRPG experience possible with each entry.
The few mechanics pioneered by Dragon Quest have also since been used in countless other superior games, so you aren't really missing anything by avoiding the series. If you've ever played a traditional JRPG, you've probably already experienced everything Dragon Quest has to offer.
Dragon quest is widely regarded for pioneering many common JRPG mechanics
But if you ask me the old games haven't aged well and the new games latch on to too many "traditions" that other old JRPG series have let go of
>>3814758
There's a thread already btw >>3780614
Answering your question: DQ created JRPG, to put it simply. Every new game made waves in video game world. Every JRPG owes to it or plain pulls stuff from it. So you have "played" DQ even not knowing so.
>I've never see them included in discussions about best RPGs
DQ is THE most notorious case of a game that had been mostly only known in Japan. There, it's probably in top-10 best-selling franchises.
It came out in the wrong time on NES. The first DQ came out there AFTER Final Fantasy; needless to say, it looked outdated. DQII–IV were missed by most people, and DQV and VI weren't even published in US. Then after a long while, DQVII was brought there, but frankly it was very hard to appreciate if you haven't played DQ before; the graphics weren't even 3D for the most part.
It was only DQVIII that caught people's attention on PS2, becoming a surprise hit in the West. Thanks to it, we're now getting more games from the series localized.
DQIV, V and VIII are all considered good starting points to get into the series. I liked III most of all, personally.
Why is this the only memorable "console war"? People still debate about it to this very day.
Because we're Americans that may have grew up in the 90's.
16-bit days were the best. Huge step forwards from 8-bit in music and graphics, just 2 main players head to head, sega and nintendo. Ah nostalgia...
Pretty much because it was the only one that was really close for a long time - plus Sega's attack ads basically invening the idea of a "console war"
