How Retro is too Retro.
In other words how far back into retro gaming can you go before deciding "These games are just too old".
For me I can play for ZX Spectrum and still have fun.

Even if it's a Russian game.
Ryoma is better than chrom

I rarely find CGA graphic games appealing so it's a good day when it also comes in an EGA form.
PAC-Man is the farthest I'd go. I know I'm a pleb
Where did time go, and more importantly, where are these games?
What?
>nov 1 2013
>4 years
Closer to 3.
And yeah, what?
>>3819015
lmao has it really been 4 years? /vr/ used to be so fucking comfy in 2014. threads would last for months and there was minimal shitposting.
Can someone explain to me why SNK allowed Crystalis to be remade on Game Boy Color when they were pushing the Neo-Geo Pocket Color as a competing platform? Would've made more sense if they had just made a God Slayer sequel for the NGPC.
>>3818794
That's a good question, and I have no answer.
I'm not gonna complain though, I though it was a pretty decent port.
Game Boy color was a pretty popular platform that many people owned
>>3818794
NGPC was discontinued in a barely a year after its release, and before Crystalis was released.
Plus the game never got a sequel, it was pretty old… Don't think SNK treated it like a very important IP. Which is not surprising coming from a company that ran iself into the ground and stuck to a 15 year old arcade board till the end.
Im a lucky one who owns the PS1 copy of Klonoa. What happens when you save all the little puzzle people? I've beaten the game already, but now I'm going back to save all the little puzzle people. What happens when I do it?
I don't understand why are you lucky? and gamefaqs.com?
I'm lucky because this http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313.TR2.TRC1.A0.H0.Xklonoa+ps1.TRS0&_nkw=klonoa+ps1&_sacat=0 considering the small price i payed.

wew $100 for a cd-rom
What would (you) do in this situation, /vr/?
>>3817860
I would play out the part fate has written for me.
>"holy shit kain got the final redpill! he's gonna fuck shit up for real this time!"
>nope. the end.
I'm still pissed

As long as Crystal Dynamics exists there still is thatbitter taste of that terrible illusion:hope
Where's the best order to play Castlevania? Are there any games in the series that should be completely avoided?
>>3811290
From the beginning onward. Maybe skip 2.
>>3811303
What's wrong with the second one?
>>3811337
It's different. Like 2D Dark Souls with cryptic dialogue and more unforgiving.
Post games that will never be translated ever, and you wish you could play them.
Really wish I had it in me to learn Japanese.
Even though it can be enjoyed without knowledge of Japanese as a simple flight sim, as a Macross fan it would be really nice to see what kind of story it has going for it since it is apparently canon to the saga. And of course, we haven't had a good Macross show since 2004, so I certainly don't have any faith for that new one coming 2018....
>Really wish I had it in me to learn Japanese.
You think there's some special gift you need to learn it?
All sorts of people have learned it and so can you.

Are there any NES-era RPGs that actually have any semblance of depth or strategy to their combat system?
I love the NES aesthetic but I've been hard pressed to find any RPGs on it that have actual gameplay beyond "spam the standard attack command until you need to use a potion".
There's gotta be at least one oldschool RPG with better combat than that, right?
Fire Emblem
I don't know what exactly you're expecting from NES era rpgs, be happy if you manage to find one that isn't a dragon quest clone (that's why I played FF2, at least it was something original for its time)
Sweet Home is okay if you're looking for a challenge
Madara and Radia Senki are novel because they use a real time combat system
In Samsara Naga you can raise your dragon
try the Ultima III port as well

You posted one.
I know the SuperFamicom/Snes gets more love, but what are your favorite MegaDrive/Genesis games?
For me its
Gunstar Heroes
Landstalker
Warsong/Der Langrisser 1,2
Herzog Zwei
Twinkle Tale
Cyborg Justice
Bad Omen
Gaires
MUSHA
Gynoug
Atomic Robo
Devils Crash
Midnight Resistance
Monster World IV
Gunstar Heroes
Comix Zone
Castlevania Bloodlines
Contra HardCORPS
Alien Soldier
Shinintrg Force 1,2
Streets of Rage 2
Adventures of Batman and Robin
Mutant League Hockey
Arcus Odyssey
Ranger X
Phantasy Star 2,3,4
I have fond memories of playing General Chaos 4 player co-op and 2 vs 2 with a multitap.
If ever a game needed to be updated for modern online multiplayer, this is it.
Road Rash I & II were fun as hell, getting into rivalries with computer controlled opponents then stealing their weapons and beating the shit out of them.

Cool Spot
SNES had it too, but their version really sucked. That's not fanboyism; there really were a lot of things fucked up about that port.
>he saved on a 3rd party memory card
>his files got corrupted
Actually happened to me, twice.
First with a 3rd party "Performance" N64 cart, then with a 4 in 1 Action Replay Saturn cart.
Eventually bought an official N64 memory pak and Saturn official memory cart and so far they're fine.
Now I use the AR cart for pseudosaturn. The 3rd party N64 one doesn't seem to work anymore.
>saved my Pokemon Colosseum file on a third party memory card
>it won't let me move it to a different one
It's just a ticking time bomb.
>>3820580
You can use GCMM on a hacked Wii to back up the memory card and copy the data on it to an official memory card.

This game, this fucking game, I remember all the countless nights that I played it with my brother, it was the best thing ever at the time.

The Soviet campaign was so great. Loved those fmv mission briefings, taking orders from stalin himself. They were so cheesy and self aware. Just a game with so much heart and soul. Also really appreciated how command and conquer always put hot chicks in their games just because.
Aftermath expansion pack was nuts too. Really loved those tesla tanks.
We used to play the game on lan at my friends house where he had two computers hooked up. We had custom maps made and everything with loads of the gem ore so you could make crazy shit fast. Used to be such a good feeling sending out a fleet of planes to destroy your buddy's base.
>"This is very much Castlevania done in the vein of Game of Thrones," Shankar said of the project, noting that Warren Ellis, who wrote the series and is on board as a producer, "added so much depth to the material."
>"[The series is] going to be R-rated as f***," Shankar said of the series' level of violence, as many entries in Konami's game series were rated M for mature due to blood and violence.
>Shankar's discussion of the series' more adult aims reconfirms a 2015 interview in which he said the show would be "America's first animated series for adults."
We're going to have a lot of /vr/ /tv/ crossposting in the near future, aren't we?
>>3817881
And /co/, and well, /v/ as well.
Poor Castlevania series, didn't deserve this.
>>3817876
>America's first animated series for adults
Did they not watch Liquid TV.
ITT: graphically impressive retro games.

>Play like complete shit
What did most games that fall into this category mean by this?
I'm totally having a Mandela effect moment. I swear this show was called Wacky Racers.
>>3811726
not gonna lie, other than the coloured background, this looks like a C64 game.
