First time posting, sorry if i fuck up somehow.
I need your appraisals and opinions on these guys, they are the only games who's prices I can't pinpoint amidst the rental shop collection I'm tryin to appraise and eventually sell.
Zombie Nation has a little muff bottom right (see pic), manual and working cart included
Metal Warriors box looks fine but definitely worn, manual and working cart included
Rockin' Kats(awesome condition), this one is weird because it almost never sells in the box and even much stranger, I may have the only pic of the unfolded poster http://imgur.com/8lFGNNs
All boxes, carts, and manuals have small rental stickers but manuals are in great condition.
Thoughts and opinions?
Thanks!

That's what I did for all games but the prices of these ones were wonky and a rocking kats with poster hasn't been recorded since march 2013. just wanna hear your guys' price opinions. Also the purple squiggly lines are from my phone.

ITT: Things that you never noticed in retro games.

I've beaten Ocarina Of Time almost 20 times over the years, on various platforms, and I've even done 100% runs and 3 heart runs, and things like that, but I literally just noticed that Link has the triforce marking on his hand during the final cutscene.

I only learned just the other week that guards in Ocarina will yell at you if you shoot the windows in the courtyard in your pic.

>I only learned just the other week that guards in Ocarina will yell at you if you shoot the windows in the courtyard in your pic.

And that's a missable event that gets written to your save file. (Meaning you can't repeat it upon returning to the courtyard.)

There are also some missable rupees here. I think they're either in the same window, or the opposite one.

Another curiosity about that area: The rupees that appear during the stealth section before the courtyard get randomized each time you redo that section. Collecting them never permanently removes them from the game, either.

I'm from '98, and missed out on most of retro classics. I'm trying to catch up now, but most of retro games feel impossible to me without some sort of walkthrough. How do i get better at old games so that i don't need guides anymore?

Don't use a guide in the first place.

Practice.

It's how we all got good.

Be patient, bro. If you can learn to indulge rather than think you're better than everything you'll be able to become a better person.

By the way, what game's giving you trouble?
>>
>>3917280
I'll use Deus ex as an example, idk if it's really considered retro or not, but
>couldn't finish first quest for 5 hours of gameplay because either got lost or fucked over by the weird game mechanics
I just gave up past that point.

has anyone but me played this unknown gem?

what are some other good lesser known racers?

Do you prefer pad or stick for bullet hell games? Personally, I prefer stick whenever possible because I feel like I have more precise control.

>>
whichever feels the most natural for you.

I <3 my Seimitsu stick, but I when I'm out I take my PSP with me and play the Gradius collection, Dodonpachi, Cotton, etc.

If anything I'm probably more skilled on the PSP simply because I spend more time with it.

Retro arch releases for wii are definitely buggy. Sometimes a core will work in earlier versions as be broken in others, amongst other bullshit.

Which version is best for neo geo? Which is best for PC engine cd? Overall?
21 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
Don't waste your time trying to use RetroArch on the Wii. The standalone emulators for various consoles offer as good or better emulation and UI that are actually designed specifically for the Wii.
>>
>>3916429
Do the stand alone emulators display correct resolutions? I haven't had any issues since I started using Retroarch on the Wii a year ago.
>>
>>3916442
If by correct resolution you mean 240p, yes.

I can get through Level 1 pretty well but I can't manage to qualify in even one track on Level 2.

Since the tracks repeat after level 1 I guess I've basically experienced almost everything Road Rash 2 has to offer now that I think about it. Checking out the PS1 version now.

>>3916158

That site produces shitty ROM hacks that just turn enemies into beefgates.
>>
>>3916171

It's still the first major SotN romhack.

>turn enemies into beefgates.

Typically. But for this game, I'm still one or two shotting everything.

Can the PS2 play imported PS1 games?
>>
SDKs can play unsigned software since the beginning of time. "Unsigned" means imports or pirate games, yes.
Now to get your hands on one...
>>
>>3915374
I imagine it still has the laser burnout issues. Besides any psx can play imports safely with a gameshark

okay, im going to propose something that might get me chased out of here with burning torches so before that happens let me apologize in advance. I'm just asking because im an idiot

lets say you have a retro console you want to play on a HDTV, but you really like the oldskool crt look. would it be possible to have some kind of postprocessing hardware that patches between the console and TV and creates that effect like a shader would in an emulator? i imagine some kind of lightweight computer with a remote that allows you to open menus to modify shader settings, even load new shaders in through a usb cable or something?

like i said i know this is goofy but its just a thought i keep coming back to. especially for people who maybe dont want to go all in for a CRT, but get a kick out of playing games running on original hardware.

Were Ys to be released earlier in the West, would it be as popular as Zelda worldwide nowadays?
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
No because it's not by Nintendo.
It got released for the SMS in 88 and various computers in 89.
>>
Timing wasn't the problem, I think. They shouldn't have released it on the Master System and the TurboGrafx-CD. If they had released Ys 1 and 2 on the NES/SNES in the West, Ys would have been huge. Not Zelda huge, but huge nonetheless.
>>
>tfw I can't get into any Ys past Wanderers from Ys
It's like I have this mental block that the series should have ended then and there instead of dragging on till this day.

what went wrong?
6 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
unrecoverable dead-ends
some really random events that are basically luck based

you can tell it was headed by a girl, basically. very fantastical and imaginative but also lots of tard game design choices.
>>
The series became progressively worse and more generic as it went on. Didn't help that competition took the ideas and themes from the earlier KQ games and did way more with them than Sierra ever did.
>>
It was a product of it's era, and the first five at least have not aged well. The first game had more problems than I have time to describe. The second game has a bridge you can only cross X times, punishing exploration and experimentation. The third game was a clusterfuck that punished you for not being at a certain place every 10-15 minutes. The fourth game takes place in real-time, and you only get one shot to do certain tasks at certain times. And while the fifth game was far prettier than the earlier ones, and at one point the best selling PC game of all time, it is so chock full of bullshit that no adventure gamer has recommended it since KQ6 came out. Oh, you didn't know you had to save a mouse from that cat? Looks like you are never getting out of the Inn's basement hours into the game later! Hell, you manage to get past the worst of the bullshit, and in the final maze the big bad can randomly teleport in at any time and kill you.

I like adventure games and all, but KQ didn't really get good until 6. Still better than the PQ games though. PQ3, I'm looking specifically at you.

Outside nightfire this was the best bond game.

Yes I know Goldeneye was a better shooter, but James Bond is more than just about shooting. It's about wearing stylish outfits, driving bitchin cars and shooting badguys while delivering stupid one liners.

On the Bond factor front this game delivered better than any of the three old school bond games. It had diverse levels, cool vehicles, stylish outfits, satisfying weapon sounds and enemy death sounds (*pew* *pew* *pew* *AAAAUUUUUURGH*) and most importantly a part where you could shoot guys and they'd fall into printing presses (this is important) and it had an overall aesthetic to it as well. Kind of like that picture of the Heckler and Kock p7 and the 90s cellphone that I can't find right now. That aesthetic.

And that fucking soundtrack. holy shit that soundtrack was fire.

TWINE for N64 would have been great if it didn't have such dull and boring levels, but that's because the movie was so fucking boring.

My man TND had interesting aesthetic and atmosphere but gameplay was pure garbage. It was literally unplayable. But I will admit that the car level was absolutely amazing and that getting in that mig29 and BTFOing everyone around you was also kinda nice.
I have nostalgia for it, sure, but TWINE on ps1 is ten times better. Can't comment on n64 version but fuck those memespouters who think its better when they are completely different games.

Nightfire is also overrated, single player is boring as fuck on both ps2 and pc. Everything or Nothing is the king of ps1/2 Bond games. TWINE and From Russia With Love come close.

PS2 version of Quantum of Solace is an underrated shooter, absolutely phenomenal.

Nightfire and Agent Under Fire can go suck a bag of dicks.
>>
I remember like 2 years ago I've played The world is not enough and Tomorrow never dies. While I've finished both I liked better the FPS of The world is not enough than the third person perspective of TND. Both were great to include clips of their respectives movies.
>>
>>3914872
The targeting in TND was garbage I'll give you that, but TWINE had such boring levels and that one dying sound doesn't do it for me. I need *OOOH* and *AAAAIIIIRRGH* not just *AAAAUUU*

After defeating the two lizards and raising the platform as a shortcut in dodongos cavern I really feel like this game is ahead of its time.

Anyone else agree???

>>
Well, yeah, OOT influenced many 3rd person action games with swords, Souls being one of them.
>>
OoT/OoT3D is still the definitive action game if you think about it. No video game touches the sheer scope of interaction it has except Twilight Princess (yes, I'm including BotW). But Master Quest is the better version as far as fights are concerned.

I've never beaten the game without dying a least twice before Ganon's Castle to Stalfos.
