Is it the ultimate PS1 console?

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

Is it true that the PS1 blue debugging launch system plays both Japanese imports and American NTSC ps1 games??
>>
>>3915374
Can the PS2 play imported PS1 games?
>>
SDKs can play unsigned software since the beginning of time. "Unsigned" means imports or pirate games, yes.
Now to get your hands on one...
>>
>>3915374
I imagine it still has the laser burnout issues. Besides any psx can play imports safely with a gameshark
>>
Or you can get a dirt cheap console and a dirt cheap modchip and do it yourself. Soldering is easy.
>>
>>3915501
You really need to fit both 4.43 and 3.58mhz oscillators to do it properly though.
>>
>>3915431
Stock PS2s are region locked for all games, even PS1 games.
>>
>>3915540
or just get RGB signal from the console.
or ignore PAL exclusive titles, because only a handful of them are worth playing.
>>
>>3915374
>ps1
you posted a picture of a psx, kid.

You still get slowdown and odd incompatibility issues unless you fit the appropriate oscillator and supporting components.

Ideally you'd want a later PU-8 board with the space for both.

My japanese SCPH-1001 that I bought back in 1996 which was already modchipped could play any kind of games of all regions and bootlegs.
Too bad the laser died eons ago, but I still keep it, also its cute smaller japanese controller.
>>
>>3915751
for the record, I tried settling the PSXPSPS1PSOne debate on the other thread. Looking forward to seeing how this goes over...

Those Japanaese launch controllers are REALLY fucking rare you know...

Why don't you stick a KSM-440BAM laser assembly from a PSOne in it?
>>
Is the Yaroze region free?
>>
>>3915803
Yes but it won't play backups
>>
>>3915789
Rarer than the Dual Analog?
>>
>>3915858
A lot rarer, yes

So you can run your own code but not anyone else's? Interesting
>>
>>3915937
I fucking hate it when companies make it hard to pirate games on their machines.
It's not fucking fair. Am I expected to fake it somehow? Shitheads.
>>
>>3915957
Just makes it quite an insular device that's all. Maybe you can run code from other Yaroze's? It's tagged in some way?

For us non-underage folk, this is the PSX.
>>
>>3916002
I was 16 when the machine launched.

Whilst I was aware that some sources (erroneously) referred to it as the PSX it was always a PlayStation to me.
>>
>>3915374
No. The SCPH-1000 has an error loading certain kinds of textures so some games will have inaccurate graphics. It also has the inferior laser assembly design that will wear out over less time than later models.

The best PlayStation is the PSone with a mod chip in it.

The blue ones are pretty cool tho
>>
>>3916060
*the blue PlayStation has the model # DTL-H1000 but it is functionally the same as the SCPH-1000 other than firmware.
>>
>>3916060
The best overall is the SCPH-555x with a modchip.
>>
>>3916002
I'm born in 1990 and I still call it PS1

>>
>>3915431
Yes if you mod or soft mod the console with FMCB.
>>
>>3916007
>erroneously
Culture develops semantics, not the other way around. PSX is fine.
>>
There's a funny story about the creator of Crash Bandicoot going to SCE in Japan and writing "PSX" in one of the surveys in a meeting, and Ken Kutaragi ripping the paper in half and telling him to rewrite it with "PS", without the X.
>>
>>3916002
For us non-underage folk, we recognize that there is a real device actually called the PSX and that >>3915737 is it.

We also have no problem referring to the system in your image as a PlayStation, PS, or PS1.
>>
>>3916007
I was about 15 at the time. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I never heard people say "PSX" at school and I never saw it written to me on AIM or anything like that. I don't know why some people are so desperate to push this PSX idea. Maybe it's a European thing? We used to write 'ps' all the time and say "playstation."
>>
>>3916076

I was born in 1986 and I've never called it anything other than PlayStation and PS1.

Seriously, I don't think this is an "underaged" thing.
Maybe it's just a regional thing or maybe it depends on what shitty message board you were using back then

I clearly enjoyed PS1 during my childhood and you during your pre-teen era and we call it PS1, but im sure there's others who grew up with it too calling it PSX
>>
>>3916223
yeah fuck those guys. nobody says psi at school neither. i agree with this >>3916481
guy
>>
>>3916481
PSX was always an industry term. only the gaming magazines called it that. the thing is, they ALL called it that.
>>
>>3916002
I said psx or playstation when talking about it.
>>3916076
>>3916508
Why would you call it ps1 when playstation 2 didn't launch until 2000 anyway?
>>
>>3916646
It was just "playstation" or "ps" before ps2

also, i don't think i had internet access+computer til like 1999 anyways, so the era of the internet without knowing about ps2 was pretty damn short (for me)
>>
>>3915736
with the right PIC modchip, you can mod a switch in to use the console's oscillator and switch to the PIC for the other frequency.

Honestly though, PAL games are mostly terrible.
NTSC all the way.
>>
was born in 1987 in England
PlayStation was referred to as PSX in all printed media
was confused the first time i saw it but then realised it was completely normal
>>
>>3915968
On the Net Yaroze, you run your code through the serial I/O port linked to your PC. The Net Yaroze SDK also lacked many features necessary for CD access except for maybe streaming Red Book CD audio.
>>
>>3915374
Jesus fuck, you're not gonna need a debug system just to play region free.
>>
>>3916508

The PSX abbreviation for the PS1 pissed me off even back in the day.

Can't remember the exact month or anything, pretty sure it was during late 1998, but I know I wrote in to a PlayStation magazine telling them to stop calling the PS1 a PSX because the actual PSX was a Japan-only DVR hybrid console. I even wrote the web address for the Wikipedia article in my letter.
>>
>>3916901
>pretty sure it was during late 1998
>I even wrote the web address for the Wikipedia article in my letter
Wikipedia wasn't founded until 2001 though.
>>
>>3916901
It has to be easy later than that, because the PSX DVR was a PS2. It didn't come out until 2003.

But putting that aside, I never called the PlayStation "PSX" myself, but I clearly remember seeing it in gaming magazines and on game cases at the video store I frequented. I never really understood where the "X" came from. Similarly, I really dislike the "GCN" abbreviation for the GameCube.
>>
>>3916931
>has to be easy
Way, not easy. Phoneposting and all.
>>
>>3916481
The Magazines refered to it as PSX at the time, but no one in real life did. Plenty of people online on gamefaqs/other sites called it PSX though.
>>
>>3916901

Bit pointless really.
