Playing this for the first time in 2017... it's actually pretty fun. I think I actually enjoyed this more than Metal Gear Solid.
I remember getting this on launch day. High quality sleeper hit.
The PS1 Syphon Filter games aged better than I thought they would.
-decent voice acting
-intriguing story with lots twists along the way
-nice variety of weapons and gadgets
-awesome graphics: nice explosions, lighting effects, and blood decals (something that MGS1 lacked)
-snappy, responsive controls with great auto-targeting, rolling, strafing, and first person targeting
-using the taser never gets old
-amazing soundtrack
I will admit, the 3rd game is definitely the weakest of the trilogy, but is still a decent game. I have never played the PS2 or PSP games, so I don't know if they're any good, but all I know is I love the PS1 trilogy.

No you didn't.
So SNES and NES sprites were limited to 16x16, except when they weren't. Explain how.
Joining sprites together
>>3922314
SNES sprites were limited to 16x16?
>>3922314
From the dev manual:
Two different sized objects (nintendo's word for their sprite primitive) can appear on the same scanline. This is set by register $2101 OBJSEL bits 5-7. The choices are as follows:
000 = 8x8, 16x16
001 = 8x8, 32x32
010 = 8x8, 64x64
011 = 16x16, 32x32
100 = 16x16, 64x64
101 = 32x32, 64x64
110 = 16x32, 32x64 (undocumented)
111 = 16x32, 32x32 (undocumented)
Character data (nintendo's word for nxn pixel tiles) is organized and accessed in a special way. You see your own image, OP? Actually, when you use anything bigger than the 8x8 smallest unit, the PPU (nintendo's word for GPU) access memory in such a way as to grab, for instance, 2x2 8x8 pixel characters to form a 16x16 character.
Furthermore, as >>3922320 says, objects can be made to move in tandem. Mario, for instance, is something like 6 or so objects moving together in formation constantly.
So the NES Classic has just been discontinued and every scalper simultaneously came in their pants.
Seriously, fucking Nintendo man.
Oh no! Now how will I play NES games?!

>SHe uses Save States in classic video games
Yeah, any usage of save states is a dangerous slippery slope. I stopped using them completely a few years ago, and it has increased my enjoyment of games a lot. Even if I'm playing a game without passwords, when I shut off the emulator it effectively means shutting down the console. Without straight-up collecting it's a decent way to get immersed into "authentic" gameplay.

If she enjoys it. Why do you care? As long as people play and enjoy the games. Im a consoledude btw... I don't want to be in an exclusive club. I want people to enjoy these amazing games
What's some good games for the ZX Spectrum? I'm trying to understand the appeal of it over the C64, Amiga, or Amstrad CPC aside from it being the cheapest by far
>>3921268
For starters it has the games Rare/Ultimate made for it, like Jetpac.
>>3921268
It had Manic Miner. Other than that, not a lot of competent programming, aside from the aforementioned Ultimate Play the Game.
>>3921268
Wow, never knew that thing looks so awesome.
It's really pretty.
Can we have a FM thread?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLIoVhSRguk
As far as I know, this is the best game in the series. Anyone disagree?
>>3921460
Lots of customization, but overall I found it too easy. I would spend a lot of time min-maxing my shit and tweaking the mechs just right, only to feel that it wasn't necessary at all to beat the game. Never really felt threatened once in a whole playthrough. So the gameplay is great, I just wish it challenged you more. Hows the SNES FM? I want to get a copy but it's pretty expensive. Could always emulate though
>>3921460
except for the crash bugs and the fact that it takes such a huge amount of time to play
What's your favorite game from SEGA's biggest commercial failure?Do you need an Action Replay for installing Pseudo Saturn, or can it be on any memory cart?
Use this chart. Anything that is on another console, play it on that console. The multi-platform games were almost always the worst on Saturn besides 2-d games, but most of them were Neo Geo or Capcom Arcade games that are better off played on MAME.
Also, Guardian Heroes and Radiant Silvergun have great HD remakes.
>>3920320
master system and dreamcast were bigger flops
best games are cotton boomerang and astra superstars

20 million units speaks otherwise.
Anyone have success burning tsop chips with a minipro burner?
I ordered a couple 29f033c chips and board adapters, presoldered from buyicnow, and can't get them to read, or erase (says they do, but no). I've disabled ID check, because without that they error immediately.
I also have a tsop ADP -073 burner adapter, that fits the tsops directly, for a Willem, with the same result. Pictured.
Ideas what I may be doing wrong?
I've read up on burning SNES games with a Willem but different burners and adapters are used.
Please no emulate or everdrive posts (que them now).
>>3918342
You should be able to ID the chip. The problem is most likely poor connection on the pins. It usually takes me a while before the contact is right.
Other issues can be:
Have you set the jumpers right?
Updated software?
Bad eeprom?
Also there are custom snes pcbs online which are far easier to make than the TSOP method. I've got a bunch from retrostage and they work fine.
>>3918342
If you can't ID the chip then they aren't reading fine, which is possibly the result of bad connection or dead chips. Did you connect the chip to the socket properly? Is it in the correct orientation? Some chips may also be thinner than the socket itself (I had that with 29c040s).
Adapter may also need to be jumpered correctly, check that too.
>Please no emulate or everdrive posts (que them now).
I don't know what you do with your programmer, but if you are using them solely for burning SNES games, then a flashcart would be way cheaper. I know because I made myself a socketed cart for the exact same reason, and it ended up costing more than the chink everdrives, while being way less flexible. Granted I was using UV EPROMs, but still.
THEY MISSPELLED TREACHERY. THEY FORGOT COMMAS. WERE THESE COMPANIES REALLY SO STUPID THAT THEY COULDN'T PAY SOMEONE FIVE DOLLARS TO PROOFREAD?
>>3918323
>1 typo
>hyphen instead of a comma
Not a big deal, especially since the game was such a success.
>>3918323
It's charming, fuck off. Go boot up Zelda if you really want to have a conniption.
>>3918323
i miss when raiden was a badass god who didn't give a shit and was just fucking up mortals for lulz. then they turned him into some incompetent tryhard do-gooder with a thick skull that gets outsmarted by lesser beings constantly
Post good Commodore 64 games this time.
I can't get into this game. It feels so clunky compared to the Nintendo DS Castlevanias. How do I get into it?
Don't know what you're talking about because the DS ones are rigid and clunky af
>>3914145
it is exactly the opposite, you flamboyant homosexual
how young are you?
>>3914145
It was the first game in the Metroid-vania series. Later titles are more polished from a gameplay standpoint. But that's because they had 6 titles, and 10 years to work on it.
Breath of fire thread
Just started IV today, pretty damn good. At the part where I rescued the mayor of the town full of traps from a giant beast. Art is gorgous but soundtrack is okay. Either way really enjoying it so far.
I've been slogging through 2 for a few months now. I just can't get invested in it.
I've started playing BoF IV too since my BoF III save file got corrupted after reaching the checkpoint where you fight Mikba.
Anyways, any tips at this game or it is just as easy as the third one?
>>3914121
Easy too.
In an interview abput DQ I remember a dev saying they were trying to make the game more difficult since most said III and IV were easy. If you want more difficulty maybe try that. Though so far I'm still quite enjoying IV. I tried III but got bored around the time shift. So far this one feels more interesting.
Some dude on the /vr/ discord recommended me this game, and so far, I'm having a blast. Any of you other anons played this before?
>>3912746
I know I need to git gud, but jeez is this guy hard
>>3912746
Fairly well regarded around these parts.
Y'all want to design a pinball machine?

Yeah. Something cool with not too much art and with iconic music.
Bloodsport themed table when?
Sure. Go ahead and whip us up one that has multiple fields, unique mechanical features and multiball.
