Anyone waiting for this? I've beated it a couple of times many years ago, but I really want to do it again in HD with the extras.
What do you think about the game? I think is great, even with his flaws. I like the story and the tone of the game, It's atmosphere is amazing.
Also I never had a problem with it being short, I take it as an action movie you see a sunday afternoon.

Anyone around here into old Nintendo books and comics? Really liked these when I was a kid even though they're pretty goofy and dumb.
Anyway, took some time the other day to scan in Super Mario Bros. No. 1 - always loved the cover art on this one. This is literally the first thing I have ever scanned so hopefully it's not ass. I didn't do any post-processing but I did upload a light pdf and the original pages as png if anyone is interested.

My copy is pretty clean but not pristine. Still, there are some blemishes in the art itself probably due to the age and budget and stuff so this is a pretty good representation of how a new copy of this looked. All of the panel outlines are hand-drawn lines and the boxes themselves are not always straight or aligned to the page borders making some of the panels appear slightly crooked on the page. The colors themselves must have been printed in different phases because they don't always totally align which makes some of the art look a little weird. You wouldn't notice this unless you zoomed-in pretty far, though, so it's not like the book is unreadable. It is clearly a product of it's time.
I have a sizable collection of comics and books which I would like to scan for my own collection and I'll share if there's interest. Just trying to give back something here - I'm always digitally hoarding this shit myself when I find it.

For example, my nephew came over last weekend and was excited to play Super Mario Bros. 3 for about twelve hours with me. Go back and actually listen to it. Notice how all the "meme" worthy lines are mostly Dracula right? The "what is a man" is a bit odd, and that voice actor is pretty theatrical. Sucubus lets off an orgasm upon death. And the Devil Familliar's voice is just awful.
Other than that, it's pretty solid. Maria is good. And Alucard is just absolutely perfect.

What the fuck was Rare thinking? It would have been fine if the Tribals were an optional collectible to unlock some cool reward for 100% runs - you know, like normal games - but why in God's name did they think it would be a good idea to force you to collect every last one of them in order to beat the game? Not only that, but they don't even tell you that you have to collect all of them until towards the end, meaning that unless you knew ahead of time, you would likely have been passing most of them up on your first run through.

That's the idea, by the end of the game you get new powerups that let you explore new places in old levels. I don't think you can get all of them on your first run before you get the jetpack upgrade, for example.
It is annoying to be forced to 100% the game in order to beat the final boss, but on the other hand it isn't as terrible or as "collecthaton" as people thing. Most of these creatures are well hidden on the levels, or placed in strategic places where you need to think ahead on how to save them, because they might die in the crossfire if there's enemies around, so it's kind of like a rescue mission which actually kind of works, but yeah it should have been an optional thing.
I personally thought finding the spaceship part was more annoying, which also wasn't "collectathon" because each part is well hidden, some better than others, and if you're not consulting a guide it's hard.

4:3 LCD's were pretty much only a thing back when the technology was still stuck in it's infancy back when refresh rates were still a lot worse than on modern ones and therefore input lag is more of a problem, horrible ghosting was pretty much a usual thing on any set and the inbuilt scalers were even more shitty than the ones built into mordern TVs

Remakes:

So many old games have gotten remakes. It's a shitty meme and almost NEVER works out right. They're trying to cash in on nostalgia, but doing it wrong. Examples: Resident Evil, Rondo of Blood, Mega man, Mega Man X, Earthworm Jim, Duck Tales.
Enhanced ports:

>change aspect ratio to 16:9
>Add new content
>add all sorts of options
>enhancements while still staying true to the original
Remakes are the wrong way to go about it. Enhanced ports are how it's done. Examples: Taxman's Sonic 1, 2, and CD ports, Tactics Ogre, and Turok 1/2.
Then build NEW games that work on the spirit of the old games, but are original. Examples: Mega Man 9/10, Ultimate Ghost n GOblins, Sonic Mania. This avoids comparisons to the original, and allows them to stand alone.

Facility is junk from a competitive standpoint. Too linear, too easy to turtle at either end and camp the good weapons and armor. It's more of a "goof around" level where people did fun stuff like defending the bathroom as a fort.
Even as a casual player I enjoyed Library more because you can really spread out with 4 players and cross paths in interesting ways.
