Hos come there aren't any new controllers of decent quality for the NES, or any other retro console for that matter, that isn't just plain copies of the original? The only new ones for the NES I can find besides famiclone ones that break really quickly are copies of the original NES controller, complete with sharp edges that dig into your hands, dpad that sucks for games where you move it in circles, and no turbo buttons.
I see this question so often I swear to Christ I'm going to start building arcade sticks in shiny boxes from brand new Sanwa parts specifically dedicated to the memest of meme consoles and selling them for $95 a pop.
>>3914187
What sharp edges? Dude if controllers hurt you, quit video games now.
Children played NES just fine for HOURS. You have weaker hands than a child. That's sad.
>>3914210
It's still an awful design though, and it would be nice if there was some variety like under the console's lifespan.
Why do Japanese Zelda games (usually) have cooler subtitles than the American and PAL versions? Also, Zelda region differences general.
That's just a thing with japanese games in general.
Nintendo's marketing team sucks. They seem to be under the impression that English gamers prefer generic titles and shitty logo designs that are recycled from one sequel to another.
Everything up to the Oracles games uses virtually the same cut-and-paste logo on a bland gold background. The Japanese releases were nothing like this.
>>3913763
I know, but I'm a big Zelda dork.
Is this game bad?
No, it's super hard by design but on a technical level it's very solid.
>>3913280
>Your music skills are impressive.
Follin again.
>>3913280
In my opinion, yes it is bad, BUT...
It could have been good if only it had autofire and more forgiving hitboxes.
I recommend playing it on an emulator using turbo button press and the rewind function for bullshit deaths. The game is actually enjoyable that way.
>we will NEVER return to classic RE
feels fuckin bad man

Holy shit literally god tier taste there mate
>CVX on the bottom where it deserves
>RE2 low tier
>RE3 high tier
>Outbreak god tier
Based taste.
Outbreak sucked.

I never understood the hate for Code: Veronica (unless you only meant the shitty PS2 port with the extra Wesker cutscenes).
You might not know it if you haven’t been hanging around the PCEFX forums, but following our translation of the PC-FX's only shooter, Zeroigar, elmer and I have been hard at work over the past year on simultaneously translating two PC Engine CD ARPGs by Nihon Falcom, The Legend of Xanadu and The Legend of Xanadu II.
Well, there is exciting news: we're essentially finished. All of the hacking, translating, editing and graphical work is done, and it looks great. There is one more big task that remains, however, and that’s making an English dub for the voiced parts.
Of course, it would be preferable to make subtitles, but given the constraints of the hardware, that just isn't possible. We'll release the scripts, but a dub is the only way people will be able to experience the The Legend of Xanadu in a normal way.
Would you be interested in lending your voice to these fantastic games? Do you know anyone else who might be? Please have a look at our character list page, where you'll find everything you need to audition. There are roughly fifty parts to fill, some large, some small, and we’re going to need a broad cast of actors to pull this off. When we do, though, it’s going to be something really special.

The dub-scripts are 100% finished, and the audio project files are completely set up with BGM, sound effects, and every clip-position marked. Literally the only thing left to do is copy and paste a few hundred clips after people get them recorded and sent to us.
The initial casting period will end May 19th. Feel free to ask any questions. We hope to hear from you soon!
Man this sounds awesome, unfortunately I'm an ESL peasant with a nasal voice and no experience in voice acting.
I know there are someyoutubersthat would gladly lend their voices to such a project however.cr1tikal https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwGsooVELY8https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6CowTNBv0LSBXoLMv3aSJg/videos jobby
Sorry if this doesn't help, can only wish you luck on this
Huh. Never thought I'd find a job offer here on /vr/.

>but a dub is the only way people will be able to experience the The Legend of Xanadu in a normal way.
Knowing Japanese is not normal? I get that some people are too lazy to learn to read but the voice acting in these games is really not hard to follow.
What are some absolute MUST have accessories for retro games?
dreamcast green goblin
>>3912456
Not that. I guess it's great if you have a SNES controller fetish but it's absolutely not a must have. A must have would be decent arcade sticks or a decent one with adapters.
I think most people would consider flash carts a must have. Certainly a CD for a TG/PCE.
>>3912458
It's probably the best DC specific stick but it's not a great stick. Personally I use a 0130 and a pair of TC3s.
Memory cards
N64 expansion pack
Everything else is optional.
You know the drill: Post good music from retro games here.

Besides a traumatic brain injury, is there any other legitimate reason to buy a jamma board over a raspberry pi3?
>falling for the raspberry meme
>>3912172
Arcade PCB emulation is spotty as far as I know. For instance, Primal Rage still is not emulated properly.
>>3912174
So a jamma board is not a meme & the raspberry pi is a meme? Do i want a meme or not?
Lets discuss /vr/ games that we never beat and why.
Double Dragon - I was never able to get past Machine Gun Willey, I can go through the entire game without losing a life up to that point, but I am never able to get more than a couple of hair pulling attacks on Willey before he kills me.
Double Dragon II: The Revenge - I was never able to get to the true final boss on supreme master difficulty. I beat the game once on normal difficulty but I cannot get past the ninjas before shadow billy on supreme difficulty. I can pull of the special moves consistently, but I have difficulty landing them on the ninjas.
Comix Zone.
That one part during the snow level, where you're hanging on the rope and have to fight some bats while an asshole throws something at you. I believe an e-celeb goes off about it, only I'm pretty sure he managed to get past that part. Actually I'm not sure if anyone actually has but it really feels like one of those moments you can ramble on and on about.
>You need to break all the Electoon cages to open the last level
Oh, fuck off.
StarOcean 2. I got to the final guy and he kept summoning a wave that did 9999 to everyone, instant game over. Tried for weeks but just gave up finally.
The real Samus Aran has green hair and wears a magenta leotard. That blonde woman you see in newer games is just an actress the Galactic Federation uses for their propaganda.

I finally just got round to completing Shenmue II. So let's discuss all things Shenmue!

I have a feeling it won't just stay a simple revenge story, and that there's something bigger to it.

2 was a real fantastic experience. I loved the people Ryo met, the story, everything.
Though maybe I might go with 1 as my favorite because it had that real mysterious atmoshphere.
In conclusion I love them both.
Do you think they'll ever put Sega Racers on PS4? Because I want to play as Ryo.
I also want Ryo as a playable character in Virtua Fighter.

Previous thread >>3876442
This thread is for the spirited discussion of CRT displays - Televisions, monitors and projectors used for the playing of retro games!
>Try to keep it /vr/-related: Nothing past 5th gen(+ Dreamcast). Slight OT might be okay if related to CRTs (E.G. 16:9 compatible models, flatscreens, etc.) Systems with backwards compatibility are also pretty safe territory, assuming you're focusing on the older games. PC CRTs are also a-ok.
>Produce OC! Get out your real cameras and take beautiful pictures of your CRTs displaying recognizable characters with the kind of beautiful accuracy that brings tears to the eyes of young and old alike! If you take 100 photos, at least one of them will turn out alright! (maybe)
>Try to be as detailed as possible when asking info on a specific model. As always, google is your friend, and we are your friends with benefits. Older archived threads aren't a bad place to look either.
>Share appreciation for others choice of technology and personal philosophy of gaming. As always show courtesy in your discussion and moderate yourselves first.
Discussion of video processing and scaling devices is okay, but try to keep the focus on CRTs and CRT accessories

What the fuck was the point of S-video again? Couldn't they just add RGB input to North American sets instead of making up a pointless standard?

>>3901481
svideo was introduced with SVHS and Hi-8. You couldn't store uncompressed RGB on tape.
