Last time you went to meet the local organized crime, found an eighteen year old kid and an old nutjob instead. Gwynn terrified the old man until he cried uncle, and the kid just didn't know what was going on. You went shopping with the Faerie Lady, and she picked you out some very nearly not crazy clothes. You did meet the actual boss of the local outfit, arranged for a heist, and took Timmy along with you. You decided to steal an ancient figurine, sealed your first faerie contract, had some late dinner with your crew, and as a side-note, pulled off a flawless heist. You got paid and ran back off to your safe-house, as the Crimson King very nearly found you. Panting and pained in the Neon Elvii is where the last installment of the quest concluded.

How's y'all's doing? This is the bonus thread to make up for the fact that I won't be able to run next Sunday.

Now, let us get back to the story.

You slam the doors of the Neon Elvii behind you, and as it is the very middle of the night, the party is in full swing. The headache caused by the infections insanity of the Crimson King is soon replaced by an oncoming headache caused by a room lit in colorful neon and nothing else.

Gwynn is next to you, standing tall and looking regal as ever, but you are far from certain that she did flinch for a moment back there. As the fear subsides, you remember the suitcase you're carrying and that it has forty thousand dollars in it. The case is fancy too, you estimate that it would cost three or four grand in itself. If nothing else, your money troubles are gone.

You remember where you are and what the neon means. You are as safe as you can be, the Crimson King seems to pay reverence to the other one and has not set his foot on the floor of the casino.

You take a breath. The heist is done. You have to get back to planning. Hell, this is starting to feel a lot like your old life.

As a man in a black latex suit and a viking helmet walks by you, you amend: A little like your old life.

>If you cannot leave the Elvii safely you cannot do anything. Ask Gwynn how to shield or hide yourself from the Crimson King.
>You've got real solid cash on hand, you can start thinking about serious shopping for gear and entertainment. Make a list.
>Gamble a little.
>Easy come, easy go. Bet the suitcase on black at the roulette table.
>It's been a long damned night. Go to sleep, plan in the morning.

How important is it to increase the player base of roleplaying games?

Is it to the level where it's necessary for us to think up ways to bring more players into the hobby, or is it actually something we should actively avoid?

Why would you want to actively avoid introducing people that are genuinely interested to a hobby that you enjoy?
>>
>>48703788
To avoid altering the composition of the population would be the main reason.

The foremost complaint of the ancient grognard is that change is bad, which is why they resist mainstream acceptance of games and hate new players entering their hobby without them spending the time and effort to learn the nuances and subtleties of their culture.
>>
>>48703788
Define "genuinely interested."

If games are more accessible, people with a casual interest in them will end up playing them. If they're difficult to access, only people who are dedicated to the concept will pursue them.

I'm personally happy to see a more casual roleplaying community, but some people may resist that because some companies may decide to try and broaden their intended demographic without careful consideration, pandering to people who don't even care about the game while alienating its original players.

What's your personal favourite alignment to play? You know, the one you default to if possible.

I really enjoy Lawful Neutral when I can play it. There's something pure about the rigid enforcement of the law above all else, in all cases, with no exceptions.

I like Lawful Evil and Neutral Evil. You play it like you would a normal person, but nobody can tell you you're out of alignment for killing defeated enemies, etc. The most pragmatic choice is the 'correct' one for LE and NE.

I like either Lawful or Chaotic Good. I prefer to play good characters, but it generally depends on the type of game and/or character.

>Player Reference: "Amazon characters must always be female. NO EXCEPTIONS!"

Does shit like this bother anyone else? To me, one of the biggest underlying components of the roleplaying framework is the wide diversity of choices available to the player. Not every class has to be represented in terms of absolute historical propriety. These restrictions only seem to inhibit imaginative storytelling rather than adding flavor to the setting.

For example, what if one of my players wanted to roleplay an ambiguous male character who was reared by an Amazonian tribe. There's nothing necessarily stopping a biological man from understanding and embracing the Amazons' cultural values. A society so fixated on femininity might not actually be concerned with physical gender, but rather which gender role their followers most embody.

Of course, the GM can just house-rule any such restrictions right out the door, but I don't see why rulebooks need to go out of their way to establish these kinds of barriers to roleplaying in the first place.

Are you familiar with Old World of Darkness? Particularly Werewolf: The Apocolypse?

One of the Tribes is the all Female Tribe called Black Furies. The only way they have males is if they are Metis (i.e. they are inbreed children of two full werewolves fucking which is akin to incest) mostly because they are sterile and can't have children but that's a way you can have a male Black Furie.
>>
>>48688936
The thing about Amazons is that they are, as a rule, a female-dominated society. A male isn't equal to a female - in fact, the reason most Amazon societies are formed is from refugees or reactionaries from a highly mysoginistic society.

If you have a male being equal in an Amazon society, that society isn't an Amazon society. It's just a matriarchy.
>>
I like enforced gender roles, but also believe exceptions should exist. Exceptions exist because rules exist. Player characters can always be exceptions, as they are the extraordinary ones.

Have you ever tried giving enemies class levels to spice up encounters? How has it worked out for you?

>>
>>48693563
Sure thing. I had a BBEG that was basically a high level Monk/Warlock of Kelemvor, but was being tricked by Cyric into turning away from his faith in exchange for power.

Anyways, the party barbarian definitely didn't shrug off Hex +Flurry of Blow shenanigans.

It was also a multi-tiered, "not-even-my-final-form" type fight that involved summoning shades that would grapple everyone but only had like 1 HP each that he could summon back to heal himself. Fun times.
>>
yep. did it with an adventuring party of orcs that trapped themselves in a dungeon after they realized that the ogres they came to parley with had been turned into zombies.

PCs found the orcs camped in a locked and trapped room, there was a mexican standoff and the PCs made the first attack. They were UNBELIEVABLY surprised when the rogue orc sneak attacked them and were terrified of an orc ranger. orc cleric of gruumesh was pretty meh same stats as the eye of grummesh (spelling?). they wound up killing half of the orcs, leaving the cowardly rogue orc and the cleric to live to tell the tale.
>>
>>48693563
In 5e? Not really. I've given them class features like spellcasting or divine smite, but this was done willy-nilly, not by actually giving them class levels.

The leylines that criss-cross Nibiru work in mysterious ways- especially when they are disrupted. When a weapon that disrupted them was fired as part of a war, the other side of the planet, and its colonies, experienced catastrophic repercussions. They were hurled through space and time, to a different Nibiru- new and fresh, but much more savage and harsh. Thousands of years have passed, and the original colonies lie in ruins, technology and society devolved, with people living in more feudal (or tribal) lifestyles. Which of these new societies will rise to power, and which will crumble?

Nation Name: The Kingdom of Blatrek
Race(s): Vampires, Human, Misc.
Color: Red
Fluff: Founded by wizards who were said to hav fled from across the seas long ago. These wizards were shocked by the harshness of this new Niburu and were in more surprised at the mortality they now hand thrust from their school halls. With the ley-lines fractured their powers were useless with the magic they had so long relied on seemingly gone expect in fractured pockets on the now blasted ley-lines. One wizard however named Karl Halpenberg found a most interesting discovery, trace amounts of mana could be found within the blood of every creature born on Niburu. Slowly and over many years Karl would gain power twisting himself and followers into creatures adapted to tapping into the blood of others; Vampires!

The Kingdom of Blatrek is a feudalistic society with the breed of magical vampires commanded by King Karl Halpenberg acting as the noble class. Humans are used for labour and livestock as the Vampires bodies can no longer live without blood and the magic inside it. The only thing worth more than blood is pure mana harvest directly from the Ley-lines which is coveted by the whole kingdom.

Mushroom Clouds… that’s all there was on TV these days.

No matter which channel you switch to every one across the world is broadcasting the same thing: Monus Island has been nuked, the IF Security Council is dead and the Assembly of Nations has been destroyed. No one has claimed responsibility yet and most of the world is still too shocked to start pointing fingers. The magnitude of this disruption seems to have caused the ongoing war in the desert to pause. War zone contracts are few but the amount of covert jobs has sky rocketed.

Meanwhile the movie: Perils of the Ponderous Pumpkin Pillagers 2: Pumpkins vs Kaus has a direct to video release. The story is full of plot holes and the acting is mediocre but the movie gains a cult following who enjoy it for it’s cheesey tone and the incredibly realistic final battle scene in which the heroes completely annihilate the demonic Kau King.

Welcome to the Mecha Mercs Skirmish Campaign.

This is a tactical turn based collective game where each player takes on the role of a mech pilot. As the campaign progresses the players will accumulate a supply of resources which can be used to build up a persistent pool of mechs and equipment, but watch out! If your pilot dies you could lose it all and be forced to start again with an inferior mech.

Right now the game is full and we are not currently accepting any new players.
