So my party is about to track a nature demon through the woods, into a large area the demon has prepared. It's a rescue mission, else they'd do something more practical like burning the forest down or something.
I need ideas for mini encounters, traps, misdirects, hostile wildlife, predicaments for injured NPC survivors, and things of that sort. Help?

Bump
Trees with faces that scream or moan.
Roots that shoot up and impale things above them.
Exploding fruit.
A tree covered with hangman's nooses that wanders around trying to lynch people.
Spiderwebs blocking key routes through the forest.
Swarms of spiders that rain down from above.
>>48661985
A tree that has half-swallowed a child and keeps it alive to use the child's singing voice in order to lure people to rescue the poor kid and hunt for better, bigger prey
What should I do with these heretical 4e books tg?
>burn them
>sword practice
>tug of war with dog
>one for each
>>48660979
Donate the books to a local library if you don't want them.
Or burn them like a nazi then fucking hang yourself for being such a cunt.
>>48660979
either sell them to someone who'll use them or donate them to a thrift shop

I dont want to infect the youth with this garbage. Less nazi more like burning the necronomican

My 13th Age group amused Rob Heinsoo who came by to observe. That was hella fun.
Cosplayed for the first time in like 9 years today, so that was fun
Not really looking forward to tear down and trying to Tetris our shit back into the van tomorrow.
Picked up a bunch of out of print stuff to open and play. Got Clout, Tomb Raider CCG, Pirates, LoTR TCG, On the Edge, Ophidian CCG, Warlord, Transformers constructible, Horus Heresy, Hyborian Gates, L5R, Race Day, and Bionicle CCG. You guys got any experience with any of these games?
So I'm going to be portraying a red dragon in upcoming sessions of the 5e game I'm running. Having never run a dragon before, I'm looking for some advice. The party has entered the region he considers his territory, and while they have the attention of some of his servants they have never directly confronted him in a way that would draw his attention.
What are some cool ways to tease the party with a dragon. It's my BBEG so I don't want to just up and start a fight (they'd lose anyway). How can I build him up and create some tension/fear?
I'm thinking I should treat him like the monster in a movie like Jaws or Alien and start by showing indirect evidence of his presence. Any ideas how I can do stuff like that? Experience running dragons in general?
>>48629187
This might actually help you. It would be funny to see a dragon like this
>>48660474
I'll check it out, though I've been playing the tone fairly serious so far.
>>48660448
well, reds are evil, make him like a mob boss. have him torture and kill locals that have borrowed from him (Think an entrepeneur dragon worrying about the longterm value of his hoard) and fail to pay him back. have him collect protection money from local lords and businesses.
Quitting MTG and going to try force of will. One of the main draws to Force of Will is the fact you get your spell stone out every turn so its more fair and skill based.
So what can you guys tell me about the game? Playing a blue deck and might make a side green deck.
>>48659795
The official trial decks in Germany include a blue deck whose only ability and purpose is to commit suicide via deck out.
>>48659795
I'm a MTG player looking to switch as well. I just picked up the Machina starter deck to familiarize myself and seems like it'll be a simple switch from MTG
I've never heard of this. Can you post some art or something? Tell me more about it?
Is there an online version so that I can try-before-I-buy?
/tg related physics question here.
Say you have a magic hammer. You can change the mass of the hammer's head without changing its volume. The mass of the head can range anywhere from 1 pound to 10 pounds. Controlling the hammer's mass is mental and instant.
What is the most effective way to use this hammer?
Do you start swinging the hammer with 1 pound of mass, then increase it linearly until it connects at 10 pounds? Do you do the majority of the swing at 1 pound, then change to 10 pounds at the last possible instant before you connect? Or do you do something else that I haven't even thought of?
>>48659327
Do you not understand how force works? You swing with 1 pound to achieve maximum velocity then change the mass to 10 at the last possible moment. Assuming that resonance (i.e. autism) isn't an issue this will create the biggest impact.
>>48659327
You maximize momentum by maximizing both mass and velocity. Swinging faster at a low mass then instantly increasing the mass at the last possible second gets you that maximum momentum.

Should a man be able to refuse playing with someone with an infectious disease at a Magic the Gathering tournament without getting a game loss?
>>48658954
If you didn't want to get AIDS you should have stayed in your hermetically sealed home, you hypochondriac retard
>>48658954
relax, autism isn't infectious.
>>48658985
Lies. The number one cause of autism in America is getting bitten by an autistic person.
Welcome to the Total War: Warhammer General where players can discuss the game, Total War: Warhammer, what they hope will be seen in the future, and discuss strategies with each other and give advice.
If one of those large 20 stack armies from Total War: Warhammer is transferred onto the tabletop, what would its points limit be? What I'm talking about is a standard army with up to 10 units being from the special section, up to 5 units from the rare section, a minimum of 5 units from the core section and the army containing a single lord and two heroes.

One day I will have a computer that can run this, one day. By then it will either be a lot cheaper or way more expensive thanks to mounds of DLC.

Many of you are familiar with rolling 3d6. Have you tried 1d12+2d6?
The curvature of 1d12+2d6 is pretty sweet, smoother than 3d6. It´s a shame that it reduces the chances to get extremes to pretty much nothing (with 3d6 I like to count 4 and 17 as crits and 3 and 18 as particularly big things that affect more the whole scenario than the players/enemies themselves), though.
What are your favorite curvatures?
>>48657496
Damn, forgot the link.
http://anydice.com/program/9099
I don't pretend curvature is important in games that use binary pass/fail results, so I prefer flat probabilities because they are easier to use and calculate.
I'm kinda fond of 2d10. it's a pretty light bell curve, and it's nice how all the probability percentages are whole numbers.
When I begin a campaign I usually enjoy doing some moderate changes to the races, like having Wood Elves live in savannas like the Zulus, or be a mountain folk like the Temur clan in Magic the Gathering.
Some other alterations I like to make involve having dark elves live much more like an Orthodox Christian nation instead of being cooped up in the Underdark while they'll still be xenophobic against outsiders.
But I've had a few run ins with players who always roll their eyes at these changes, and they suggest (even as a DM of 8 years) that going against the books is extremely unprofessional, and that the way stuff is written in the book is how it needs to be done.
All I hear is "The books are allowed to be creative but you're not." What do you think /tg/?
These sorts of players are overlooking the bigger picture. The very first page of most DMG books for systems state on that the books are meant only to be guidelines and that nothing in them is set in stone. Anything is subject to change to fit the DMs feel for a story and establish a truly unique setting.
Your players can't get mad at you for "not following the books" when the very first page states the books encourage DMs to make their own changes to begin with. In a sense, a good DM is following the spirit of the book by expanding upon what is initially written into them. So your players are little more than hypocrites if they scold you for this.
>"hey guys, I'm gonna slap a bunch of fantasy races together with seemingly random RL cultures! wow such worldbuilding, very creative. wait til you hear this one: my wood elves...they...wait for it...they live in locales that have no woods! now let me consult the random numbers generator to see what the drow are like, hm it seems they're orthodox christians"
maybe they just think your ideas are retarded. I sure do
>>48657225
Yeah I can say for sure that it might be the personality of some of my players, they seem to see things as black and white and one in particular is very inflexible with what they think.
I remember one time they argued that rogues were strictly masters of their crafts and know all the mystical tricks in the world, while I was trying to argue that a rogue could ALSO be defined as someone who's a very dirty, dexterous fighter. Someone else stepped in and took my side but they still didn't agree. I might need better players.
Anybody else looking forward to this? Also general Weird War 2 thread.
Anybody at all?
Wasn't this using supposed to use an existing system as the base?
Most people on /tg/ do not play games, of those that do only some play wargames and of these even less have an interest in niche games.
When it comes to that stuff, other places are better for discussion. /tg/ is for dank 40k memes.
Me, I prefer that kind of scope at 15mm, so its not my cup of tea.
Hey /tg/ complaints department, I'm trying to not play DND but I don't have knowledge of simpler systems. Could you name a few?
GURPS?
>>48655849
First, you need to know what type of genre you want to play.
Hack and slashy?
Future cyberpunk?
Far future spacepunk?
Weird dark horror?
Comfy slice of life?
Dungeon crawling?
Or do you want a system that can do everything, kind of?
Then choose if you want a very crunchy game or something more narrative-y.
Choose that, then we can help you further.
