What's your favourite piece of munchkinry in Pathfinder?

Mine is probably Magical Lineage + Metamagic Master for Metamagiced spells with a negative level adjustment.

Get logs of famous/important games, put all the moves into a list format where you can cover up all the moves except for one. Say, a piece of paper with a single column listing all the moves and a second piece of paper covering it that you can slide down, revealing the moves one at a time.

Start recreating the game mve by move on a physical board. Before you look at what the next move in the is, look at the board state and think about what you would actually do in that situation. Then look at the next move, place the piece and think about why the actual player went with that move instead of what you had thought of. Try to think about which of the two moves was superior and why.

What about solving more tactics?
www.goproblems.com

Also, you can easily download collections of books to learn progressively about nice structures, relationship between groups, common tactics, etc.
Studying theory is more useful here than in chess, because the interactions between two any stones will be always the same (only changing through the position).

I´ll dump two gifs comparing the ramifications of chess and go.

Gunslingers and Gamblers. It's shit for prolonged campaigns, as there is barely any character progression, but for one-offs and shorts it's perfect, simple system over 10 pages and based on d6

>Monster takes on the traits of things it eats
>Starts off devouring animals and getting bigger and stronger
>Eventually moves on to other monsters, gaining supernatural abilities
>Finally it begins to hunt Humans, Elves, and other sapient species
>Gains greater intelligence, but as it consumes others it begins to grow a conscience
>One day the balance tips
>Suddenly, the creature is more human than monster
>Whether from the heroes it's eaten or the innocent bystanders, it decides to stop
>It wants to make amends

When would be the best time for the PCs to encounter this monster? I'm thinking there are two main points that they could intervene; before it gains sapience, or long after.

The former presents it as a near unstoppable beast, constantly gaining new abilities and strength while the PCs try to halt its rampage, right up until it stops and tries to talk with them. They're probably going to be mighty pissed at this thing, assuming it's eaten someone they like, and will likely try to kill it anyway.

The latter scenario would have the rampage in the past, in a way that doesn't provoke the PCs. Their first impression of the creature would be a civil one that would prefer to talk. However, the fact remains that it had to kill a lot of people to get that way.

How would you run this monster past your party?

>>
>>48716714
It depends on how long after and how far away it was until it gained sapience.

Big difference in perception if it became sapient yesterday and a hundred years ago.
>>
>>48716714
definetely before.

imagine your party having to decide whether or not to fight this thing after it says some shit basically about being aware of itself. do you let it live its own life or do you kill it as a safety precaution? i, robot level shit
>>
>>48716714

At this point, it might understand that it's either hated or unwanted in this plane, and would either decide to exile itself to another dimension or a secret, secluded location for penance so that it can meditate on how it can possibly make amends. Actually, this can be a possibility suggested by the PCs. If your setting is conducive to planar travel (or other means of just moving it someplace else where the natives won't mind it) then it's a good solution.

It would probably take on pacifism first thing, surviving only on what is necessary, so that it can have an "I think, therefore I am" kind of philosophical rebuild in its seclusion in order to build a better system of philosophical guidance to guide its actions further. It would also probably take on some rigid and more secular guiding laws (of men, elves, dwarves...) in order to help guide its actions in the interim, so that it doesn't run into conflict with other beings.

After decades or even centuries, but after a long time, it may have found a function or purpose to guide its actions and possibly take on the role of shepherd, gardener, advisor, or protector of this plane, and move against planar threats when it can to ensure a better future.

After running a successful kickstarter campaign backed by some very generous benefactors, you finally manage to raise enough to publish your homebrew game in an attractive boxed set.

What are the contents of your game's boxed set?
Rulebooks?
Dice?
Miniatures?
Coasters?

They have an advantage for that in GURPS called "common sense" whenever the player is about to do something dumb the GM has to tell them.
>>
>>48715080
This is a big reason I don't like intellect as a stat in tabletop RPGs. GMs and game-rules typically do not help deal with such discrepancies, especially for for tasks that would be intellect-governed in the abstract, but are actually determined by player choices rather than character stats. And it doesn't help that the usefulness of information-related skills and powers is uniquely vulnerable to the vagaries of an unprepared or insecure GM.

>>48719237
>ability called common sense
>whenever the player is about to do something dumb the GM has to tell them
That's also a thing in WoD.
>>
>>48719237
Nah its more like a "Are you sure you want to do that?" You dont blatantly tell the player.

Depends on the setting. You don't want to hear this, but it really does.
If you're the author of a setting, you can decide an elf is nine feet tall with four arms and it will be true.
There is no single correct answer for the bodily measurements of elves because they're fictional creatures that have deviated quite a lot from the original concept.
>>
>>48714455

Precisely. Are elves supposed to be tall, short, or the same height as humans? Or halfling sized, which is true in some settings.

If you're talking D&D, then there's considerable overlap in size and builds. And ears aren't so tall that it's a problem.

So basically other than normal resizing, no, no changes.
>>
Gotcha, thanks.

>Con RPG
>Rules light
>Pick an archetype
>Skills are given specific die ranging from d4-d12
>Wizard might have strength of d4. If a ceiling drop trap occurs, a result of 8 is required to hold it up. Wizard obviously will never be able to hold it, but a fighter could.
>Pre game, your party is given a box of cardboard, leather, and various other scrap to make gear out of
>Not making anything gives you a -1 penalty
>Making something that simply works no more no less gives you a +0
>Making something good gives you a +1 to +2 bonus
>Can spend in game currency pre game to buy schematics for legendary gear. Which is simply just a scroll with a picture. Make the item in the picture as close as you can to get +3 or bonuses in multiple stats.
>Spellcasting is a gamble. 1-5 is a fizzle, 6-10 is a weak effect, 11-18 is normal, 19-20 has amazing effects. Can choose to keep rolling a d20 for cumulative amount. Going past 20 results in getting burned from over channeling. 35+ means you simply blow up or some sort of extremely bad effect happens.

Thoughts? This is something I'm planning for next year, and I've been getting good reception. Also while not playing, could teach chirrin who wander by crafty skills like saddle stitching and such. Show them how to make a bracer with a piece or two out of a cheap bag of scraps.

Not sure if there was a better place to post this or not.

I like that this RPG combines roleplaying with arts and crafts.
>>
>>48714070

Could be a fun arts and crafts style thing.

I think it'd be funner if you went the whole 9 yards though and just brought out a shitton of arts n' crafts materials and just went "in this game you start with no equipment other than what you can make! Build your equipment and lets see how well you fare!"

Then make a whole bunch of like weapon/equipment tags that offer different effects depending on what's made.

Deadlands, Noir. It's 1953. It's New Orleans, it's just 1 page of alternate history. The Civil War didn't go as we know, an earthquake broke CA, and there's monsters and magic. With tons of wiggle room for rules and fluff. Worth looking into at least.
>>
>>48713754
Damn it, I can't look at a mouth on a black background without seeing Rocky Horror.
Suggestion: don't be so lazy, tell your players what they need to know, maybe do it as you go along so you don't overwhelm them.

Or do Dresden Files, but that's more Pulp than Noir
>>
It is more I want to give them a setting they can read over before we start the game. I love dresden but I'm looking for more of a 1940s feel. Pulp is fine but I want vampires and supernaturals to be something the players can be.

The morning sun is beautiful.

You haven't spent much time out here, at the shrine. It's no wonder the place keeps filling up with people.
It's absolutely majestic.

The trees act as a perfect shield from the harsh rays of the sun. Wisps of fog hide at the lower limbs of the forest's trees. The dense, cool air from last night pours from the underpinning of the wilderness. Gently, it soaks into your skin.

There is zero reason for Keiko to fear this place. You would move here if you didn't have obligations elsewhere.

You are Wikikayda.
It's a hard name to remember, so people just call you 'Kayda'.

Your legs stretch out, and you rub the sleep from your eyes.
If the sun's position is to be believed; you've been awake for maybe a quarter of the morning.

That's not good. You need to sleep, even though it's been getting increasingly harder as of late.

Why is it so hard to sleep?

..is what you would be asking if there wasn't a really good reason for it, last night.

You remember falling sleep in a shelter, then being carried, and then waking up on the floor of the Demon Hunter Shrine outside of Biscotti. Beside you lay your best friends; who seemingly lost their nerve and camping spirit before trudging back to the safety of the shrine in the dead of night with you in tow.

Something must have happened, or then again maybe not. You remember the first time you ever went camping without anyone you knew. It was scary at first, but it really proved to you that the woods are probably among the safest places imaginable.

Speaking of which, here comes a familiar figure.

"Jack!" The blonde fox-girl shouts. "Jaaack?! Are you in there?"

You stand up, and greet the familiar face.
"Good morning, Atsuko!"

"Good morning, Uh, Kayda. Did you spend the night here?"
"I did, with Keiko."
"That's nice of you, is that why you're wearing her clothes?"

"Uh, mine fell in the mud."

"Where's Keiko right now?"

"Still sleeping."
"Lazybones, she's supposed to do the morning rituals-"
"Wait!"

You try to stop Atsuko before she opens the shrine's door, but it's too late.

The door slides open, and a mountain of mud, dirt, twigs, water, and footprints is exposed to the morning light. In the center of the chaos; two girls are fast asleep in their muddied and wrinkled clothing.
