How have you addressed them in your campaigns? Where do they come from, and how do they live? Have you done anything unique with them? What strange breeds of yrthak exist in your worlds?

For fags who think their campaigns are too 4dgy and cool for yrthaks, here's why you're a fucking idiot for not including them:
-That horn on top of their heads? That thing shoots sonic energy. You know, the one thing that nobody ever thinks to protect themselves against? You know, the thing that's behind sonic fucking booms? Yeah, this thing shoots what's basically a beam of that shit.
-They can also use this Fuck You, I'm a Yrthak beam to blow shit up. Well, what kind of shit, you may ask. Probably stupid shit like thatch-roofed cottages or mud huts. Haha, NOPE. This thing blasts through ships, solid stone, metal walls, ANYTHING nonmagical. A castle wall? Obliterated. A bank vault door? Kaboomed. A top-of-the-line battleship? Sank.
-They look like dragons, but they aren't dragons at all: excellent example of the weird shit magic-based evolution can come up with
-They use blindsight with an organ on their tongue, meaning that illusions ain't gonna do diddly shit to fool them
-They're smart; they're not intelligent enough to speak, but they're roughly on par with Jurassic Park raptors, i.e. they're smart enough to hunt in packs and set fucking traps. From above. Shit your pants yet?
-They can live pretty much anywhere; they like mountainous regions the best, but they'll do awesome in whatever underground areas you have, and they don't seem to mind heat and cold too much, either
-PCs love them, too: Can be trained to make kickass mounts, will provide an interesting fight that they'll be sure to remember, and provide the thrill of fighting dragons even if they're too low-level for great wyrms and shit.

TL;DR Yrthaks kick ass; what have you done with them in your campaign?

How do you think an aquatic civilization is likely to develop, culture and techwise? Assuming fully aquatic and around human intelligence.

Without access to stuff like fire or paper I have a hard time seeing them getting very far beyond more primitive tribal culture.

>paper
A lot of cultures were doing just fine without paper. There are a lot of alternatives.

>fire
For what? Cooked meat? I don't know much about this topic, but is cooking fish as important as cooking meat? You could say that they developed their dwelling around boiling springs.
>>
>>48713289
Melting bronze and iron, probably.
>>
>>48713084
Not very far.
Paper is useful but not essential.
Fire is needed to make pretty much every tool that is not a rock tied to some kind of pole, no pottery or metal tools for instance.
Since bringing something up to the temperature to melt metals would kill any aquaman due to the high thermal conductivity of water.
Chemistry would be extremely hard due to water diluting everything, and if you are dealing with things that are poisonous the aquamen would likely poison themselves.

Obviously all this could probably be solved in a fantasy setting with the copious use of MAGIC.
Also Amphibious civilizations could be possible if they do all the necessary stuff on land.

Why are religions so often clearly good or bad in RPGs, /tg/? Real world churches are a riotous mess with a thousand arguments had over them.

Usually in games I just see a kind of shit version of Catholicism, some badwrong church that it's hard to believe anyone worships at, and some players rolling actual atheist characters.

>>
>>48712146
Religions are usually done in a very simple way so that GM's have a lot more leeway in personalizing them and giving them flavor.

If you take the given information and exclusively use on that, without adding your own personal touches, you are a bad GM.
>>
>>48712146
Coming up with original religions is pretty hard. It's a complex topic that combines philosophy, mythology, theology, culture and history if you really want to do it justice.
>>
>>48712146
I just do several churches that worship several gods
there are no church of evil, since who would worship a god who is bad?
seems counterproductive

So I got my copy of this last week, but haven't seen any discussion on it here.
Anyone else get it yet? What are your opinions? Have you run any adventures yet? What do you like that's new, and what don't you like?
Personally, I'm kinda annoyed they provided this huge section on various federal departments, but don't have any monsters or basic cultists statted. I mean, I get not statting big things like the various deities, but why not give us something for Deep Ones, Yithians, Mi-go and the such?

>Case Officer's Handbook still doesn't have a release date
>>
>>48711681
Because this book is strictly the base rules that will always be used. Magic won't always be used, and I have yet to run an actual game that uses a preexisting mythos creature.

The Case Officer's Handbook, now re-titled "Delta Green the RPG" will contain all of the GM stuff, magic, faction info etc. I for one really like that the big federal government section is included, helps with immersion and for players to know just what their "FBI" agent can actually do.

I ran a game of it at Gencon last week, players loved it none of them had tried the new system yet. A few of them knew old DG.

As far as creature stats go, I don't expect Owl Bear stats in the PHB. I assume a lot of the people playing this right now are either already invested in old DG/Call of Cthulhu and have stats or are the kind that will make their own monsters.

This is now a /ysg/ thread

Greenskins.

They were always designed to be the main atagonist to everyone and would fill that role perfectly.
>>
Chaos, because of one word: versatility.

A proper action RPG presents you with a variety of situations that you can resolve in a variety of ways. For example, maybe you'll meet that ravening enemy horde at the gates with axe in hand. Or maybe you'll blow them to bits from the battlements with cannon fire. Or maybe they never show up, because you strangled their leader in his tent last night.

Chaos supports this style of gameplay by having almost unlimited angles from which it can come at you. It can be sneaky and insidious, with cultists hiding among the regular population. It can be in your face, with Norse warriors bearing down screaming for blood. It can be creepy and suspenseful, with demons skulking through mutated terrain sniffing for your blood. This versatility allows the developers pretty much free reign to design challenges for the player to face, which in turn gives the player a lot of freedom in dealing with them. Plus with Chaos it's clear from word one what the stakes are. Their gods are dicks who want to eat the world in which you live, and if you fuck up that's just what they'll do. A nice solid engine to drive the conflict.

This isn't to say that other factions can't work in this role, but they each have a narrower flavor that requires a certain type of game. For example, Skaven or Vampire Counts would be good antagonists in a game with more horror themes, where it's just you and your wits versus the skittering darkness. Lizardmen or Tomb Kings would suit a game with a mystery focus, ducking a hostile race amid ancient ruins while you unravel their inscrutable plans. And of course Greenskins are your BioWare villains, an unnumbered horde of one-dimensional dicks whose role is mainly to be a big sword hanging over your head while you piss around looking for sidequests. And while each is good in its role, Chaos can fill any of them with minimal effort.

Chaos or Undead, Orks are a fun mini baddy but they are more a thorn in the empires side than a pressing immediate threat like the undead or chaos

You subsapient baboon.
You literal human.

How dare you speak, you swarthy city monkey. How dare you open your big lipped, grain encrusted, pipe-weed smelling mouth?

You are mortal trash, John St. Geological Feature Town McOccupation. Universally despised, derided and mocked. Your nationality and ear shape offers no hope to the world that human lands can ever prosper. Crawl back in to the Southern jungle you came out of, you literal troglodyte.

I hope you decide to sail your grandfathers skip to the Elflands and rape some sheep, as is in the human's nature. It would still be the whitest pussy you ever had. Give Illandil and Sylvanthas a chance for some target practice, your sole use to the world. Humans' obsession with a few windswept islands in the ocean is hilarious but sad. Coincidentally its the only worthwhile contribution a human has made to the medical field. The MUH MANIFEST DESTINY sentiment in the average human is both an early warning sign of autism in children, and early on set Alzheimer's in adults.

Take your mortal hairy fingers off your keyboard, and never talk about elvish affairs again you antiquated construction equipment. No amount of cheekbone surgery or ear trimming will make you an elf. It's about as delusional of an idea as your daydreams of Numenorian heritage. Your crude makeup isn't fooling anyone.

You human.

You make Mordor look like a beacon of civilization.

You are the Baltimore of Middle Earth

Go fertilize Pelinor Fields with you and your family's corpses, its the best you can hope for in life. For the first time in your life human, you will have a job. Making food for a race of beings of infinitely higher worth than you. Gondorian cattle. Coincidentally, it would be the first time a human "man" provided for a family.

Die, mortal. No one would miss you. Except for the Dwarves, who now would have no one to make them look good.
