Its pretty fun, but it would really depend on your campaign setting. had to kick a player because he didnt mesh well with what everybody else was making so that kind of sucke,d but beyond that things are going great.
the campaign before this was based in feudal japan, no pokeballs. Had to fight wild pokemon for survival and a few NPCs had trained pokemon. THAT camp was amazing.

yeaaah. thats one of the things where it depends on your campaign. having standard trainer style campaign sucks dick.
Its a lot funner to change things up a bit and try to make it different from the game. make it more RP than combat, add in multiple types of battles, the trainers can take battle classes and learn their own moves as well. keep that in mind.

You are a level 1 commoner. Living in a small village situated between a forest and a mountain pass.
One night an orc batallion comes rushing from the forest, slays everyone in the village and proceeds to mercilessly kill you in your bed. You watch in horror as you and everyone you ever knew die brutally. As you feel death take you, you suddenly find yourself jostled awake.
It's the previous day. You're alive. Everyone is alive. The village is safe. It's as if the events hadn't happened. Then, the following night the same events occur. The same orcs attack in the same manner and do the same thing, killing you once again only for you to once more re-awaken alive and well from the previous day.
It's then you realize that: this will keep happening. You are stuck in a time-loop of experiencing the same horrific brutal assault. Trying to warn people about the orcs just has people look at you funny and nobody believes you have psychic premonitions.
Trying to flee into the forest just has you happen upon the orcs who will finish you off quickly before hurring along to the village. Fleeing into the mountain exposes you to monsters far worse than them. Every time you die you wake up on that exact day even if you somehow manage to live beyond it.
There are no actual PC class characters in the village either and nobody is an adept or warrior. There's one expert (the blacksmith) but other than that you're the only person of note.
What do you do?

Politics have played out in the camp as news reaches the Queen of an attack on Edessa by the infamous Turk, Zengi. Worse, an Egyptian relief forces marches east, pounding on the walls of Gaza, the fearsome Nubian Guard. The Queen's men occupying that fortress, a mixed force of Templars and secular knights, lead in joint command by Sir Blaise and Sir Barisan, are under siege but holding out. William Bures, constable of Jerusalem and Prince of Galilee, has organized a relief force, sapping the besiegers of Ascalon of much needed warriors but needed to prevent the Nubian Guard breaking through the Gaza defenses.
Fortune enters the fray with the arrival of Prince Manuel and his force, the Roman prince at the head of a thousand man bodyguard. Scion of the Emperor, his arrival brings hope to the forces of Latin Christendom and fresh troops to add to the press of combat.

In my own setting, it is cultural. There's nothing in particular stopping a wizard from learning to use armour and casting while wearing it, but most wizards are academics, not warriors, and the few that go on adventures are the outcasts and pariahs of their orders. Mechanically speaking, all it would take for them to cast in armour is a feat.
My game's wizards are based on the Archivist class from Heroes of Horror. All magic is divine, there's no arcane spell failure.
Why would anyone use an axe over any other weapon?

Please feel free to post some classics, too. Especially of interest are stories about people claiming to be good/neutral while doing horrifically evil stuff, and players who are shitty people IRL.
I'll start with my own tale of woe, as I don't want to beg without contributing.

So I got into DnD because 5th grader school me had just got into Dragon Age and Mass Effect. I thought it was mind blowing that choices affected shit in the game. So I thought that there has to be more stuff like that with shit I actually enjoy. So I started googling Avatar RPF,Halo RPG and lastly Dragonball RPG. This lead me to fanfiction.net, and to a Dragonball z forum rp. It took about a year and a half for me to build up the courage to make a app a character which I find hilarious in his sigh since the forum consisted of

My forum's been running the latest version of Adeptus Evangelion for about a year now. We've got a Japanese idol, a Rei who acts like Asuka, an Asuka who acts like Rei, a useless cry baby, a guy who punches everything, and a guy who speaks in a horrible fake Japanese accent. So, a character of mine was born into his family "curse" or "gift" depending on what angle they're looking at it from.
Namely, he was born pretty much overflowing with chaos magic, pretty much warp energy. It made him exceptionally good with that magic. However, it also meant that sometime in the near future, he was going to basically implode/melt into warpstuff. Oh, and he tends to leave people he sleeps with braindead and is in near constant pain.
He is not the smartest man in the world, so he's gone and made a deal with some sort of devil to trade his old curse and life for a new set of those things, but I'm bad at making up curses, so I figured it could befunto get some input.
If it helps, his new life will have him as a necromancer (think D&D magic school rather than just raising dead all the time; though that is an option.)

These tasks range from the gruesome (kill these people in this ritualistic fashion) to the strangely benign (buy an apple from a certain stall and drop it in the third alley you pass).Obviously, the benign tasks have the most horrific effects, setting in to motion incredible catastrophes.
The extended lifespan won't stop though you can't shake the feeling that the seemingly harmless actions are somehow worse.an assassin's blade or executioner's axe, but it does hold back the effects of time. And on the bright side, getting close to someone just leaves them with nightmares for about a week rather than catatonic forever!
