Yeah sure. Why not?

A paladin isn't just the big guy in plate. He's the fury of mortals against an unjust world given divine blessings.
They can go about that any way they like, so long they still inspire the weak, defeat those who would do innocents harm and smite the evil.

That said, you might want to shop around for a more fitting class and just refluff it as paladin.
No idea what though, but there's bound to be a sneaky divine magic caster somewhere..
>>

>inb4 LE KEK BUT PALADINS DONT STEAL!!!! XDDDDD

Usually a Paladin is a warrior devoted to pursuing the cause of a good deity. There's nothing that says they can't do this using stealth or even subterfuge. If a Paladin is the kind who roots out evil cultists in their city hideouts then being able to pick locks and disarm traps is an advantage. A Paladin might well use stealth and guile to gather information before deciding on a course of action.

If you're in DnD and using alignment, then Lawful Good DOES allow a character to break the law and do shady things, provided they are following a higher authority and are principled about what they do. A Paladin-rogue would probably be following the orders of his church or of a good monarch/lord to whom the Paladin had sworn service, and acting in their interest for a good cause.
>>
>>48655371
Yeah of course, if anything a pally/rogue would have an even greater willpower than a regular pally.
He would infiltrate evil and kill it from the inside, persuade and charm his way through challenges, defend his people through political machinations or assassinations.

Think of Vernon Rouche from the Witcher.

Read 'The Golden Bough' by Sir James George Frazer. It's an anthrological book from the 1920s that has hundreds of examples of real world magical traditions. As a bonus, it's written in an extremely condescending British Empire style.

>How many roleplayers do you know?
A shitton. There's my regular group (5), my other group (10)(no we don't play everyone at once), and a bunch of people I don't play with but I know have other groups (about 10 or so). A total of about 25 then, I guess.
>How many of them live near enough to have sessions IRL?
Half of my regular group lives in a neighboring town, but with solid public transport it actually work out for IRL meets anyway. The rest of them live in the same town as me.
>How many of them do you play with on a weekly/bi-weekly basis?
Everyone is way to busy to play this often. My second group tend to play in short burst, where we play every week for about four weeks and then go a couple of months until the next adventure. So, none, I guess.
>How many of them DID you play with on a weekly/bi-weekly basis at some point in time?
Old group, excluding me there were 4 of us back then.
>How many of them are DMs?
Pretty-much always GM? One or two. Occasional GM's? 5-6.
>>
>>48654242
>How many roleplayers do you know?
Several in my area, more from the nearby college town. I'd say around twenty or so altogether I've personally interacted with.
>How many of them live near enough to have sessions IRL?
All of the aforementioned.
>How many of them do you play with on a weekly/bi-weekly basis?
There are two groups I play with consistently, but right now only one has active games I'm a part of so five other players.
>How many of them DID you play with on a weekly/bi-weekly basis at some point in time?
As many as ten between three groups.
>How many of them are DMs?
Three, four including myself.
>>
>How many roleplayers do you know?
Atop of my head, I'd say sixty.
>How many of them live near enough to have sessions IRL?
Forty.
>How many of them do you play with on a weekly/bi-weekly basis?
I had to do some calculations, but I'd say twenty? Maybe a little more.
>How many of them DID you play with on a weekly/bi-weekly basis at some point in time?
All sixty of 'em.
>How many of them are DMs?
About twenty of them. But only seven are regulars.

Brainstorming a zombie deck after noticing I could make one entirely of zombies with built in coat of arms
+4 cemetary reaper
+4 death baron
+4 diregraf captain
+4 risen executioner
+4 soulless one
+4 undead warchief

Are the creatures for the deck. They all give +1+1. Warchief gives +2+1 and deathtouch. What else needs to go in there to make this work?

a few suggestions from a fellow meatshield enthusiast:

> Endless Ranks of The Dead
> Lich Lord Of Unx
> Gravecrawler
> From Under The Floorboards
> Wight of Precinct 13
> Army of The Damned
> Undead Alchemist
> Altar of The Brood

The last two can combo to provide you with a sizeable horde of 2/2 zombie tokens and mill opponents at the same time

Which of these campaigns would you rather play /tg/?

Option A:
>set in a fantasy world's equivalent of pre WW2 Europe
>technologically the it's the early 20th century except there's no guns
>party is selected for being good at magic and shit to join the army
>fast tracked to secret service/espionage positions because magic is rare and very powerful
>go around collecting intel on other nations in preparation of war
>have to assassinate VIPs from time to time
>have to protect their own country's leaders at other points
>mostly they are manipulating opposing country's governments to prevent war or join their alliance
>secretly I'm keeping track of all the players successes and fuck ups
>any huge fuck up could start the war almost instantaneously
>each success pushes war further away, failures pull it closer
>due to new advanced knowledge of magic, when the war hits it's potentially world ending
>only way to entirely prevent it is to convert every government to communism or topple all communist and fascist regimes without triggering a war
>it's almost definitely going to end in war but I'm curious to see how far my players can get

Option B in next post, full comment was too long.
16 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Option B:
>set during not!colonisation era
>magic is practically unknown to not!Europeans
>all records of dragons, wizards etc. are believed to be fairy tales
>party is in not!Americas
>natives of not!Americas are all fey, dragons, and all other kinds of magical beasts
>party gets payed to gather resources that could help not!Europeans learn magic
>quests are stuff like 'kill the dragon so I can study it's corpse and learn fire magic'
>they'd be given spells learned by the quest giver and magic items appropriate to what they just did
>like the dragon example would give them a bunch of fire spells and armour made from dragon skin on top of money
>all the while not!European powers are colonising the whole place and causing native beasts to lash out
>party gradually uncovers more and more hidden artefacts and ruins of ancient cities
>they eventually find out that beings from another plane almost destroy humanity when it approaches the point of being able to traverse planes
>they don't bother completely wiping us out, just enough to send us back to the stone age
>just so that they don't have to share their plane with humans or bother fighting an adversary that could end up being equally powerful
>the party now needs to destroy magical shit or somehow otherwise stop humanity's knowledge of magic growing
>killing the unknown beings is near impossible
>party has to strike a balance between gaining new shit to help them on their quest but not aiding the growth of magical knowledge far enough to doom humanity
>chances are they're going to fuck it up and get destroyed because they're loot whores

Both sound unappealing honestly, so it's hard to decide. I grudgingly choose A.

I love you sif

So, I had this idea for a setting where, yes, Good, Evil, Law, and Chaos are real forces in the universe, but their correspondence to good, evil, order, and chaos in the moral sense is a rough one.

Such that maybe this guy is really reckless and impulsive, kind of a dick, but he's not THAT bad, and so when he dies his soul kind of lazily floats along in the general direction of the abyss, and maybe he gets taken to the abyss or Carceri, but maybe he gets taken to Pandemoneum or Archeron.

Maybe devils debate what constitutes evil in the halls of infernal universities.

Maybe Detect Good/Detect Evil only work on spirits from those planes because they measure Good and Evil, which are detectable, rather than good and evil, which are much more difficult to pin down. Meanwhile the gods and other extraplanar entities are called Good and Evil out of a general tendency among sentient beings (including those gods and entities themselves) to categorize things.

Basically, I'm envisioning a world where the philosophical reasons to believe in or dispute the existence of absolute good and evil (and the fiddly details about whether a specific action is good or evil) as there are in our world, but where these larger forces still exist.

What this does is make alignment a matter of alliance/connection to a specific "side" in the eternal cosmic battle, like it was way back in the earliest D&D editions. It may tend to correlate with actual moral outlook and personality, but it doesn't refer TO it.

This should allow D&D magic centered around alignment to function as intended, allow players to have alignments (or be true neutral like most humans), and maybe create some interesting roleplay opportunities.

So, you just invented the 1st editions of DnD?
>>
>>48653149
Close-ish. I think there are some differences in implementation, in that the earliest versions to use 3x3 alignment indicated, for example, that being Good and being good were exactly coextensive, and I don't think that's necessarily the case.

I would say that most Good people are probably good people, and most Evil people are probably evil, but what if, say, you had a Lawful Evil god who cares only about his own people, and they know he's Evil, but don't actually think he's evil in the moral sense because he's always protected them in exchange for their service? Is everyone who follows him automatically evil, or just Evil in the alignment/allegiance sense?

Hey /tg/ i come to you once again in need of some other brains.

Im going to be running a game with, you guessed it, a Vampire Big Bad, he's going to be a bit like Strahd in the sense that he will mock and greet the players throughout the game.

However when it comes to his powers (and maybe his personality) he's just your regular old Dracula/Strahd/Sorin vampire lord.

So i ask you /tg/ what would you think would be a nice change of pace on the evil vampire, does he actually use light magic? does he light himself on fire to transform into a demon? go wild!

He is actually grooming the party to become part of his family.
Maybe he disguises as various people giving quests to a party or he actually was a person that send them on a quest to begin with.
Maybe have him trick them near the end into becoming vampires?
