Suppose, for a moment, that I want to run a setting wherein nearly everyone can fly, and can fly over and under each other in combat.

Also suppose that I have a deep and abiding love for two-dimensional-grid-based combat ala D&D 4e, complete with flanking and with occupied squares blocking enemies' movement.

Further suppose that I intend on using a virtual tabletop such as MapTool or Roll20, and that I would rather not hassle myself with stacking tokens on a single grid space.

Is there any RPG combat system that can reconcile these preferences and intentions? It seems that two-dimensional grids are an awful fit for flight-heavy combat, but are there any RPG combat gems that can manage it?

nope.

Sorry mate, you'll have to break away from your habit of autistically modelling everything that doesn't really needs autistic modelling and just run your touhou game like papa ZUN intended - on a 2d plane.

This is not actually a Touhou game or setting, and "spell card combat" would be a contrived fit.
>>
Grab your favorite grid based game, then put a "height dice" on the tokens.

Characters on different heights can't melee each-other. You can switch your height by 1 as part of a move action.

Is there a player base for this before I go all in?

I can use tokens, but minis with *articulation* is super appealing... first off is that true? can you articulate the minis? if so is it worth the $400+?

>>
My experience was my FLGS talking about getting a community for the game rolling, me getting excited and buying a 300pt list and the rulebook for $100, and then the models just taking up space. Maybe somewhere out there the game is thriving, but it isn't New Jersey from what I can tell.
>>
>>50346539
Straight up brotha - I'm in seattle....

I'm on the edge that minis aren't worth even a 1$ for one, but its a huge discount....

I'm guessing if I buy I'll just be masturbating....

I think most /tg/ers are more story fixated rather than wanting to fight each other with dice.....
>>
Hey but do the minis actually have articulation?

Not to complain, but almost every second discussion of 40k here seem to be about space marines: who is a better primarch, what chapter is best, etc. Let's shake it up a little, what is the best ork clan?

I'll start myself.

I'm personally torn between Deathskulls and Blood Axes. I think Death Skulls are cool for the sheer middle finger they give to other races whenever they are killing them using their own looted tech. Blood axes seem to be the most cunning orks around. I remember reading a story about BA kommados who attacked refueling station to cripple giant Tau vessel protecting the area, allowing WAAGH to overpower resistance.

If it comes to a colorscheme, I vote for Deathskulls though.

Anyone who says otherwise is a poorfag

I need some mount ideas for a friend's character. Short backstory:

He is a former paladin. committed suicide after a series of unfortunate events, brought back by the gods, and is now a greyguard (3.5 PRC converted to pathfinder archetype for paladin). He doesn't want a plain horse or whatever. He is essentially LN, dark and dreary character. He wars pathfinder's Hellknight plate. Nothing cold-blooded due to the current arc taking place in the frozen north. I've thought about wolves/worgs, griffons, etc... maybe something more exotic? Dumping pics for a few.

Rak'gol. There's something about the crude biological/mechanical fusion that I really like. I also think they could do with expanding on. What kind of heavy armor do they have? Will their relation to the Yu'vath ever be explained? How do they build their stuff or even procreate?

Elegan/t g/entleman,
help me expand my humble setting.
I wrote a financial education system compatible with most ttrpg's and am
going to test run it with a group of normie friends that have never before played anything ttrpg related.
The setting so far is basically the Caribbean under Spanish rule during the 17th century.
A new ore has been discovered there
and the kings and dukes of the old world pay extraordinary prices for it, which led to a gold rush.
There is also a big landmass just a few days of travel by ship to the west of "Las Antillas" as I called my archipelago.
Most people think, that this landmass is probably really rich in the new iron ore but no expedition that set foot on it
was ever heard of again.
There are three bigger settlements on "Las Antillas", Port Azur, Fort Royal and Puerto Santa Azara, the first is controlled by a
conglomerate of corporations and rather pluralistic, while the Santa Azara and Fort Royal are controlled by the crown of Spain.
The players will be able to purchase assets ranging from ships, commodities, real estate and factories, to slaves, mining operations
and many more. 1/3

Storywise what I have so far is that the party grew up in Port Azur and starts working for one of the big trade companies
and get to know Las Antillas by travelling by ship from one plac to the other and have the opportunity to learn the fundamentals
of markets and trade.
After a few months they get a special job, which is safely getting the Governor of Puerto Santa Azara to Port Azul for a trade conference.
At night, while the sea is calm their ship gets boarded and attacked by tribal warriors from the new world, who kidnap the governor and kill everyone else.
They as the only survivors are stranded on a small island. There they have to play a bit survival and stumble upon a grotto, in which they find a ship and some treasure,
with a skelleton holding a map, the map to one of the riches and secret locations of the legendary pirate, who has terrorized the colonies of
the crown for decades. The skelleton also wears an amulett made of a big chunk of the new ore and is not as "dead" as they might have thought.
Coming back into civilization they will find Port Azur and Puerto Santa Azara at the brink of war as the gouvernors widow wants retribution
for the death of her husband and thinks the entire thing was no accident.
The players will have to come up with a plan to find the governor to avoid an all out war between the factions.
Luckily the map they just found seems to show a path up, against the seeming current of a big river into the heart of he new landmass.
As soon as they get there they will find a huge inland sea, with two civilizations at war, one being human and the other being
Yuan-Ti (who kidnapped the governor and actually replaced his wife with a pureblood).
They will also find out, why the old world pays such high prices for the mineral ore, because being in contact with it
makes you a lot more powerful (leading to the difficult decision making of using it to level up or sell it to buy more assets
and/or hire mercenaries). 2/3

Sup /tg/. I'm gonna DM a D&D game and i have books for 5e but my players insist on playing 3.5. I've seen a link to rule books for 5e in 5e general but i haven't seen anything like it for 3.5. Could anyone lend a hand?

Bitch slap them and DM 5e.
>>
Tell them you want to play 5e, and if they don't want to tell them you would LOVE to play some 3.5e but they have to do all the work converting your entire campaign into 3.5.

They'll play 5e.
>>
Also, why does nobody Google things anymore? You can find most rulebooks by simply Googling. It took me 5 seconds to get the Player's Handbook in PDF, the Dungeon Master's Guide in PDF, and most extra books too.

Stop being lazy OP, also, don't play 3.5.

I lack images to set the mood and the envrionment for my games !

I'll dump what I've got and I request paradise places (beautiful islands, magical cities...), places you would kill to live in.

So I'm worldbuilding and I really want to create a mountain-dwelling race that is a nice combination of various other fantasy races.

Something like a combo of kobolds, dwarves, goblins, troglodytes and others.
>Smaller then humans, possibly fat or pot-bellied
>Great inventors and crafters, but possibly loners and ornery
>The ones who leave their homeland are often young, rebellious, or exiled for one reason or another

Any ideas for how to make this race idea interesting?
10 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Maybe make them intensely agrarian? The majority of mountain races in fantasy seem to live in concentrated settlements and have a focus on smithing or production of some kind or another. Maybe the inventiveness of this group has been in high altitude farming techniques? They could have villages surrounded by extensive terraces growing weird vegetables, and you could play around with the isolated nature of mountain valleys and the communal aspects of an agricultural society.

They live solitary lives except for "harvest" and "mining" season. They harvest massive mushrooms that grow in their mining tunnels, feeding on creatures that are killed by spores and semi sentient fungi humanoids and on the minerals in the stone, thus weakening the walls enough to be mined easily once cleared out. This way they gather food before gathering metals and gems.

I use IRC mostly, it's a simple and very basic client but I like having a different channel for IC and OOC and you can get dicebots for almost anything these days. When I need a battlemap we use roll20, but for most games IRC does just fine.

I mean if you have to use roll20. Its easy to use and has some neat features. But its just not the same and not as good.

Are there any space marine chapters who make heavy use of chapter serfs in combat or just more use of them in general? (EG vehicle pilots, battlefield logistics, etc)

What would such a chapter be like?

>>
>>50345166

Space wolves have a big serf manned fleet.
>>
>>50345166
I always assumed serfs were driving the vehicles, at least. Or at least someone without power armor.
>>
>>50346592
All chapters with fleets use serfs to man them. It takes hundreds of men just to load a single macro cannon, the only Space Marines on a chapter ship are the ones being transported to the warzone and maybe the captain.
