Dear /tg/,
As a disgusting normiefag who can't find the people and party to DM and run campaigns with, I've been inclined to look for miniature inclined and adventure style board games. My wife and I had a fair amount of fun for instance with Arkham Horror. Recently I saw pic related in stores and am considering dropping some moolah on it. Would like some tg expertise on such games. As I understand it, there are Dragon Quest, Descent and Talisman as their competitors. Do they overshadow this fellow? Should I even bother with this? Thanks.

Ask /bgg/ please, but descent and talisman are very different from each other. Dragon quest is a vidya series and if you mean dungeon quest that game is also different from those two.
Descent is a dungeon crawler like advanced hero quest or warhammer quest, talisman is a potentially cooperative but yet also a screw your neighbor board game (you can get the vidya version for not that much which is almost an dungeon quest is RNG the game where luck matters more than careful planning. It's also a game where you'll die more times than living and where combat is confusing.

I played the base game and didn't care for it. The combat usually devolves into the heroes swapping dice rolls against the enemies that have surrounded them until the mob is cleared, especially at choke points. Few cases of tactical maneuvering or interesting decisions happening.

It's a two hour game of roulette with a fantasy theme. Lots of luck, little fun.
>Descent
This one's probably what you're looking for, though the rules could overwhelm a more casual player. It has campaigns and a good variety of scenarios to keep the game fresh. I'd suggest reading through the rules to see if your normie wife will play something this complex, especially since one of you would have to run two heroes since you have no neckbeard friends.

That's not really what adulthood rites were about, though. That's some modern degenerate shit.
A rite of passage entirely depends on the culture that it belongs to.
What's important to the people? What makes someone a respectable member of the community? If religion is really important, that probably factors into it. If it isn't, it might be related to something else.
In highly evolved cultures, generally adulthood rites are more detached and are often ceremonial, or are about showing gentility. In more primitive cultures it often revolves about proving that you are a provider or warrior in a 'traditional' way.

Now, EARNING a new name, that's something that you can really sink your teeth into. Kids have their normal names until they do something that's worthy of being remembered, then someone thinks of something clever and it sticks. It's one of those universal unspoken rites that a lot of different cultures have, though you mostly see it in the culture of war where people are just trying to find something to distract them from all the death.

If you like soviets, as I do, we research a division and come up with a fanlist for them, like the late-war-leviathans project. Paratroopers are an obvious one but there's a couple of guards tanks brigades I remember doing cool stuff I'd need to look up. A lot of folks here who aren't me apparently know a lot more about the naval infantry than I do, so I trust you guys.

Not to derail the lovely discussion we were having... but is anyone building/ has anyone played against BritBong milan spam yet? Is is OP or are we just missing some easy counters to it? I think a mix of pinning and focus fire on the Carl Gustavs could leave the door open for them to be run over by cheap tanks with bazooka skirts. Take advantage of the milans minimum range.

Game will ship out in waves, starting in 2017, and ending in 2020. Each wave will have its own pledge manager, and you will pay shipping for it once they are ready to ship that wave.

Just increase the amount you are pledging by the cost of the add on. For example, if you are backing at the $50 level, and would like the First Hero expansion ($35), you would leave your pledge LEVEL the same, but change the pledge AMOUNT to $85.

The Kickstarter is to fund a new edition of the game. If you get the game through the Kickstarter, it will have the update pack already included. If you already own the core game, you need to by the update pack to make everything compatible.

We don't know yet, but that may be the case. Other way, there are no levels you can back at that don't include either the update pack, or the updated core game, so any base pledge you get will be compatible with the new expansions either way.
