Any recommendations on systems to run a game in the Alien/Predator universe?

Dread.

Not even joking.

Is that the Jenga thing? I'm looking to do something a little less horror, a little more sci-fi action.
>>
>>50407907
It is.

But if you want to keep it on the sci-fi side, I think pretty much any generic (sci-fi) game will do the trick. These things are staples of the genre, so you should find the necessary elements in most such games.

Tell me about your most fun/interesting NPCs. The ones the players love, or started as someone mundane and grew to be lovable.

>Players are trying to fight Laurence, Angel of Swords
>Hiding out in a house, human characters are getting hungry
>Order a pizza, Fate Angel suddenly senses the pizza delivery man has a great destiny
>"What is your name, great warrior."
>"Um. Lawrence? Lawrence de Lorenzo."
>Party recruit him, give him a sword
>He ends up landing the death blow and defeats an Laurence by being an even better Laurence-with-a-sword than he ever could.

My favorite NPC is one the players hated, but he was their enemy, so I'm counting it as a win.

He started as a simple NPC cop who I decided to slap a name on, but somehow every time he was around, I would roll pretty well. Well enough to match a vampire in one-on-one combat and even managing to completely destroy them during interrogation.

During some covert rolls I did, he would always manage to follow them and get info on their actions and whereabouts, making flawless reports and at one point securing a warrant for the party.

It got to the point where the campaign shifted gear in them trying to silence all witnesses and then going after their sworn enemy. It's sad that we had to call it off due to IRL stuff, I had prepared greatness.

I think I'm gonna contact all of them, get the game going once more, just online.

So you're saying ... that using geneseed of traitor primarchs would cause space marines to betray, go crazy, or go rogue?

Literally how?

THE OMNISSIAH WILLS IT *BOLTER TO HEAD*
>>
>>50406959
In some cases, the gene-seed imparts certain psychological traits derived from the Primarch. The Iron Warriors were all known for being extremely bitter and stubborn, the Night Lords paranoid and sadistic, and so on. So yes, using gene-seed from those Legions which have turned traitor might result in a Chapter prone to the same lines of thought which led to their forebears turning traitor.
>>
>>50407006
But surely there are many such chapters and even inquisitors with the same psychological traits running around purging heretics and aliens?

What you guys think are good limitations on magic?

I always have been fond of the donkey rule, myself.
If your magic can do the work of a farm donkey cheaper and easier than it then you (prbably) broke your economy.

Image semi-related.

I'm always a big fan of "Magic cannot touch [x], hard rule, no exceptions," or sometimes even "Magic cannot come within yea distance of [x]" rules. In the same vein, a setting I saw had magic hard-limited in how far it could reach from you, and not a very big one. "5 meters" was considered an enormous range for magic.

Other obvious ones:
1) Magic is fatiguing.
2) Magic causes other bad shit to happen when you use it. (a la Perils of the Warp; though this one is tricky since you have to keep in mind the fact that it punishes the entire party, and can be weaponized in the right situation)
3) Magic has to be secret / dissolves in the presence of non-magical people. (Mage style; basically it's above, but with a really common [x])
>>
Simplest way to explain why magic doesn't overtake a world where it exist is to simply say it is very hard, complex, requires years of study with no guaranteed result. Casting a spell is a mentally taxing task and drawing/composing/creating spells is even more complex.

Someone who deals with really advanced math should have no problem understanding the limitations of magic. Imagine a spell as a very complex equation with many variables, and instead of using numbers, it uses several symbols for concepts. So you are limited in how you approach it not just by logic, but also by your own understanding of things.

So for example...A teleport spell is a better way to get somewhere than ship or cart. But few people know how to cast it, and they arent willing to go through all the effort in mentalizing and spending the energy to simply transport wheat into the capital. They use it for their own agendas, or as a favor to someone who can afford it. And even then, they can't mass produce the effect in a scale necessary for reliable line of production.
>>
>>50405899
You could do it like the Stormlight Archive and make magic reliant on a mineable resource. This would naturally make the minable resource a good object to use as money.
There you go, now you can only use magic if you are rich or have someone rich to give you casting materials.

Is he really chaotic evil? He plans a lot ahead. A bit too intelligent for chaotic evil.

That's because you've lowered your expectations of Chaotic Evil down to stupid player level.

He's Chaotic Evil alright, but he's Tzeentchian chaotic evil. He plans within plans within plans just to sow as much chaos and anarchy as possible. He sees the big picture and decides to stick a monkey wrench in exactly the right place to cause as much mayhem as possible.

Do Orks have any means, tactics or qualities that'd allow them to cleanse the daemons off of a daemon infested world?

Suppose it was just a planet of orks. Could a Daemon prince and those underlings beneath them ever possibly be conquored by orks, turned back into the materium?

The Imperium uses holy symbols, sigils and geometry on their armor and weapons to act as banes, they have psykers that are trained to fight them. But what weaponry or special tools would orks have to punch daemons so hard they couldn't rematerialize on that planet?

So... we already had that huge argument about the Interracial Gay couple in Magic.

And the Caster Supremacy thread is still going.

Also another thread hating on Dwarves

Not to mention the thread that got 404'd on Anime ruining RPGs.

Can you guys stop arguing about stupid shit and admit that very few of you actually play Traditional Games often enough to actually care about these trivial matters? I mean you're all just Salty about not having a group, or you're not happy unless you're pissed about something and have a Scapegoat for it.

At least /pol/ is consistent in who they blame.

Why have different colors/factions/whatever? Why not have one pool of cards? Aren't the cards in a given deck enough to differentiate it from others?
11 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>50403552
Some trading card games work like that. Generally, however, it's better to have multiple colors that represent multiple things in the game, so as to ensure that no one deck can do everything and thus dominate the play experience.
>>
>>50403552
You've either never seen a power gamer or you are one. Splitting up the decks like that help with minimizing broken combos and defining play style.

It's something like 12 pages long, because it's rules for four models and then a bunch of fluff and scenarios.
It was never meant to be a giant codex.
I think they even gave it away free with WD or something during the 90s/00s.
>>
>>50403262
Its a codex for assassins, which were special characters that numbered 4 different units that could be taken in Imperial armies.

It came with a particular issue of White Dwarf didn't it?

How would you make a setting like pic related?

A Megas XLR setting?
>Weird grungy, nu metal, pre Kurt Cobain an heroing, Tony Hawk's pro skater 2, fuck MTV, Jay and Silent Bob, "it's not a phase mom" culture
- Car\Motorbike culture as the starting point, adding in rock stuff comes AFTER that.
- Pro Skater 2 is right on the money, so more cookie-cutter punk: Early AFI, NoFX, Rancid, Blink-182, Fat Wreck bands, et cetera.

>Not so much diesel punk tech but not futuristic when it comes to giant robots
- Make Mechs a thing that was invented during the cold war, with all the classic brands (Chevy, Pontiac, Buick, DeSoto, Oldsmobile, Plymouth, Lincoln, bla bla bla) creating their versions. Mechs were a symbl of patriotism.
Internal strife comes between all-american mechists, who worship Americana, and the growing "Fast-Furious"-Scene which rely on cheaper chinese imports and sit at the national anthem. If you want to go full retard, you could make it more political than that, but I'd advise you not to.
> you could ditch the mechs all together for a more, less digital, Shadowrun feel
- Now I am starting to be unsure if I understand you. What feeling are you trying to capture if not "working class slob pilots mech"?
>>
>>50402382

I think he's just trying to find a niche for non-mech pilot adventures. Any good mecha setting has to have shit to do for the people on the ground or in planes after all.

How to integrate the Godzilla/Tonkatsu monster elements and 90's Xmen-Go-To-Space-Teen-Titans-Learn-Starfire's-backstory Comic Book Scifi parts of Megas is my question.
>>
>>50402382
This is fantastic
I was just saying if someone had an idea that didn't involve being a pilot it was cool

URealms General. Discuss Unforgotten Realms, the URealms system, and URealms Live here.

With URealms Live's next campaign scheduled for later today, we are nearing the end of Season 2.

So I'm here to ask /tg/
>Do you know about URealms Live?
>What do you think about it?
>Are you excited to see this new adventure in the Den of Devils?

>"OP, what the fuck is URealms?"

URealms is the latest incarnation of the old Newgrounds/Escapist web series "Unforgotten Realms," by Rob Moran (also known for the Buffalo Wizards, Dwarves VS Zombies, and Lords of Minecraft). Having accumulated a group of regular players from various internet friends and acquaintances, he runs one-shot campaigns set in the setting of the Unforgotten Realms in a system of his own devising, hosted in Tabletop Simulator. Campaigns are aired on Twitch, but can also be viewed from the URealms website.

>"What the hell is the point of watching live?"

While the show is operated for free, donations are encouraged. To help encourage donations, events are designed that can give the already built adventure more twists and turns. These range from small things to help the players, to giving new abilities to monsters, to giving the adventure a sudden, dark change at the end, and even more. The meta-level has recently taken an interesting twist, with Sins of the Unforgotten appearing and rare acknowledgments of "the gods" who watch the world and manipulate it for their own amusement.

>"What, so if I don't see the show live, I just miss it?"

Some of the donation events go up before a campaign starts, and the whole show is broken down into episodes that are about an hour long each and posted to Youtube on Rob's channel (Bruce Willakers) during the week after.

I wonder what kind of names that will show up this week. Coe and Deadbones tend to do running gags with their names, but Justin comes up with some gems every now and then, too.

Roamin's Porc character might be the weirdest one this week though. He's gonna have to come up with a name for his story.

I mean... sure, but what's so interesting about that?
>>
>>50401643
Marco is blind. And Polo is deaf.

They call each other's names as a joke, but greenskin goblins share a mental link, so they know what's going on through each other. As long as they're together, they're not really handicapped.
