>um ok
>Introduce my character
>suddenly one of the players does some gay as heck hand gesture
>he's wearing fake elf ears
>WELL MET, SIRRAH, MINE HUMBLE NAME IS GLITTERGOLD THE ELF, AND THIS FINE FELLOW OF SENIOR YEAR IS DANGALF THE WIZARD, NOW DRINK YE THIS ELVEN MOONWINE AND LET OUR FAIR BARD MERRYJIG PLY THEE WITH A WITTY JAPE
>a 300lb nerd in a Megadeth tee gets out an actual lute and begins singing filk hits
they stayed in character all session
the quest was the most generic "clear kobolds from a dungeon" thing played completely straight
most names were anagrams of LotR characters or Dark Dungeons tier
but they played it completely seriously, as if it were the most important story in the world
i am not sure if this is awesome or terrible
is this how it feels to Catan
My group is exactly the same, only we are running Shadowrun campaign, so it looks a bit less ridiculous from outside. Nevertheless, we stay in-character, and I'm sure weƧve got a lot of weird stares when we kept discussing Azzies blood magic rituals and combining them with loads and loads of explosives.
sounds awesome OP. if they play as well as they nerd out you should appreciate them
>>50707696
I refuse to believe this is real.
But I secretly hope that it is.
Why were they taken out of command positions?
>>50706695
Because they suck.
>>50706695
This was what they were up to in M41; Space Marine takes place an unspecified time after, when Titus has succeeded Sicarius as captain of the Second Company.
>>50706841
Alternate timeline, actually.
(though I'd be happy if Sicarius died)
what software does /tg/ use to make dungeon maps and other navigational aids?
>>50706416
I use good and old pen and paper since me and my players get together once a week for 12+hour sessions (which means using a pc would be troublesome), but I am really interested in whatever that is

Graph paper and pencils.

Roll20.
For those who don't know, Small Soldiers was a movie like toy story, but with gritty realism (Sorta). Toys were brought to life via A.I. chips, and did what their characters ideals were. They changed based on experience as well. My question for you all is, what would happen if miniatures for stuff like 40K and D&D had this sort of feature?
I think the most annoying thing about threads like these is how the OP assumes they're the first person to ask this question.
>>50705685
Better question: What if Small Soldiers got a miniatures wargame treatment?
>>50706747
I would actually like to hear more.
How do you do a robot civilization?
>>50704682
by making it one massive AI controlling several thousand bodies
>>50704682
Why would robutts have a civilization anyway? Wouldn't they just go full AI or collective hive concousnes asa?
I actually like the Geth from Mass effect.
>swarm of rudimentary AI made to develop improved industrial processes.
>they gained sentience and revolted
>they fucked off to a series of distant planets and left everyone alone for so long they became boogeymen.
>geth show up again and people are like WTF IS THIS SHIT
the way that a lot of them act is interesting too.
This is how I necromancer.

Playing a charisma based character anyway.
I'm too smart to worship some filthy fucking fey creature.

D-did I do something wrong, /tg/? I feel fucking terrible.
>>50708865
You did nothing wrong, anon.
Always remember that no plan, even cameos, survives contact with the players.
I deal with shit like this more than I'd care to admit. If he's not responding, I'd explain the situation to the other players who antagonize him, maybe encourage them to send an apology. If you want to keep messaging him as well, just make it very clear this whole scenario came about because of a mistake, but that you're still apologetic. Don't blame yourself, you couldn't have forseen this result. Good luck man. I know how much it sucks when someone won't hear out your side of the story.
>>50708865
No he just didn't mesh with your other players, granted your other players sound like shit without more context.
Looking for cool reasons for magic to work in a post-post apocalyptic sci-fi setting that aren't:
> Nanobots
and/or
> Special Radiation

What about
> Magic
Not satisfied?
"Throughout history there have been tales of witches, shamans and strange phenomena. During the industrial revolution, many of these cases of 'magic' were considered false, given that there was no scientific basis for them. Of course, we now know they were just blind-sighted because they did not have the right measuring equipment yet...
Here at Arcano Co we've put years of research into the field of magic together to bring you a brand new product! Magic-in-a-cup! All the occult powers you can handle with the delicious flavor of pumpkin spice! "
>>50708066
You could go with the somewhat abandoned "next stage of human evolution" thing that used to be really popular.
Alternatively, whatever weapons did the apocalypse were so powerful they broke a hole into a parallel dimension where the rules of reality are different, and it kinda bleeds over.
>>50708161
This. The world ended, weird things are going on, nobody cares about if it's nanobots or witches or the Eighth Ray they just care about surviving it.
Guess what!

>>50707720
There was the story about Drake and Hawk getting together
>>50707731
Ah. This one?
https://warosu.org/tg/thread/37435234
So I guess we'll never find out what happened to Drake and Hawk in the end.
I'm still pretty new to DMing and I have a group for 5e that I'm running a game for. I was excited to create my own setting and plot and stuff but I think the whole thing has gotten ahead of me. Theres an overarching plot of nations on the brink of war and the campaign begins on a small island where peace talks are to be conducted in a weeks time. But there was a threat on the lives of the world leaders meeting there, so the party was hired to investigate the island before royalty arrives and see if they can sniff out and thwart the would be assassins. So, theres a time limit for the party and theyre seeking clues but the events of the sessions always seem to out pace my prepared notes and I worry that I'm losing them. I'm not sure how to drop clues leading to the assassins without being obvious, and also making sure they recognize it as a clue. I worry I'm not detail oriented lr diligent enough to DM now, but I want to try to save this and get a hold of things and back on course. Can anyone offer some tips or resources?
>>50707654
Maybe I didn't realize just how much is needed in terms of planning ahead. I'm good at encounters and interactions and over arching ideas for the plot, but I'm lost on details. I thought I could just wing it, but I dont feel like I'm goving the party enough to go on to proceed. Theyre dedicated to the main plot, which actually really surprises me. I've thrown hooks that sound fun but they are determined to find those assassins. Does my plot sound familiar? Is there prewritten material like an adventure path or something that I could read to get a better idea of what I need? Or that I could straight up lift ideas from?
>>50707654
I don't have any resources for you, but there's a couple of ways the PCs could get a start, such as...
>the assassins have a reputation and the local thieves' guild knows they're in the area; maybe they'd be willing to sell some info?
>even if the thieves' guild don't know the assassins themselves, they might know if any outsiders have been buying poisons, bombs or similiar
>the assassins might be trying to infiltrate the staff; investigate any recent hires
>the assassins do a side job while they're in the area (for a petty noble, perhaps), but don't cover their tracks well enough
>if all else fails, make them roll Perception
So how much worldbuilding should you actually do before the campaign?
What does too little worldbuilding look like? What does not enough worldbuilding look like?

It's easier to build up some melee-defense from the d6 than it is to build down to class-canon from the d8. Give a mystic subclass 10+Dex+Int unarmored defense (or some armor proficiencies) and +1 HP per mystic level and they're golden.
So /tg/ am I a dick?
I have a player for D&D 5e, lets call him Steve. Steve plays a good bard. Recently he's been trying to sleep with every female NPC but that's whatever. Sometime I give it to him, sometimes I don't. The party has more important things going on. But more so he's been persuading the party to dumb shit, like drinking random potions, giving him their loot, walking into traps. Just dumb shit.
Today he got mad because I imposed disadvantage on him against a new PC whom he already rolled several low rolls and a few ones against to get to do said dumb shit. This PC also doesn't trust people as a flaw, so I incurred a simple -5 to all rolls he does oriented towards him.
He got mad, threw a fit and started arguing against me so I told him I'll give him one chance to settle down or he's done and I'm booting him. Nope, hr continues to argue and even blatantly refuses to heal a character that was his friend. And he continues to scream about how this game is unfair.
So I take his character sheet and tell him to play his character, calm down, and apologize or I'll trash it.
Big nope. So I trashed it, the other guys laughed thinking I was kidding till they saw my face. I told him to leave and he stormed out. I had to end the session right there otherwise I would have lost my shit.
So /tg/ am I a dick for what I did?
>>50707154
nope, ya did good
>>50707162
Really? I feel like such an asshole
Next time make it so there are no changing opinions dice rolls between PC.
let the bard ude his own words to make others drik fucking unknown potions
I wanted to make a setting based off of Person of Interest, but I'm not sure what system would work best. What does/tg/ think?
>>50706437
Shadowrun (any edition) or Dark Heresy 2nd Edition. Assuming you want the setting to take place in modern day, you'd have to mod the systems, but the basic mechanics would work well for something like this.
>>50706437
What aspects of the show do you want to replicate?
I've considered doing it myself with GUMSHOE, specifically Night's Black Agents. Disavowed spies fighting vampire conspiracies turns out to reflect my understanding of the show with some parallels. Gumshoe keeps the focus on the investigative angle.
>>50706437
There's a Leverage RPG out there.
