Imagine you could buy a Canon EOS 5D Mark III for €900, but it had a shutter count of over 450.000 (while still working perfectly). Would you do it?
[_] No.
[x] Fuck no.
would you fuck a girl that was with 100 different guys before you? shes still able to fuck some more. would you?
yeah, i thought so.
>>3002149
Would you care to explain? Replacing the shutter would cost between €200 and €300 and, needless to say, give you a fresh shutter.
get a load of these b/w shots of a city + two different parties
I shot a kodak tri-x 400 roll @ 1000iso, then I had it sent it to the lab for developing saying I wanted these pushed and there's obviously been some misunderstanding somewhere
some I left dark, some I brightened in post
all have been scanned with a canon canoscan F9000, resized, most have been sharpened a bit, and everything was compressed
enjoy

So, I recently upgraded to an A7II from an a6000. I have the zeiss 55 1.8 and am looking to get more glass for my a7ii. My a6000 is in pretty good condition (just some scratches on the screen) and has a Samyang 12mm f/2.0 and the 16-50mm kit lens. I saw online the body/kit lens combo is going anywhere from 300 - 500 bucks used. The lens is in the range of 200 - 300 used.
I was wondering if you think it would be reasonable/doable to list it on eBay with a starting price of around 550 / 600 USD. Am I going to high or too low for this? If I can only get 400 bucks for it then I'll just keep it.
I should also mention it wouldn't include a battery because I use all of them on my new A7II.
>Fuck Sony's battery life, honestly... fuck that.
Can I have it?
>>3001652
Nobody is going to buy your fucking meme without a battery you moron, and nobody will pay a premium for your samsong trash to go with it.
Kill yourself, delet this thread, post in the gear thread.

Do you not buy all new batteries for a used camera when you buy it?
WTF are you doing with your life?

One of the excitements of photography is the balance of meaning and form. On the one hand you have the formal point of view which is nothing but the sum and all its details within a configuration of colors, lines and volumes which compose the image. On the other hand, you have meaning, brought forth by what these images represent. A photograph of a human may appeal to mere formal perception, or it can enter into the realm of subject matter and meaning. My preference is to maintain an equilibrium of both.
A good example would be of a balance between the two would be Nude (Charis, Santa Monica) by Edward Weston. It is both beautiful in its formalist attributes as well as its potency in its representation of what a human is - that is to say, not seeing the human simply as a visual object, but the humanity that it represents. We see the beautiful form, the shapes that comprise it, the delicate gradation of tones, the nuances of texture and the movement of lines that lead us around the image to visit every part of this well designed composition. From a distanced and dispassioned appreciation of the image, this is the aesthetic value we can find in the image: it is beautiful simply for how it looks, never mind what it is. That same mindset is behind all formalist photography - things are beautiful for how they appear, regardless of what they are. But Weston’s nude is not purely formalist, regardless of his intentions as a photographer. His photographs Nautilus and Pepper No. 30 succeeded as beautiful photographs in the strictly formalist sense, because the potential meaning of the subjects he photographs never emerges in the composition as a point of interest. The pepper is not a pepper, it is a convoluted and dynamic form of light and shadow, powerful and struggling. The shell is not a shell, but a smooth, delicate, symmetrical form that has nothing more to do with the ocean than it does with a flower. But the subject in Nude (Charis, Santa Monica) is not a mere form, no matter how beautiful that form may be.
>>3001155
Despite how well Weston holds a dispassioned and disinterested eye toward his subject, and how well he captures the beauty of his subject’s form, the subject itself is too easily recognizeable as a human being to be seen as a mere composition of lines, shapes, tones, and textures. We can never underestimate the human mind’s ability to conceptualize and attribute meaning to an object, and the moment that the figure of Weston’s subject became recognizable as the figure of a human being, It has transcended into the realm of form to subject matter. A floodgate of meaning associated with the subject in Weston’s Nude is opened up the moment we see that the subject is a human, and that the human is female, and that she is nude, and that she is holding her body, and that her body is contorted, and that she is hiding her face. It is now much more than the aesthetic beauty of the form in Weston’s photograph that attracts us, it is the emotional potency in the recognizable humanity that it represents. This is the balance of meaning and form.

not the best example
it's obvious that nude is pure formalism: deliberate effortful pose, deliberate light (the shadows on the right arm are crucial for the pose/whole photo to work), no (human/behavioral/ambiental) spontaneity, i.e. elements of the frame which cannot be easily controlled. I believe it's easier to derive meaning from something spontaneous. in nude, the human element is just used to exploit it's (i.e. the female body) inherent aesthetic value.
there are many examples of meaningful formalism in street photography, photojournalism and even fashion photography. In early posed photography, that spontaneity is best observed in facial expressions.
(both are great great photos)
Here is a macro shot I took of some pills? How could I improve my macro shooting abilities? I am using a Nikon D7200 and an el-cheapo macro lens. I need budget ideas on how to improve my macro shots. Please critic my photo for me so I can improve my skills with my camera. I hate to use Photoshop and would rather get the picture.
I want from my camera, so I don't have to manipulate the image on my computer unless It is absolutely necessary to use Photoshop to make the picture look good.

That picture is awesome. What lens did you use to get that close up to your subject?
>>3000338
Short answer: light.
Light your subjects like the surface of the sun, preferably with a flash and reflectors/diffusers. But you will also need some always on light source so you can see what you are doing and focus prior to using the flash.
Ring lights are good. Several cheap LED ring lights and a transformer can be useful, but are not ideal. Many companies that make always-on led ring lights try to make them look like they are strobes, they usually aren't.
An actual strobe type ring light with a 'modelling light' that can be turned on so you can see what you are doing prior to the shot, is ideal.

quick question /p/.
What's up with my camera?
I saw my friend selling his, and he was mentioning shutter count, and his is 60.000
After finding out what it means, I wanted to check mine as well.
I used a few websites where you upload a pic so it can read the shutter number, but the webpages were displaying errors.
I also tried downloading a program that detects when I turn my camera on, and it detects when I shut it off.
But for the shutter count, it displays 0. If I snap a picture, the program refreshes, but still displays the number at 0.
The camera I'm using is a Canon 400d.
Any help?

If you use Lightroom, you can view the metadata of all your images. The Metadata will tell you what your shutter is. Your baby is very cute btw.
I'm going to shoot my first nude set today, but I'm a complete noob on this, have no advanced techs and I have this thing for only shooting on BW.
I'm here humbly asking for some tips. Did anyone here ever shoot a nude set (better, a BW nude set) befor?
I have a Nikon 5200, and a 1.8/f 50mm. Basic gear. The lights at my apartment are yellow. At the balcony there are white lights.
Here an example from the photographer "Gessica Hage". It's not an "Erotic" set, it is to be a female form capture, and all that.

My family has this big "tradition" thing where once you turn 18 you have to spend 30 days solo travelling around Europe as a life experience or whatever.
I turned 18 last week, and my 30 day European tour is gonna be in the summer. I havent ever travelled on my own before - any tips on not getting my camera stolen/smashed up while travelling?

go back to bed Mark
1) Keep your camera hidden as much as possible; only take it out when you're going to take a photo.
2) Buy an anti-theft strap for the camera and the bag (ex. pic related).
3) Always wear the strap when taking photos.
4) Never walk away from your camera (ex. for self-time photos of yourself).
5) Always carry your camera as a carry-on in any transportation.
6) Never let someone else take a photo of you, or if you have to, make sure its someone who works at the location (ex. a security guard, a waiter), or a very trustworthy tourist (ex. slow-looking senior American tourist).
7) If you're on the train with your camera bag, make sure its secure (ex. hold it on your lap, or even better, tie a bicycle lock around it and through your belt -- this may sound autistic but I did it when I was sleeping in second class trains in southeast asia).
8) Never ever ever talk to the gypsies. Never. You'll see them at a lot of the iconic photo location (ex. Eiffel Tower). Watch out. If someone asks you to sign their petition, or asks if you speak english, or anything else like that, then immediately do a 360 degree spin with your foot out to trip any pickpockets and check your pockets and yell "BACK THE FUCK UP".

For those of you who pursue photography as an art form: does it eat you up inside knowing that you don't have the will power to actually learn how to draw?

Photography is the least explored medium in art, while painting is the most overdone
Hi /p/, some second opinions required on this dilemma.
I took a series of photos a few years ago and they are meant to be a series. The context behind them isn't apparent unless they are all together and in the correct order.
After speaking with another photographer about it I was asked if I'd like to be part of a collaborative book being made, so I submitted them.
Now I am being told that 'some' of them will be in the book.
I'd much prefer the entire series be in there, even as a one page collage. Otherwise I'm thinking I ask not to be part of the book.
I feel like my integrity as an artist is about to be compromised and I don't like that shit.
Am I being too much of a tosser about this?
What would you do?
(Pic somewhat related in that the trees visual aesthetic has been compromised by some stupid power lines.)
