Hello, I am using a nikon d3200 as a body. I am looking for a budget, decent lens that can make some decent bokeh. Can you guys suggest or recommend me some lens for the nikon d3200?

I got a used 50 mm 1.8 G for a little less than $200, though that may be expensive. The D version has ever so slightly different image quality and doesn't autofocus with the d3200 but it's like half the price.

Took this image with a d3200 and 50mm 1.8G but I probably overprocessed it lol.

My cousin will be baptized next week

>anon, you have a bunch of cameras, don't you?
>won't you photograph your cousin's baptism?

Help, /p/, I just collect old cameras and take some pictures with my DSLR. How to proceed? Is this the same shit as a wedding? Post some tutorials, please.

My gear:
>D3300
>18-55 crappy kit lens
>55-200 crappy kit tele lens
>50 f1.4
>55 f3.5 macro
>old analog manual flash

Should I say fuck digital and go full analog?

You tell them in no uncertain way that you are not a professional photographer and that if they want professional photos they need to hire one.

you stick with the 200mm, stay as far out the way as possible and fucking spray the whole event but mainly the kid. you tell them you need a specific vantage point for then the baby is being drowned so you can actually get the moment captured.

Ask someone with some more skills than you to PP a couple of the best photos, if youre 'EXTREMELY' lucky /p/ might even do this for you.
>>
I've been the family photographer, so for my niece and nephews baptism I was a given choice, wasn't asked, just a default option.
So, you're probably that guy in the family.

I was asked to shoot a wedding, but I strongly declined, several times. That shit is a whole different thing.

Anyway, as for you OP, going analog will take time. They'd most likely want to post that shit on facebook.
My brothers wife wanted my photos straight out of the camera, but I told her, also several times, that that's not how it works.

So ask if they can wait for the photos till they are done on your end, or just go full digital.
You can also have both with you.

If possible, ask everyone involved if you can be up close clacking away.
I wasn't until the whole procedure was done. So I sat kindly in the front row with tele lens.

But that was a while ago, so I'd day those poor priests are used to have them being in selfies, they might not mind if you don't ask.

I have a bunch of mediocre snapshits in DNG format that I want to back up to my Google Photos account as JPEGs, and then delete from my hard drive to free up a couple TB of disk space.

Is there an optimal way to batch process these pics before exporting them to JPEG, so that in the unlikely event that I'll need to dig one up later for post processing, I'd be able to do so with minimal further degradation to image quality? Would it be a bad idea to just apply Auto WB and Auto Tone to every photo in LR prior to exporting as JPEG?
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
If you were to do that you'd be completely defeating the point of shooting them in raw format in the first place. Unless you're retarded with WB during shooting I wouldn't bother with gambling on LR's auto tone/wb.
>>
>>3005254
IIRC the unlimited backup to google photos is JPEGs which they compress. If you want to backup uncompressed JPEGs then you eat into your drive space.

Re: your question - no idea, I just buy external HDDs and store all my raw files. I used to delete my raw files for useless snapshits and experiments but recently I've wanted to play around with some of that stuff and regretted not having the raws.

Post processing is a crucial part of photography my man. I would wager that 99% of the photos that you considered so good that they drew you to photography in the first place probably had a disappointing (to you, inspiring to others) amount of processing.

You're still stuck in the "a camera is a magic box" phase of your photography. Persist, press on. You won't be less disillusioned about your aspirations, but you'll at least have some perspective.

Thanks for the advice. I feel that maybe I hate post processing because I never know what I'm doing, and two weeks later I always end up hating my edits and they look way too overdone from my new perspective.

I guess I'll do some research and buy some books on post processing to better understand the art and hopefully learn to enjoy it.

First time with a camera this year. Very foggy very dark. Some serious issues with ISO and underexposure etc but some came out ok I think.

Also Need more practice with editing tbqh. I dont have any formula yet just wave sliders about randomly until I find something so any tips would be welcome.

Is the bokeh only like it is in this still or does it also have a bit of a swirl to it? Because the helios lenses from good ol' USSR creates a similar bokeh but with a swirl as well. Not that I think that they would be using those old lenses for something like a tv-show though.

So I bought a Pentax K1000 off of ebay for $55 with the 50mm lens included. The camera is in awesome condition, looks beautiful, everything works except for the light meter. It's always stuck in the middle.
I installed a new battery in it, still wasn't working.
I even tried wiping the battery contact thing with my shirt but it didn't do anything.
Has anyone had any experience with getting the light meter to work?
I tried the test thing where you put the camera in Bulb mode ASA 100 and the meter was still in the middle.
Seller refunded my money and surprisingly just said I could keep the camera as well.

Just use sunny 16 if you're outside or use your smartphone as a meter with the proper app. A meter isn't a big deal, half of my cameras doesn't have one and the other half are without batteries anyways.

Metering light is a meme people were fine without a meter until the end of the 60's.
>>
>>3003104
the cable that connect the light meter to the battery must be fucked up because a sulfated battery.take the bottom off and remove the battery cradle, there should be a black cable attached to it.if the cable is long enough you might be able to fix it, if not you need to disassemble the camera and recable the thing....or just don't use the light meter.

I could use my t3i or iPhone as a light meter, which I will probably have to do, but I was really hoping I could rely on the camera itself. unfortunately, I think the problem is what >>3003172 is talking about.
The light meter needle is stuck in the very middle, but it DOES move veryyyyy slightly when I change my exposure settings, but when I say very slightly, I mean it only moves up or down like 5 degrees.
