I've been lurking around for a while and just got started so I hope this doesn't sound retarded. Is there a way to automatically shoot in a 1:1 crop ratio on a nikon d3300 so I don't have to later on crop a bunch of pictures/lose quality? I don't know if this is possible and I hope this makes sense.
I meant aspect ratio not crop ratio whoops

Hello fellow anons, I would like to get some advice on which camera to buy for general purposes.
Main Use:
-To capture everyday things from rooms/restaurants/furniture-details/architecture (I am an interior designer)
Secondary Use:
- Personal-Use/Tours
Extra:
- Preferably would love a camera decent enough to capture pictures during nighttime
Budget: $150-$300
Don't need something professional. Just something workable to create a decent looking compilation/portfolio or even just to keep a library of ideas.
Notes:
- I live in Vancouver, so I hope the products recommended is within reach from amazon or nearby stores (lol) but still I am open to unreachable products.
Thanks in advance! I didn't know if this should be in /p or /adv but there you go!
Edit: Budget $150-450

looks like shit
Hey, /p/, I'm getting back into photography after far too long of a break (years). But I'm contemplating something:
How difficult is it to stop doing free work for people you know?
This is more of a thought than a practice, for clarification. But you all know what I mean: The "You have a nice camera! you're invited to my kid's birthday party!" thing.
It would be very tempting for some friends and coworkers, sure -- especially if they're willing to allow use for your portfolio. But if you're going to make money on the side using photography, at what point do you stop doing favors and start demanding pay to show up?
>>3002471
>How difficult is it to stop doing free work for people you know?
Grow a pair and say no or move to another city
>>3002471
Hide your camera under your shirt and only pull it out when you want to take a picture, that way no one will know you have a camera
>>3002489
How cute: You like to toss out insult without even addressing the question at hand.
Do you feel better about yourself now? I hope so. Maybe one day you can move out of your mommy's basement. Perhaps after learning how to read context.
But then, you probably already believe you're intelligent enough to realize that the question isn't how to stop, but rather when, and the difficulties involved with being 'that person' who suddenly stop toting the nice camera to casual gatherings, and at what point to actually draw that line.
c&c plz

Hello guys, I purchased online this Carl Zeiss Distagon 60 f/3.5 C for $290
When I received it I checked the lenses and BAM, shit tons of fungus, we could fill a wood with them, all in the rear lens group.
By the way, the seller assured me that the lens was ok so I could get a total refound sending back the item.
According to your opinion, should I ask for a partial refund (how much??) and try to clean it with hydrogen peroxide (130) and bleach (28%) or I should give up on it?
>>3001644
Never hurts to try if the rear lens group is easily accessible. You could also try leaving it in direct sunlight for a few hours. Fungus isn't a fan of UV light. I'd try to get all of my money back honestly, if there was no indication whatsoever of the condition that's pretty shitty of them to do, especially since this isn't a single colony. I wouldn't take anything less than half.
>>3001650
I'd ask a $190 refund, otherwise I'll send it back.
As far as I know I think that Hasselblad Distagon's rear lens group is kind of difficoult to reach. And also I know that UV light is only useful to kill the colonies but not to eliminate their presence.
>>3001653
Right, if you can't separate the group then all UV will do is stop it from getting worse.
I have a 120mm Zeiss Planar that has pretty significant hazing on the front element but unfortunately it's cemented to another element so I can't get in between them to clean it. From what I can tell it doesn't have too much of an impact on image quality luckily but it sure doesn't look nice.
Best of luck to you, I know how frustrating it is to have such a nice lens seemingly compromised because of the conditions it was stored in.
Went on vacation. Took some snapshits, polished some turds.
I'd be interested in other people's thoughts on the post on a few of these - I have a feel I have the habit of going a bit overboard at times with the contrast or color adjustments, so if there's anything particularly nauseating or vomit-inducing, let me know (would also appreciate if you also point out the opposite).

This is the Film General Thread: "General Threads Are Cancer" Edition.
This is a place to post your film photos without flushing them down the Recent Photo Toilet. It's OK to ask about gear in this thread.
>just posting in the FGT doesn't make you gay, unless the post doesn't contain an original film photograph of yours
This is the last FGT I will OP.
I've given myself another outlet that isn't fourchannel, so I haven't posted OC here for months.
I've been pretty disappointed with the quality of these threads for some time now anyway.
Few photos except for rank newfags posting unedited lab scans; eager beavers jumping in to OP threads with their off-topic personal snapshits and no title in the subject field that cause them to sink like rocks and stagnate for weeks; lost village idiots trying to find /vid/; general desertion of the board by all forms of intelligent life thanks to tripfags shitting the place up with soap opera blogs.
I just want you all to know you're the reason we can't have nice things.

Fucking love this.
Didn't see a general thread up, and I need one.
I recently got myself an a6300.
And during the holidays I got back to my parents, with our dogs.
I wanted to record some 120fps video and follow them around.
But, the AF didn't manage to keep up.
It was a slight overcast, shot with continuous AF, center focus, f1.4, 800iso.
So it was all properly exposed and bright outside.
I've also noticed a lot of hunting when it shouldn't.
I've turned off face-recognition.
Am I missing something?
>>2995773
i'm lurking /p/ for a couple of months and people keep mentioning someone named isi, can someone explain me who that is?
>>2995773
That is normal for challenging light conditions on mirrorless. The on-sensor AF points are mounted between the actual pixels or uses the actual pixels themselves so they are much less sensitive, especially on higher shutter speed of the 120fps video.
A good option is getting a flash unit with AF assist light working in the IR region so it is not visible by naked eye or use an LED panel for added illumination for video.
>>2995808
fuck off isi youre not fooling anyone you attentionwhore
Hi guys.
Let's post some of our favourite shots we took in 2016 and reflect on how we did.
Also what would you like to achieve in 2017?

2016
- Made a bit of progress with composition in the last couple of months, I feel that I have been shooting slightly differently with the new Leica and I am happy to be seeing a bit of change.
- I went to Norway which in terms of photos was mostly squandered. I did have a nice time but why the fuck do you guys care, this is a photography board. The trip did bag me a load of new insta followers though thanks to Reddit.com/r/travel which I guess is something, even if it felt a bit dirty.
2017
- Develop my ability to take nice photos without having to travel hundreds of miles to find something I can make look good.
- Start a series I've been mentally chewing on for a couple of years now, portraits of religious figures in my local area and the buildings in which they work.
- Have more adventures but try to innovate rather than reproducing the clichéd fucking tourist snaps I usually take

I will post 15 pictures of three slightly different sorts, and after you can tell me which sets works best if you want.
