Canon EOS 5d Mark III.jpg

Imagine you could buy a Canon EOS 5D Mark III for €900, but it had a shutter count of over 450.000 (while still working perfectly). Would you do it?
>>
[_] No.
[x] Fuck no.
>>
would you fuck a girl that was with 100 different guys before you? shes still able to fuck some more. would you?

yeah, i thought so.
>>
>>3002149
Would you care to explain? Replacing the shutter would cost between €200 and €300 and, needless to say, give you a fresh shutter.
>>
>>3002153
Forgot to say it's a studio camera that was serviced anually.
>>
probably

I don't see them going for cheaper than like $1600-1800 so you'd be saving a good amount buying a new shutter
>>
>>3002157
whores get checked for all STDs periodically. would you marry one?
>>
>>3002159
Well, if she was the human equivalent of a 5D, then yes.
>>
>>3002147
900 dollaryioos for an ass-raped 5 year old camera?

How about, - no.

>>
>>3002176
That's it though, nearly perfect exterior condition, no dead pixels. Used mostly for shooting babies. It even comes with the Canon battery grip thingy.
>>
>>3002194
Are you really in need of a FF camera? In a year or so the price will drop considerably because of the mk 4.
>>
>>3002194
>450 000 shots
>of babies
It's probably 45000 shots. You should go buy it either way. Best case, not even half way to rated MTBF. Worst case, the shutter's a ticking time bomb. Either way it's probably going to fail 10 shots in due to Murphy's Law. You'll enjoy it while it lasts, then scrape up the money to repair it and enjoy it for another 450000 shots.
>>
>>3002194
>used mostly for shooting babies

I think this is the clincher anon, the only subject that's easier on a camera is puppies.
>>
>450.000 shots of babies

what the actual fuck.

Fuck no. They move as fuck.
>>
>>3002147
Sounds like a fair deal.

I'd still go and buy a A7 II instead.
>>
>>3002209
>They move as fuck.

What did he mean by this
>>
>>3002147
I actually bought a 5D3 With 8k shutter count w/ 100mm 2.8 L of CL last month for 800 LOL resold it for 2500
>>
>>3002238
Portrait of moving subjects is harder.
>>
>>3002197
Well, technically, nah, but I have been only shooting film up until now, so I do not own a DSLR yet, and investing in crop sensor lenses would feel kinda wrong, as they would become obsolete once I were to upgrade to FF, which I'm quite certain would eventually happen. Then there's my massive collection of film lenses I like to play around with and the joy of knowing I'm shooting FF RIGHT FUCKING NOW. Knowing myself, I will not feel like upgrading for another 5 years. A crop sensor, however, would put me in constant nagging doubt.
>>
>>3002258
Go sony buy an adapter and enjoy old lenses.
>>
>>3002258
How's this for nagging doubts:
A 7 year old full frame camera is getting the exact same ISO performance as current non-Canon APS-C cameras

Good glass will always retain its value. It doesn't matter if it's for EF-S because somebody trying to save a buck on a smaller sensor format will buy it.

Bokeh is a meme; just stand closer.

Electronics are constantly getting outdated.

Muh full frame only exists in your head. It doesn't make the picture; you do.
>>
>>3002276
>Bokeh is a meme; just stand closer.
One of the only reasons people buy FF instead of aps-c
>>
>>3002147
I would do it, replacing the shutter won't cost that much so it'd still be a pretty damn good deal
>>
>>3002147
Canon top-spec DSLRs have about a 50% chance of getting to 1,000,000 actuations. 75% get over the 500,000 mark. Do you think you'll take 50,000 photos with this camera?

If I were you I'd go for it.
>>
>>3002317
After the shutter button being fingered 450k times the shutter isn't the only problem, anon.

I wouldn't pay more than 799 for camera raped like that. Better pay 1,2k for a less fingered body.
>>
>>3002314
If that was actually a thing, people would be buying medium format cameras.
>>
>>3002314
>One of the only reasons
syntax error
>>
I prefer my 5d2 to my d500 for many many things. you can argue about high iso being better but there's also such a thing as good light. is ISO 100 actually better?
>>
>>3002340
Why do you think serious studio work uses MF?
>>
>>3002352
Ultimate resolution, color fidelity and extremely low noise at base ISO.
>>
>>3002149
>>3002153
>>3002159

I would like you faggots to explain why you think a camera like this has been "raped". It is a professional grade camera that is designed to take handling and work in the field. OP has stated that he knows it has been taken care of and appears in good condition. There seems to be no good argument against here, all I see is a cry of the consumerist who thinks they always need new things.
>>
>>3002340
>people would be buying medium format cameras.
They do buy them.
>>
>>3002359
Because 450k times the mirror has moved back and forth, the shutter blades have opened and closed, the button has been pressed and so on.

Do you really think the tech guy would carefully disassemble the body to properly lubricate all the mechanical parts? They just clean the fucking sensor and exterior body thats it.
>>
>>3002375
>Do you really think the tech guy would carefully disassemble the body to properly lubricate all the mechanical parts?

You don't need to. As has been said, these cameras regularly make it past 500,000 clicks, and 1,000,000 isn't unheard of. 450k presses is not that big of a deal, especially if OP is not planning on shooting professionally. I doubt he or she will be taking 50,000 more photos.

And even still, as others have said you can have the shutter replaced for less than the going cost of a used camera with lower shutter counts. This is the main point of failure on the camera. Everything else can be expected to work indefinitely. The shutter button itself is probably rated for several million presses.
>>
>>3002385
Sure it can make it past 500k but will you bet your 900 bucks on it?

I prefer to pay more for a less used camera If I knew to person selling it I would probably pick it.
>>
>>3002385
>450,000 isn't that big of a deal
Except it is in every way that is possible.
They don't 'regularly' make it past 500k, they very rarely make it past 500k. Unless they're going to sign a contract saying that if it fails before 500k they'll refund all the money, then no, it's definitely a big deal and only a fucktard would ever drop any money on a 450,000 shutter camera.
>>
>>3002392
It depends on if I could afford to pay more, or if 900 was my absolute maximum I wanted to pay. In that case I would roll the dice. The odds are in your favor, and you don't get anywhere if life if you never take a chance.
>>
>>3002403
http://www.olegkikin.com/shutterlife/canon_eos5dmkii.htm

The 5D mark II has a 44.5% chance of making it past 1,000,000 actuations. It has a 68.5% chance of failing somewhere between 500,000 and 1,000,000 clicks, weighted towards one million before you get under 50%. The odds are the camera will last up around 850,000 clicks on average.

There is no data on the mark III on this site, but it should offer similar, if not better, performance.
>>
>>3002176
Man Lok went full apeshit.
>>
Should i get a 6d for $900? Isn't there some kind of replacement due out soon? Would hate to buy a 5 year old camera only for its resale value to drop much further.

If it's from press work, no

Sure if the price is right and the camera works fine otherwise. The shutter replacement service isn't that expensive anyways.

Muh camerawaifu :D Gearfags pls.

Sounds like a good deal to me. You'd still be saving money if/when the shutter does go and you end up getting it replaced by Canon. Ignore the haters and idiots on this board.
