What's your favorite subject to take picture of?
Mine is animals and wildlife, as it is an active game of cat and mouse to get a good photo out of them.
Insects are good too with a nice Macro lens.
What is your favorite and why?

I honestly do not have a favorite at all. Don't know whether that's a good or a bad thing; I just find pretty much everything interesting in an even manner.
aurora and fog, because the exposures often surprise you.
you control the scene, but the random light makes it very thrilling.
also the conditions required are rare so you are very motivated to go out when they occur.
>>2998032
Well I think it's important to specialize or have a niche. Having one can give you a way to differentiate yourself from other photography generalists.
Not implying you HAVE to have one though. You do you. Just most people I meet do have one that they try and perfect like landscapers vs portraiture of people etc. Or surfers who shoot almost exclusively waves. There are different little techniques for each a generalist may not know unless they really dive in one direction, just due to spending more time photography that type of subject.
Hey friends! I don't wander onto photography too much.. or ever. I'm a girl, I hope that doesn't work against me. I don't have a lot of friends, surprise.. but this drunk group included me in their picture. It's really bad. Can anyone clean it up? So I look like I have friends and can post it? Or is it too terrible? Thanks
You're the one behind Blondie aren't you?

QUIM PRO QUO
where does /p/ exibit the stuff they do and why?
I feel like instagram is a platform mostly for selfie queens but I still feel like it's a good place to find people to colab with and get outside and shoot some stuff.
this is the most recent idea I've had about my instagram display, and of course it's super edgy because the one big picture is segregated into 9 parts, so when somebody looks it up on a feed, it's like random puzzle pieces.
What I thought about doing is just inserting a link to my work in my instagram bio, so people can go check out the pictures in full resolution and higher quality, but I don't necessarily know where.
Tumblr and blogspot and stuff like that seems.. too bloggy in my opinion.
what platform does /p/ use and why?
does it help with exposing the stuff you do to other people?
how does /p/ feel about flicker?
Help a noobtard out :)
>>2997519
These instas are so annoying to follow. Nobody wants to see three random white posts in their feed and then 9 random ass pieces of some photo that aren't even that interesting to begin with.
Stop using a gimmick to compensate for not having anything worthwhile to share. In the same space it took you to show three mediocre photos I could've shown 33. Nobody wants to visit your website to see full-res versions when we already have to go to your full profile just to see them cut into pieces.
Abort.
>>2997537
well that was a bit rough, but i get what you mean.
no input on the other platform?
>>2997519
Instagram is utter shit, it punishes you if you have a shit smartphone, (I have a 1st gen Moto G), and it's such a terrible UI. The computer version of the app is equally shit and I stopped using it within a day.
>Tumblr
I used Tumblr but I wanted it as a photoblog for my friends. Ironically one photo got quite popular and a bunch of strangers started to follow me and read my person stuff intended for my friends. Also it doesn't have the friendlies UI when it comes to photos, although it looks quite good.
I finally got Flickr and it's perfect. Not bloggy, but a very nice photo layout that scaled great with screens. The networking features are good and the app is great. They do try to shill their 3rd party services hard though but whatever. It's a great photo delivery platform.
Canon, Nikon, Sony?
Maybe something else?
And why?
Let's the battle begin

What is the best selfie stick a human can buy?
>>2996867
a real one.
what do you mean by
>the best selfie stick
it's a fucking stick
you put your phone on it
don't buy a cheap one becouse it will break, dropping your expensive phone on the floor
That one with a loaded gun in the place of the phone.
Best MF film setup (body + lens) for portraiture? Must be off cam flash/strobe compatible.

do any of you print your images at home?
I'm thinking about buying an injet printer
also do any of you own the Pixma pro 100?
apparently you can get it for free using some sort of mail-in rebate.
>>2996423
my understanding of those printers is that they produce lower quality photos than labs at a higher price
>>2996423
i get stunning prints in top grade paper from a minilab nearby that has very cheap prices. cant top that.
for zines i go to a printing house, they have ridiculously cheap prices. $1 for a 40 page zine (i do the binding, of course). cant top that either.
Havent been on /p/ in a while, just got back from puerto rico. Ill drop some photos I took, tell me if you like them or not.

Any of you guys own a spot meter? I'm looking to buy one. So I can do large format landscapes.
Also: why does the Pentax VI cost so much?
how about you get a tiny camera like pentax Q
put a long lense on it and use it as a spot?
i do have a lightmeter but it's only pertinent for flash
>>2995981
This, or just do like Alex and get an old MFT with kit zoom lens, cheap and versatile, you can meter for the subjects and the surroundings.
I use a sekonic 558. Gives accurate decimal readings.
Is VSCO overrated? Both on PC and Andoid/iOS? I'm not talking about pricing but presets itself. It's a bad example, I guess, but here's my picture with X1 preset.
Is it even okay to use presets in your opinion? Or everything should be done by your hand?
You can find better stuff here: vsco.co/explore/vsco/collection/0

>Is VSCO overrated
In what regard?
>I'm not talking about pricing but presets itself. It's a bad example, I guess, but here's my picture with X1 preset.
That is a bad example.
>Is it even okay to use presets in your opinion?
No.
>Or everything should be done by your hand?
Yes, every processing option should be chosen by you individually for each frame
>You can find better stuff here: vsco.co/explore/vsco/collection/0
No.
Their LR/ACR presets are fine, they do what they need to and the profiles are well done. If you're shooting with the intent of processing it that way, then there's really nothing wrong with using it, just make sure to adjust the sharpening/grain afterwards.
>>2995886
>Is VSCO overrated?
its popular. popular stuff tend to be a bottom of the barrel performance+great marketing deal.
>>2995886
I find they work better as quick palette options, rather than relying on them as full film sims.
Pic related; I chose a vsco preset that gave me the reds and greens that I wanted, then tweaked from there.

Anything about lenses, cameras, mounts, systems, buying, pricing, selling, etc. GOES IN HERE!
Do not open new threads for gear-related issues.
No pointless (brand) arguments and dickwaving allowed! You have been warned! Just questions, answers and advice.
And don't forget, be polite.
Right as I posted my reply, there's a new thread. Anyway
I'm gonna buy the Canon EF-S 24mm f2.8 (the pancake)
It has a 52mm filter thread, but the front element is tiny. I was thinking I could get a step up ring, and get tiny filters (to lower the cost).
How small can I go? Are 40mm filters gonna vignet?
Does anyone have the lens, that could try measuring out how small I can go?
>>2995064
The general idea is to buy a filter for your largest lens and then buy step up rings for that, not the other way round. Say you're largest lens thread is 67mm and all your other lenses are 52mm, you'd buy a 67mm filter and then a 52-67mm step up ring.
>>2995064
This is a bad idea and will result in you losing a lot of money. Listen to what >>2995071 is saying or you could also buy a filter system like Cokin makes where you just buy the adapter rings for whatever filter thread your lenses use and then all the filters can be used interchangeably. Cokin uses the square glass filters if you weren't familiar. They can be had for pretty cheap now on eBay since they were really popular in the film days. Good quality– made in France as well
