Hey /p/
Currently a Mechanical Engineering student
I don't care about M.E. but it has good salary. Photography is more fun to me. Should I switch to photography major or nah?
I'm thinking nah because what the hell do you even learn in photography class that you can't learn online
Image is a recent picture I took with some color and tone edits

I own a rug shop which has about 4000 rugs. How much would it cost to get these professionally photographed so that I can sell them online?
Can I do it myself being a complete novice?
How do you shoot a rug? Show us an example? Also it depends on the number of pics for each one.
Also 4000 is a lot and it's probably gonna take a lot of time, thus money for a photographer. If it's not something really complicated you can always find a young enthusiast and pay him less.
If you can figure out a good workflow, it shouldn't be too hard to do it yourself efficiently. At 4000 rugs you're looking for efficiency than archival-grade quality. The best thing you can do is find a good system to shoot and process ~100 rugs/photos a day, and make sure you have the storage for the photos too.
>>2994415
As the other anons said, at 4k rugs you are looking for price efficiency. Online product photography is very forgiving of gear. A 400$ DSLR kit and maybe a cheap-ass tripod are all you'll need to do it yourself
The real question is how do you shoot a rug product photo?
Hi people, do you think its worth upgrading to a 6D or waiting and paying more for a 6D mkII when its out?
Currently have a 70D and do a lot of landscape stuff so i'm not too fussed about the 6D not having many AF points!
also the pic isn't mine, I just think its incredible
>>2994277
The 6D won't be such a big upgrade from the 70D as you think.
Switching systems for FF would be much more so, even staying crop on another system like Nikon or Pentax would give you more of an upgrade than the 6D.
>>2994284
>
the canon 6D is full frame and would be a reasonable upgrade from a 70D.
Buy a 2nd hand 6D instead of a 6D II and spend the difference on a nice lens.

Go to the store, but a disposable film camera. Open your photo in photoshop, snap a photo of the screen (flash off of course) and it should turn out grainy

People like to put them all over images that I doubt had the ratio in mind, so I dunno.
>>2993707
ok look its the reddit spiral again.
only dumb normies and the Tool fanbase fall for that bullshit.
>>2993710
That's how I've always seen it too. I doubt 90% of people who 'use it' actually set out to use it, but instead crop their images to fit the meme spiral
Has /p/ ever broken a camera or lens? I slipped over while shooting a storm just tonight and managed to jam my battery cover closed. No major damage, but I'm interested in what you guys have done.

My ricoh gr broke itself for 2 months and then magically fixed itself
I've fucked up a lot of filter thread rings on my lenses because I'm not careful with my cameras at all. Not a huge problem since I don't shoot with filters ever
>>2993525
Last year I was taking a pic of the moon with my then recently purchased 100-400mm L lens, and one of the fasteners broke on my tripod sending the thing falling front element first onto asphalt. Nearly had a fucking heart attack. Luckily the only damage was a few scratches to the front ring. Moral of the story is use that damn lens hood and don't use a cheap tripod.
>>2993525
My old Pentacks K100D went through some shit back in the day. I remember photographing a snake at the top of a 2 meter cascade, it crossed the stream along the edge of the cascade and I stupidly followed. I slipped down the cascade and smashed my camera into some rocks and got it covered in water. A Smashed UV filter saved the lens from any damage and after removing and replacing the batteries then turning it off and on again the camera was fine.
Couple months later it dropped into the sand and water at the beach while I was on holiday. It was pretty fucked after that and I was pissed because in a couple days we were going to see a volcano. Over the next couple days it was still fucked, up until the day we visit this volcano and the camera has fixed itself completely
Any of you guys bring your cameras with you everywhere you go?
What do you do/say to people who ask you why the fuck you carry your camera everywhere

Not really - if I need a quick shot I'll just use my phone and if it's something where I go "holy shit that would me make a great photo" I'll just come back.
