Does /out/ climb?
Post cool climbing pictures, videos, favorite spots around your state, etc.
I'm just getting into it myself. My buddy and I went to a little known local spot yesterday, and we're going to Horseshoe Canyon in Arkansas next weekend.
it looks like i've miraculously managed to squeeze in a climbing trip to the sierra to finally get up this beautiful chunk of rock in a couple weeks.
I'm just getting into climbing - I'm in good shape but I still have shit endurance - not quite sure what level I'm at yet but hopefully it'll get better.
Watched this video yesterday - feels good to know that even world class climbers can struggle a lot.

It's fun shit and I highly recommend doing it. Just don't let the culture consume you and don't be a gumby. And remember shirts are aid
Feel free to post tobaccos (no weed allowed), pipes, collections, pics of favorite combos for going /out/, pics of what you're doing with your pipe and any questions you might have.
Want to get into smoking pipes without spending too much cash?
Get a Missouri Meerschaum Legend corncob pipe and a pouch of either Prince Albert, Carter Hall or Half and Half tobacco, available at most drugstores.
What you'll need: pipe, tobacco, lighter or matches, pipe cleaners, and either a regular old nail or a pipe tool (combination tamper, scoop, and small pick).
All of these together should run you less than $20.
Having trouble keeping your pipe lit? Fill it with less tobacco and smoke it slower than you think you need to, lightly tamping as needed when the smoke starts thinning out.
If you're still having trouble, try filling your pipe this way:

Suffered a cob-tastrophe a few weeks back when my regular cob fell out of my pocket while walking through a field of tall grass to go fishing. An hour of searching later, I called it and spent $7 on this one.
It's not as good as the older one was yet, but it's getting there.

Rip old cob
Had a great hike up to Pyramid Lake and Ball Lakes here in the Selkirks today with my doggo. I had some Frog Morton in my Wessex and kicked back for a bit before scrambling some of the Boulder fields. Didn't stay terribly long since I wanted to hit the hardware store on my way home for fence posts. Overall a good day, first real hike of the year for me.

I was just in Maryland a few weeks back and that stuff was everywhere. Tried it once, not too shabby. Mostly drank dark beers that trip though.

Looks like they pulled their data from REI shoppers per square mile. Here is the actual map.
>>1076912
Good find, OP. The map is logical and the premise is solid.
>>1076940
the only glaring error here is montana and cali being 8 instead of 10.

can someone tell me of a good rod+reel for $150-200 mostly for pulling in sharks/rays/general big inshore fish?
got into a fight with a very good sized red, couldn't get him anywhere near the railing and seriously thought my old 6'6 garcia was going to break in half.

After buying my first headlamp, I rarely use an actual flashlight /out/doors anymore. Some $30 or $40 Princeton Tec one. Was kinda an impulse buy but I'm very happy I bought it. Has white and red, high and low and I'm still on my first set of 3x AAA batteries over a year into owning it and using it maybe a couple hrs every month fishing in the dark.
Makes me want to buy 2 or 3 more so I can have one in the car and another in the garage.
Actual flashlight I have one of the 2x AA Maglite Pro LED things and it works but I hate the on-off mechanism. I'd rather have a button because sometimes it gets twisted in the tackle bag and turns on itself.

one asain friend who plays more survival games then me but has never camped
Hi, /out/.
This September, I’m road tripping from Minneapolis to the Gorge Amphitheater in Washington State. Along the way, I’d like to take some time to enjoy some magnificent scenery in Montana, and possibly Idaho.
I’ll be renting a car in Mpls, and dropping it off in Seattle after the music thing. From there, I’m flying home. I may or may not bring camping gear, depending on what I decide and possibly, the advice I get here. If I don’t bring camping gear, I’ll just shell out for lodges and what not.
So, where would you stop. Would I be a fool to camp, or a fool to not camp? Specific hotels/motels/lodges/campgrounds that are not to be missed? If you have educated opinions, please sound off! Thank you.
P.S.
As for time, I can hit the road as early as Saturday, September 9th. I have to be at the gorge on the Saturday the 16th for the event and am flying home on Monday, the 18th.
Apologies for the lengthy post.
I live in Sandpoint, will you be through here? What /out/ will you be equipped for? There is a full years worth of quality hiking in the Selkirks alone, plus the Cabinets, not to mention MTB, climbing, etc.
Recommended day hikes near Sandpoint:
>Scotchmans Peak
>Pend Oreille Divide Trail or any lake near it
>Harrison Lake
>Pyramid and Ball Lakes (Lotta driving to get there)
>Roman Nose lakes
I'd say 'in that order', for the most part.
As for camping, take any USFS road and just camp. From Sandpoint head north on 95 and then on to Upper Pack River, or from Clark Fork find Trestle Creek Rd off Highway 200. Drive WAY the fuck up either of those and you're golden. Like 15 or 20 miles I'm talking.
What else ya in to? How many days ya got? Priest Lake adds a whole host of options but it's kind of a drive just to get up to that area and then still more remote to drive the USFS and IDL roads to get to trails.
Pic is from the trail to Pyramid Lake, this is literally only a day hike to have this remoteness and mid week you would almost exclusively have this shit to your self.

If you're going through southern idaho, consider Craters of The Moon. It's pretty unique. I haven't done much in Montana frankly, but there are two hot springs resorts that aren't awfully expensive and are worth staying at: Jackson Hot Springs and Quinns. Check em out for lodging.
>>1074280
>I live in Sandpoint, will you be through here?
Actually, yes. I'd like to visit Glacier National Park, and head to the Gorge Amphitheater from them. It looks like Sandpoint is on the way.
What else ya in to?
Nature and nightlife. My nightlife fix will be met at my final destination.
How many days ya got?
I plan on leaving Minneapolis on 9/9. I have to get to the gorge early on 9/16. Thanks for the hiking recommendations. Not going to bother bringing a bike as I'm flying back.
>>1074282
Probably not going to hit southern Idaho, but if my plans change, Ill check it out. And I'll definitely look into the resorts you recommended. Thank you.
DIY Solid fuel tablets that cost nothing and work better.
Made these last night. Burn high heat for about 15 min. 3 cups of water boiled.

All the parafin wax I can buy in the UK without a licence is for beauty products, is this the same thing ??
>>1073508
I've been doing this for years, but there's no justification for your making a thread (and thereby killing another thread) just to blatantly shill a third party site. You could have at least perused the fucking catalog and put your post in the prepping thread. Faggot. Do the world a favor: go surround yourself with a few hundred of these diy fuel tabs, light them, and die in a fire.
>>1073532
Did you wake up on the wrong side of the tent, love?
Does anyone else on /out/ enjoy making these? I've made a lot of them and it's a lot of fun.
These things are great!

I love corns. There's nothing more satisfying than leaving you're mark after a tough hike. Like saying to the world "I was here! I did it!"
This thread is bad. You should be ashamed.
Is the tweezers in a Victorinox Classic adequate for removing ticks, or should I pack something else for this task? I have absolutely no experience.
>>1071066
Burn them off with a stick from the fire.
>>1071066
AFAIK those are not recommended. With those you cannot easily pull the tick out. You probably can manage after some practise but there are better tools.
>living in tick hotzone
>>1071067
>make the tick violently expel all the contents of its stomach back into your blood stream.
What are you doing for the eclipse?
I'm taking the day off. I'm only 5 hour drive away, I'm gonna head out Sunday, and camp the night in the boonies.
I have 2 back up spots in case of bad weather.
What else should I know? How do I best avoid clouds? How do I know if I should drive west, or east to avoid cloud cover if there is any?
>>1067306
I put on an angel costume, ride a hose and blow a trumpet when people are near me.

I'm working, in the part of the building that has no Windows. Might try to get the day off.

I'l driver 45 minutes to a college town in the path, and then drink beer afterwards.
What kind of music do you like to listen to when you go /out/? Or if the sounds of the wind and the birds are more your thing, what kind of music inspires you to go /out/ in the first place?
First thing that comes to mind for me is the Fleet Foxes s/t, it always gives me that itch to get out of the house and do something.
>>1064741
I listen to John Coltrane when I'm innawoods, mostly. Aside from that it's either Johnny Cash, David Allan Coe, Yoshida Brothers, or Yoko Kanno depending on mood.

That auction place looks like a coliseum.
What if someone was giving 23 bottles of 40oz alky drank to the first homeless person that fights a horny tiger in unarmed combat and wins. People can form teams up to six and fight simultaneously.
Would anyone be interested in participating? Hypothetically of course.
I've also thought I stay in a storage unit in secret if I became homeless.
Is anyone else in a semi secure place in their lives, but slowly feels homelessness creeping up on them? I feel like I'm three bad months away from taking a greyhound south, to panhandle and eat trash.
You're deep in a cave when your headlight dies and you realize that your spare batteries fell out of your pack and the sharp squeeze spot split your glowsticks. What do you do?
Nothing because I never go deep into caves for this very reason. Worst way to die, other than maybe drowning.
