Any fly fisher here?
I recently got spinning rod, and I again hook up on fishing (after many years). So, I buy few wobbler lures (Ugly ducklings and copy of mepps). After reading some fishing forums, I begin to read stuff about fly fishing and it's pretty awsome fishing style, so I decide to any time soon start with buying equipments. I will probably buy Scierra Memento #4 9' rod, Okuma Airframe reel (it's not that important on class 4 rod), maybe Byron line and some stuff for fly making. If anybody have expirience with Memento rod, I would like to hear it and feel free guys to discusse fly fishing in general.
Cheers!

Been fly fishing 10 years or so. I'd highly recommend going through the Orvis video lessons before buying anything. It doesn't matter what brand components make up your set-up, what does matter a LOT is having the right combination and type and size of everything for the fish and the flies you plan on using.

http://howtoflyfish.orvis.com/video-lessons

Also, a great way to start fly fishing is a pond or small lake for panfish like bluegills. Everyone thinks they should be in a river with waders fishing for trout, but this is probably the worst way.

I need a new Jacket. The inner layer is flaking off. I theory it could still be worn but who wants those flakes everywhere afterwards?

If I could I'd like the same Jacket again but it was a super cheap "Trekking Jacket" from a german discounter. I can't even read the label. Maybe "B-yonic Wear"? I simply bought it that time because I needed something for the rain but I never expected it to be such a good buy. This Jacket is 11 Years old, I'll forgive the flaking as those 14.95 Euro have been one of my best buys ever.

The Problem, I find it rather difficult to find something similar for that price. I need a few pockets, and a inner mesh would be nice. Europe plz.

Sup /out/. Accomplished bass fisherman from the Ozarks here. Coming up here in late October I'll be in Panama City, FL for a few days. Would like to see if I can catch anything from the beach right in the surf. I learned from a handful of videos that it's possible to get pompano and whiting this way. I need to know if I can do it with the following equipment, and if it's even worth the trouble.
>7ft. takedown spinning rod, M action
>Shimano Spirex reel with 10lb mono
>various light bass tackle I sometimes use - lipless cranks, small jerkbaits, inline spinners, soft plastics, ect

I use baitcasters with larger tackle 99% of the time and was thinking this would be a good opportunity to use my light tackle and potentially catch something I've never seen before. The whole point is that this gear will fit into regular airline luggage. Taking my good baitcasting rigs isn't an option. Is it worth the trouble? Is fishing that area in late October even good?

the rod and reel will work just leave those lures at home. bring along some leader line. pick up some pompano jigs when youre there, bring a few kastmasters, some smaller bait hooks, swivels and your worm weights.
use sandfleas-sandcrabs-shrimp for bait, texas rigged. a few short wire leaders will help if oothy fish are around. you'll have a blast fishing there.
i would bring some small curl tail grubs too to fish texas rigged

Sweet! I already have all of that stuff except for pompano jigs, and after an image search those appear to be nothing more than a basic bitch bucktail jig. Do you fish it like you would a bass jig or a Texas rig - bounced or walked off the bottom?
>Texas rigged grub
Was surprised to see this. If they take these, would they hit the creature/paddletail baits I already have? Or are you talking smaller grubs, like crappie fishermen use?
Thanks for your advice so far, I'm a total surf-fishing noob.

Does this lake exist? I'd like to think I know of the outdoorsy stuff around me, and was looking up "lists of lakes in California" on Wikipedia, and this showed up:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baker_Lake_(California)

This government geological website confirms its existence:

https://geonames.usgs.gov/apex/f?p=gnispq:3:0::NO::P3_FID:256446

But looking at Google Maps, it doesn't show any sort of blue or anything.

What the fuck is going on? Can't even seen to find any other pictures of it. There's a Baker Lake in Washington, so anything with Baker Lake points to that and adding in Shasta, since it's in Shasta County just brings up Shasta Lake, not this mysterious "Baker Lake" that I've never even once heard mentioned. It is a bit ways off the main road, but you'd think there would be more on it.

Sometimes the smaller ones don't show up on the standard map, switch to satellite image to see what the actual levels are during the summer.

I'm here on vacation and I just have one question. Can we ban the Chinese from all national parks? They travel in huge hoards, don't follow any rules and are barely aware of their surroundings. Half the business are in Chinese and they just stand in the fucking way all day. I hate them so fucking much.

Sup /out/, I have been spending the past few years of my life much more involved in nature and plants and I'm currently in college on my path toward a career in botany or some sort of plant science related field. I have been taking pictures of many of the local plants and fungi over the years, but do not know the names of many of them, So how about a plant identification thread? Everyone is welcome to post their own as well.

All of these plants are located In West Virginia, near Kentucky.

I've had a pair of Inov-8 Roclite 295's for a couple of months now. Just recently I noticed that the outsole is comming loose on the left shoe. And in the middle too. I could probably warranty them, but I'd rather just fix them myself. Anyone got any tips on products for this, and how I should go about doing it? I've heard of ShoeGoo, but is it any good?

You do realize that if you try to fix then yourself and fail that it will likely void the warranty, right?

Just send them in, my man.

Hey /out/, im pretty new to camping and im trying to get into it more. I want to go on my first solo camping trip soon, but i have some questions.

First off, i dont want to use an actual campsite, id rather just walk into the woods somewhere and set up camp. The only problem is, all the decent woods around me are either privately owned, or is state park/wildlife refuge.
So my question is; can i just walk into a state park or whatever and camp whereever i want? Do i have to actually reserve a campsite?

I feel like i might be overthinking this, so sorry if im retarded

We need to know which state. The laws vary.
>>
>>1072803
Kansas/Missouri
>>
>>1072801
OP, you'll need to check the rules at any specific state park you want to camp in. There's a 99% chance they make people stay in designated campsites and probably reserve/pay for them too. What you're looking for is a national forest. Assuming you're in KC, you're going to have to do some driving because the only national forest near you is Mark Twain. The good news is you can do what's called "dispersed camping" and most of the forest is fair game, for free. Call the park ranger office and ask them for specifics about dispersed camping there.
You can also camp on private land if you get permission from the owner. Your best bet would be to tell them you're an aspiring nature photographer or something and won't do any hunting/fishing/destructive activities on their land. Don't expect many people to say yes to your requests.
Here's a decent guide to state park camping for Missouri. It sounds like utter fucking hell and you'd be better off not even going.

Just bought my first house and I am a clueless fuck when it comes to plants. There are a ton of different shrubs, flowers, grass, vines, etc. in my front and back yard and I literally can't identify a single thing except a tree that I think is an oak tree.

What is the best way to get rolling on identifying this stuff? I figure if I know what each thing is I can research info on how often to water and so forth. I don't want everything to die.

North Texas btw.

It's probably shitty Saint Augustine or Bermuda Grass. Saint Augustine in particular is a water guzzler and Bermuda is invasive as fuck. Kill it and plant something native. Tell your HoA to go fuck itself if need be.

As for plant ID, learn the major family characteristics and then work down from there.

Try this for some better plants to put in your garden:

>>
>>1072594

Thanks for the advice. I definitely as a long-term goal want to further reduce the water-intensive plants around here. In the meantime I also want to keep what's already here from dying in case it turns out to be good

Just letting you know we have mycologists over in /an/ that can help you out with fungi identification. /fungi/ generals are the new best place for it. You are probably going to have the most luck with North American specimens.

Search the catalog.
